without a doubt, the most powerful and enduring voices since the 80's. thank you laura for sharing ur gift with us...no question that u r now singing to a multitude of angels in heaven. R.I.P.
Laura was a sweet, generous and warm-hearted soul. She worked as a waitress and took many hours of voice lessons to give us the "gems" that we now enjoy. We miss'ya Darlin' (sooo very much). Enjoy the Peace and Joy in Heaven dear Laura.
Laura Branigan MADE this song hers! Even though Jennifer Rush wrote it, Air Supply and Celine Dion covered it, Laura put her heart, soul, and passion in her version - one of her best songs!
A wonderful version of this song. Mind boggling how great this lady could be today. Let your mind wander and visualize this power singer teamed with Daughtry of today. I can visualize a most powerful rendition of several songs. But alas, this can never happen and it is our loss. A treasure lost.
@Elly3981 Yes, it is sad Laura was taken so soon, I am now the same age she was, and I still have lots of life left in me! Laura sure did also, right up until the end. It really is a shame from a musical perspective, as Laura was getting ready to release a new album, and I personally think she had lots more left where that came from. Listen to "I know you by heart" Laura sure grabs your heart with that song!
Music of the Heart that is birthed there, has light that touches, maybe make a call, go make amends .Be a bit kinder and pass on the glimmer of light at least for a hour maeby a day. Beautiful, never geet tired of the song. She keft a legacy that won't go out for a long time. Jimmy (Viet-nam vet) heart music made a big impact to live,Peace and kindmess to each one, that might read this,JimmyS,
¿ de quièn es la versiòn original? Jennifer Rush o Laura Branigan? ambas tienen exelente voz y las interpretaciones son maravillosas pero me gustarìa saber de quièn es original...
Celine does a wooden version, though probably capable of better. Jenn Rush is professional with it, but Laura knocked it waaay over the fence. She wears this song and brings it to full life! RIP...
Looks like there a few of you that like trash talking Laura :( That is a BAD idea, us dudes in Branigan's Brigade are NOT ammused. I don't suppose you would like to share Where you live with us would you? I just got my HemiCharger out of winter storage, and I am looking for a paved driveway or 2 to demonstrate it's pavement melting abilities on. It looks to me like a couple of you have volunteered for a demonstration, Totally Free of Charge!!! Laura Totally ROCKS :-)
@rphillips111 I like it better myself, but Celine has a pretty fantastic voice. Honestly I think all the women I have ever heard do this song have done an amazing job, but this is my favorite.
This is good this was proabably a very popular version however, i feel MY OPINION I like this but I perfer Celines version because it has much more power and higher powerful notes
@DENo1MatchGameFan PLEASE DONT CUT HER SHORT ON THIS. THIS SONG HAS ALSO CROSSED OVER INTO THE LATIN AREA BECAUSE THAT IS WHEN I HEARD IT FIRST AND IT WAS FROM Yolandita Monge "TU ERES ME HOMBRE Y YO TU MUJER"....
@jxxxjppp Are you kidding me.....that was her voice...it was powerful and raw....your ears and mine must not of heard the same thing....she was totally awesome here....
I've said it before but this song is not an operaetta or an anthem, it is a torch song. Celine's interpretation is wayyyyyyyyy off. Jennifer Rush hit the mark perfectly. I had not heard Laura's version before, she hit this one right on the nail. Sheer brilliance but what else have we come to expect. Taken from us wayyyy too soon.
sorry, but this song is only predestinated to jennifer rush...you can´t compare laura branigan with jennifer rush, cause the dimension in the quality of singers are enormously...in spite of....good vibrations
Jesus mate, every ones entitled to an opinion, just becasue it dosnt co-inside with yours doesnt make it wrong! Besides I would have to agree Celine's vocal control with this song is better, and her voice more suited to it. When people talk of this song, two main singers come to light, Celine and Jenny Rush! Not Laura. Thats not dispesion on her either, I love just about every thing Laura did, I recon she was a great tallent and sadley missed, but opinions will vary and thats mine!
I prefer the Jennifer Rush original, but Lauras is a very close 2nd. Celines version is far too 'jazzy', the speed in it has went to hell and the instrumentation is all wrong. It would have been interesting to hear Laura and Jennifer do this as a duet.
Jennifer Rush didnt write it - she contributed to it - which is not the same thing. It was jointly written by her, Gunther Mende, Candy DeRouge, Mary Susan Applegate. What lets down this version is the appalling arrangement which almost kills the song. If Laura had had a much better arrangement she would have done a lot better with it but she is straining her voice at times (specially towards the end)
@rphillips111 She's a better singer for sure. Jennifer Rush's version is still the best though. Laura's voice is great but its a bit too flinty for this song.
I like laura branigan, and she had a good voice, but she must have wrecked it towards the end of her career, because at the end this song is all dry screaming. It sounds awful, and those notes aren't high, for a woman. Some people might say it sounds "raw" and "emotional" but all i can hear is how badly her voice is damaged.Either she had to rely on studio trickery,or she wrecked her range and voice in the later 80s..i think its the latter, because she was amazing.
NEVER. Celine cant ever come even close to the talent laura had.
laura x todas tus canciones gracias y espero q seas parte del coro celestial
grande Laura no muere esa voz nunca!!!!
I love you
without a doubt, the most powerful and enduring voices since the 80's. thank you laura for sharing ur gift with us...no question that u r now singing to a multitude of angels in heaven. R.I.P.
what a voice, what a tragic loss. thank you for this.
RIP Laura, you were one of the very best! You are always in our hearts.
my eyes are crying every time when i hear this song, power of love is forever..thx..laura love you....
Laura was a sweet, generous and warm-hearted soul. She worked as a waitress and took many hours of voice lessons to give us the "gems" that we now enjoy. We miss'ya Darlin' (sooo very much). Enjoy the Peace and Joy in Heaven dear Laura.
She's the best..

I just found a cd of her greatest hits, and she has a version of show me heaven on it that is just too much. She was indeed the real deal.
this is such a powerful song..puts tears in my eyes every time I hear this song. What a voice she has.
A wonderful version of this song. Mind boggling how great this lady could be today. Let your mind wander and visualize this power singer teamed with Daughtry of today. I can visualize a most powerful rendition of several songs. But alas, this can never happen and it is our loss. A treasure lost.
its sad that branigan passed but she will never be forgotten.
I think Laura, Jenny, and Celine all sing this song beautifully in their own way.
Great voice! Great Song. RIP Laura
She could belt out The Power of Love like NOBODY else
she did it the best - no one else can touch her. rest in peace - you are dearly missed
Great Song and She sang with her feel. RIP our beloved Laura
reminds me of my naughty teen years! I wish laura is still around & making music she has a great beautiful voice.
I never knew that this song was hers...all this while i thought it was Celine Dion.....well done Laura....excellent master piece:)
Actually they both covered the original by Jennifer Rush (released 1984)
such a beautiful lady. RIP Laura
i remember always laura...😢😢😢😢
Such an original, character filled, distinct voice.
good voice she is...she could have been the next lady of my life, but she got rest untimely...
a song made for her incredible voice ,forever yours laura
speechless!
Effortless control over such power, perfect pitch, sexual charisma.... what a talent. Glen
Such a shame to have her gone so many covered her songs. She is an angel.
laura branigan is the best
she does it the best and she is the best looking.
lovely :o) i love it
she does it the best
The best unbeatable

The days before singers screamed "look at me" with their voices.

Laura Branigan's version of Power of Love is the best, and leaves Celine Dion way behind.
Mouskouri66, great comment.
I too love her version, but Celine isn't a downer either. Can't compare the 2. Love them both.
I love Laura Branigan...wish we could still hook up.
I knew Celine wasn't the original singer!
Looks like there a few of you that like trash talking Laura :(

Agreed.
Is that presenter Nia Peeples...?
Epic
I didn't know Laura sang this before Celine. Just another Celine cover.
@SCHATZ2822
it was written and performed by jennifer rush first
Jennifer ......?
The only problem with this song, is that it was covered by other artists/groups in addition to Laura Branigan(RIP).
@Michaelwolf1000 She didn't...Celine covered Laura's version. LOL
what show was this ???
This is good this was proabably a very popular version however, i feel MY OPINION I like this but I perfer Celines version because it has much more power and higher powerful notes

No, the original is Jennifer Rush's
blondemandy,
Peculiar that your reply to my comment does not display as such. -- Sis
I had no Idea Laura did this song originally. Stupid me.
Sorry Celine this better version
wierd, but i like her version than original
FOOTLOOSE REPEAT
sorry, but this song is only predestinated to jennifer rush...you can´t compare laura branigan with jennifer rush, cause the dimension in the quality of singers are enormously...in spite of....good vibrations

But NOT,IMHO, Eva Cassidy whose very short singing career was also cut short.

Hey dDWIGgyWAM
If Laura truly was your mother, then in the video SELF CONTROL...there was someone with a white mask on, what was the purpose for that?
I prefer the Jennifer Rush original, but Lauras is a very close 2nd. Celines version is far too 'jazzy', the speed in it has went to hell and the instrumentation is all wrong.

Celine Dion has greater "rendition" of this song. -- Sis

Why the dislikes? Ugh, stupid jealous people.
I heard she died of a brain tumor; its sad because she was still pretty young.

Damn that 80s hair was awful.
Celine Dion has no sound. Its terrible. Laura was the best it's true. I heared this song by Celine. Terrible. never again. :)
Are you fucking kidding ? LOL
