the idea of safty in the late 50s was, that if you have in safty position, you can feel it, and if you selecting the fireposition, you dont have finger on trigger.
That is do to the ATF. They have preferred methods to permanently attach the muzzle to the barrel. While there are a couple different ways to permanently attach it, like your soldering suggestion. ATF doesn’t think that is permanent enough for their liking and wants it to be pinned and welded.
I suppose you could somehow revers the selector switch, but it looks like it would interfere with the scope mount rail if you decided to install one. I also started with the VZ2008…really enjoyed it, but decided to upgrade to the higher-quality CSA VZ58.
Yeah I got another safety selector and I’m going to try to modify it and see if it is doable. The best thing about my vz2008 was the price! Every time someone mentions the VZ platform I always mentally kick myself for selling it.
The SA-58 is a weapon so simple and looks like a toy that you have a hard time thinking that it can't hurt you. But it is destructive, very destructive.
the reason that everything is on the right side is so it can be slung on their back and the left, smooth side of the gun is against their back, more comfortable to carry without shit stabbing you in the back. It was one of the requirements by the Czech gov't when the rifle was made. The folding stock also would fold to the right side for the same reason.
Yeah, they made a mistake on that decision. Imagine deciding to make your weapon less efficient in battle just so you could carry it on your back slightly more comfortably. That’s insane
The fire safety selector is on the correct side. Also the charging handle. It is built for right handed people so they can put the gun on the ground or mainly carry it on their back without having anything sticking out to scratch their back. Imagine you carry it the whole day on your back. The left side of the gun is intentionally made flat, clean and compact.
This rifle only came with polymer. I did have a couple failures to feed that I think was a magazine problem but I need to test that theory a little more. When I had the Vz 2008 several years back, I had the surplus magazines and I can’t ever remember having a malfunction with them. I am planning on getting some of the surplus magazines soon to compare them.
It does, did I not mention that in this video? You can also upgrade it The upgrades you need on your VZ58: bolt and magazine release ruclips.net/video/c_EtOX7DtO0/видео.html
3rd. Trigger? When I compare it to G36, MP5, AUG I serve with its excellent! It leads you a bit. Then you hit the wall, then crisp and boom. Look at 9 holereview. But... I must say I never had CSA in hand. I have 3 CZ Uherský Brod originals at home. First I got when I was 13 and Im 30 now.
The one in mine is descent for a military trigger but compared to all my other rifles, it’s at the very bottom. I don’t have any experience with the G36 and it’s been about 10years since I had a MP5 in my hands so I can’t remember what it was like but I definitely can agree that the VZ is better then the AUG.
difference between CSA and the original UB triggers is like night and day, the original has a lot of creep and loong travel to get there where CSA trigger is lighter has zero creep, light pretravel and breaks cleanly. the closest thing i can compare it to is like my CZ Shadow 2 in single action - yknow a competition special handgun ...
It is limited compared to the AR15 and AK platforms but it does have some pretty good options still. You can check out some of the upgrades we are doing with it on rumble rumble.com/v2dxs5g-vz58-1913-stock-adapter-with-jmac-folding-stock.html
The safety switch thing is a question of doctrine. You hold the rifle on the fore-grip with you left hand and operate the bolt with your right hand (like on a bolt action). As you put your hand on the grip from the right side you flip the switch by pushing it forward for full auto and backward for semi with your index finger. Many of you are just too used to do it with your other hands so this seem awkward. It makes more sense to operate the bolt with your right hand since it is more natural motion pull two points apart than push them together when there is resistance. The rifle has it right, it is just that people are operating them in a way they were not designed to.
The 48 (type 1) design was stamped but they couldn’t get it to work during the production phase. So in the 49 design they switched to the milled (type 2), then when they were able to get all the kinks out, they then started to mass produce with the stamped design as the AKM. There is one more milled version (type 3) before they were able to get back to the stamped AKM (type 4). If we want the original AK then I believe it would be the AK46 which is much different than what we are talking about. So I see the milled design as the original mass produced AK that was used by the Russian military.
Nice video, BUT you've got part of your history wrong. AKs were _always_ meant to be built with a stamped sheet metal receiver. After kicking off mass production of the first few series of AK-47s in the late 1940s, the Soviets noticed severe issues with design and build quality, leaving them no choice but to "temporarily" (about 10 years, until the late 50s) switch to milled receivers. More and more issues with, and ways to optimize the gun were found over the years, so they kept production of milled receivers up until the roll-out of the AKM. Anyway, love the vz. 58. And even here in Europe, aftermarket parts are definitely not readily available everywhere. It's not like you just stumble over them in a store like with AK stuff, but have to specifically look for what you want. Then you can already start crying in advance, because most of it is probably out of stock/production.
I probably never ever heard anyone pronouncing it like "vee zed." 😀 Here in Czechia, we just say that whole word VZOR, not shortcut VZ, similarly as Brits say "Mark," not "Mk" 🙂 VZ58, full name "samopal vzor 58" is the legend here, everyone is very proud of that gun and no Czech would touch "some rusty AK" which has like 200 kg and doesn't even have bolt hold open. 😀 10:50 - It think it's the same reason why charging handle is on right side, it was designed for "stupid conscripts" during communism, so when you manipulate with safety or charging handle (they were taught to do that with their right hand before 1989), you CAN'T have your finger on the trigger and cause some mess I guess. I just don't understand why they didn't modify it later, especially when it's THAT easy, the same with magazine release, I think that the point is to have the same experience as with original military VZ58, but you can modify it easily if you want, for extra money ofcourse. 🙂 I would say that VZ58 with some mods installed can have perfect ergonomy, especially when you have even charging handle on left, I saw even very rare modification with stanag shaft and chambered in 5.56. That's for example what Poles did with their AKs after they entered NATO. 11:07 - I 100% agree with you, this is a problem and I don't understand why they didn't fix it in modern reproductions, but again, I believe it's sharp and not comfortable on purpose because it is just like it was and again, it could be fixed just by some alternative pistol grip. I have an airsoft version of VZ58 and it's there too, the same problem on plastic airsoft version, they just know how to copy original gun even with everything what is bad about that. 😀
Vee zed is a Canada thing I guess. There was also a RUclips channel that pronounced it like that who I thought was from the Czech Republic…..polanar tactical or something like that’s? I can’t remember.
@@combatreadychannel In Czech, we pronounce Z like ZED, but in English, we tend to use US way how to pronounce it, because that's what we hear in movies, shows, games and on youtube the most often. But a lot of people had Oxford teachbooks in school and we were forced to pronounce in a British way, that was like 15-20 years ago, I don't know if they still learn from these crazy teachbooks.
In fact its just as reliable as AK. All dirt gets blown out or falls out. Nothing gets inside the rear mechanism. Even if, there is plenty of space and tolerances for it to work dirty. Only thing that can jamm it is micro dust with water, making sticky substance. Others did the testing for you. Passed with flying colours. Just InRange test is a lot AR-strenghts based, so there it failed. As its not closed. Czech and Slovakian army tested it in Siberia, Mongolia, it works. It fought in Vietnam. On the side of NATO in Iraq and Afghan. My pal used it ti win beer bets with US troops. They didnt believed its more reliable than AR and cant work with hand full of sand in it. It could.
@@smokingcrab2290 frozen, dusty or "swampy" ... throw a DI AR in a deep muddy puddle or swampy water without muzzle sealed and you will have SERIOUS issues because the first round will push all that coarse crud in the tube right into the guts of the gun, same thing with dust, once it gets into the gas tube the operating principle of direct impingement pushes that again right into the guts of the gun. And ARs dont like that very much any piston gun will handle that just fine which is exactly why even USMC got issued PISTON driven H&K 416 now ... and the M7 is short stroke gas piston design ...
And when something gets wrong, you see everything and you can clean it super fast compared to AK or not even talking about AR. Also, magical reliability of AK is pretty much just a myth, internet is full of discussions about malfunctions and when you put sand and mud inside, it doesn't work, like every other gun.
In a lot of ways it is! Especially with some of the upgrades that are available to the VZ58 that are nonexistent for the Ak platform. Here is a link to our rumble channel with some upgrade options. rumble.com/v2dxs5g-vz58-1913-stock-adapter-with-jmac-folding-stock.html
Not exactly lol. The AK is a bit more reliable overall. The VZ58 is better because of the more modern features like the obvious bolt hold open. I build AKs and love the simplicity of them. I can use sheet metal 4130 .067 thousands annealed and stamp my own recievers out with a homemade bending jig and a harbor freight press. Parts are on tap and things are easy to put together. The VZ on the other hand is also easy but you dont get 80% lowers easily if any and you have to get demilled recievers that dont have the locking lugs blown out from the torch cutting shenanigans. Welding them up is easy to do , just not easy to find unfxcked trunnion barreled sections. I personally like the AK more but also love my VZ 58s .
Back in Vietnam VZ was a priced weapon among Vietnamese forces for it's lighter weight than AK. In 1967 USSR conducted weapon tests of their AKM, licence made AKs around Warsaw pact and VZ-58. On single shots at range of 100m weapon did not differentiate from AKs. However, when firing in bursts, the Czechoslovak weapon experienced significantly worse dispersion. The examination committee assessed that the reason was a higher rate of fire compared to the AKM (800 versus 600 rounds per min.) and the lack of experience of Soviet shooters with this type (however, one of its otherwise good features - lower weight - also contributes to the worse behavior of the gun). During stress tests VZ had no failures in function, but 5 parts broke and had to be replaced. Meanwhile AK under the same conditions suffered no part breaks, but had 7 failures in function. Tests in the Soviet Union have shown that, except for the reduced accuracy of burst fire and the slightly lower service life of some parts, the vz. 58 in terms of tactical-technical parameters, reliability, accuracy with individual shots and processing quality at a comparable level to the Kalashnikov design.
Hard to compare , only troops in Vietnam s war compared IT , they prefered Ak 47 , btw VZ 58 , were Made in czechoslovakia cca 913 OOO weapons. I used in czeslowak army All weapons very often , VZ 58 IS really good, very easy, ofcourse after shot , we cleaned IT, l have still big Respect to vz 58.
2.nd Its not about magazine, that it locks. Magazine pushes that button. Just as AR top of mag pushes o that lever. Frame of vz. 58 is milled high quallity steel. Not aluminum. At least the originals. Everyone who compared it with AK and now I dont mean Russians or AK fan base, liked it better. Vietnamese, Chinese, Syrians, Africans... but USSR forbid us to sell the gun too much as not to make competition for AK. We were able to sell it after 1990 but that time it was too late. You can buy a lot of aftermarket kits to it. Like bolt-hold open side lever and so on.
Everyone knows about it. I shot like 2 rounds out of a Yugo AK and a couple shotgun shells. That's all the experience I have, and I know about this gun.
I do understand the firearm. I just don’t think it was a good design and should be changed. The fire selection should be on the left side and the optic mount can easily be redesigned to allow it. It would be better. There is a reason nearly all of the most popular and ergonomic rifles have the selector on the left side.

You’re right, it does look and feel almost like it’s a toy. It very deceptive
the reason that everything is on the right side is so it can be slung on their back and the left, smooth side of the gun is against their back, more comfortable to carry without shit stabbing you in the back.
Canadian shooters say Vee-Zee lol. The only parts interchangeable with the AK's are the front and rear sights. That's it that's all.
7.62 Yes I want 1
I want 2!! One in 7.62x39 and one in 5.56!
How reliable are the polymer mags compared to the millsurp mags?
This rifle only came with polymer. I did have a couple failures to feed that I think was a magazine problem but I need to test that theory a little more. When I had the Vz 2008 several years back, I had the surplus magazines and I can’t ever remember having a malfunction with them. I am planning on getting some of the surplus magazines soon to compare them.
I’ve run the Zahal poly mags with no problem.
Doesn't the vz58 have a bolt release push botton?
It does, did I not mention that in this video? You can also upgrade it
The upgrades you need on your VZ58: bolt and magazine release
ruclips.net/video/c_EtOX7DtO0/видео.html
if there were some small changes it would be THE best rifle on market now it is very good and reliable rifle but with them it would be perfect
I definitely holds its own as is and it doesn’t take much to make it better
3rd.
So you said that there aren’t many companies making accessories for it. Does that mean the options for upgrading the 58 are limited?
Is the trigger plastic or steel ?
It’s steel
Orginal Ak is stamped
I probably never ever heard anyone pronouncing it like "vee zed." 😀
Here in Czechia, we just say that whole word VZOR, not shortcut VZ, similarly as Brits say "Mark," not "Mk" 🙂
VZ58, full name "samopal vzor 58" is the legend here, everyone is very proud of that gun and no Czech would touch "some rusty AK" which has like 200 kg and doesn't even have bolt hold open. 😀
10:50 - It think it's the same reason why charging handle is on right side, it was designed for "stupid conscripts" during communism, so when you manipulate with safety or charging handle (they were taught to do that with their right hand before 1989), you CAN'T have your finger on the trigger and cause some mess I guess.
It’s steel
Yes, if you are referring to the VZ receiver then that is correct. I missed it in the video but added a correction in the video description.
If you need any upgrades for this rifle. Reach out to me. I live here in CZECH Republic and we have tons of accessories especially for this gun
If you want I can send you my 5.56 version to review
It could.
Aks are only "more reliable" in frozen environments.
And ARs dont like that very much
any piston gun will handle that just fine
which is exactly why even USMC got issued PISTON driven H&K 416 now ... and the M7 is short stroke gas piston design ...
And when something gets wrong, you see everything and you can clean it super fast compared to AK or not even talking about AR.
Also, magical reliability of AK is pretty much just a myth, internet is full of discussions about malfunctions and when you put sand and mud inside, it doesn't work, like every other gun.
I had no idea this even existed. Seems like it could be better than the AK???
In a lot of ways it is! Especially with some of the upgrades that are available to the VZ58 that are nonexistent for the Ak platform. Here is a link to our rumble channel with some upgrade options. rumble.com/v2dxs5g-vz58-1913-stock-adapter-with-jmac-folding-stock.html
All things being equal, I think it is, although the AK has greater aftermarket support and magazine availability.
I used in czeslowak army All weapons very often , VZ 58 IS really good, very easy, ofcourse after shot , we cleaned IT, l have still big Respect to vz 58.
maybe they prefered AK because of amount of magazines around, VZ58 having different magazine is a complication
It's not aluminum, it's steel.
Yes I miss spoke but put a correction in the video description .
2.nd
Its not about magazine, that it locks.

Thanks for subscribing!
Everyone knows about it. I shot like 2 rounds out of a Yugo AK and a couple shotgun shells. That's all the experience I have, and I know about this gun.
The safety is on the correct side. You just don't understand the firearm. If you wanna attach a scope mount it must be this way
I do understand the firearm. I just don’t think it was a good design and should be changed. The fire selection should be on the left side and the optic mount can easily be redesigned to allow it. It would be better. There is a reason nearly all of the most popular and ergonomic rifles have the selector on the left side.
I'd get one if I didnt have to pay as much for one
It really is a nice rifle but it is over priced in my opinion.
