In this 2021 video, Petty Officer Manson and Lt. Ryan O'Neil, the aircraft commander, discuss the rescue on June 19, 2021, which occurred 70 miles offshore from the California-Oregon border, resulting in all six persons lives aboard a disabled 79-foot schooner being saved.
(Coast Guard video by Petty Officer Brandon Giles)
" You have to make it happen".
Best damn outfit in the US anywhere!
You do so much for so many and with so few.
Total Respect.
Army Vet.
Thanks Army Vet Don. I am a former coastie. Yes the CG does many tasks with low budget.
The CG is just the best and have so many unsung heroes . Spent 23 yrs in the army but so much of my military respect goes to them
this is so true, they are badass, my upmost respect to the enlisted rescue swimmers
They aren’t part of the military. Haven’t been for many many years. Not saying they aren’t awesome, but they aren’t part of the armed forces in DOD.
@@egondro9157 didn’t say THEY were military. Just giving them MY military respect .That clear it up for you ?
@@egondro9157reading is hard huh?
Wrong! Every member of the USCG raises their right hand and swears the EXACT same oath as any other branch of the military and is subject to the UCMJ as well. The CG is and, always has been a military service. They are under the DHS so that they can enforce federal law because our US Constitution does not allow the DOD to do so. Established in 1790 by Alexander Hamilton the CG has fought in every major conflict of war. There are Coasties and CG vessels and aircraft serving in the middle east right now and recently, while escorting a USN submarine, fired upon Iranian vessel attempting to interfere with the sub as it transited international waters. Try telling Douglas Munro, a MOH recipient, who lost his life on Guadal Canal while he volunteered to return to the beach to rescue US Marines who were pinned down by Japanese machine gun fire, that he was not in the military. Those same Machine guns killed him. USMC General Chesty Puller recommend him for that MOH and Munro is the only non Marine listed on their Wall of MOH recipients. Please do your research before you spout off ridiculous nonsense. @@egondro9157
“I can’t let go. We don’t have time for that.” Not bad for a first rescue Brother.
These are the men and women that we never think about, until we need them. Bravo.
Distinguished Flying Cross on his first rescue... Huge!
"You can't give up. You have to make it happen." Thank God for people willing to risk their lives to help others. Thank you USCG!
Thanks to the Coast Guard for keeping our homeland safe! I spent 30 years in the Army and most don't think of the CG but they are unsung hero's out there doing their job everyday, thank you!
The unsung branch of our military!! Go USCG!!!
"You have to make it happen" That's the Coast Guard Spirit, Semper Paratus brother!
Wow, this is absolutely awesome! My appreciation to the USCG for staying trained and ready, unsung everyday heroes making this possible!
Thank you guys. Your valor and gallantry have made the world a better place for all
Outstanding job Sirs!

The Coast Guard also saved my battle buddy &I from my sank boat off the Pacific Ocean three years ago
Semper Paratus. These guys are beasts and heroes. What a good feeling it must be to see those helos coming in those conditions!
I saw something about this recently! Thank you for sharing this interview! These guys and gals are so cool!
Outstanding
Well done!!
Great job!!!! Thanks for your service for sure!!!
HUGE respect for the Coasties from a retired Marine - you guys are on duty every day. Semper Fidelis et Paratus!
Salute, risking your lives to save lives 24/7, amazing!!
Thank God for men like this . People this is what makes America great and always has 🫡
It's awesome knowing there's such badass men and women ready to save me from my own stupidity, truly the masters of the sea.
Rad 🔥🔥🔥
BAD MEN the level of bravery is just not of this world
Great job, but they didn’t “let you through” the training, you earned it. Your humility is certainly admirable though and much respect brother.
We did a rescue in the North Atlantic in 2002, over 720 miles from our base, 450 miles from land. We aerial refueled 5 times during the mission (11.7 hours of blade time). That yacht was 65 feet long, with seas of 25 feet, with rogue waves eclipsing 60 feet and winds of 60 knots. I was the flight engineer (hoist/winch operator) of the pick up bird. Lead blew a damper in the hover putting the PJ and CCT on the deck. The PJ and CCT only received Air Medals, which I thought was a huge injustice. It was definitely a DFC mission. The CCT later was Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People, and the PJ later earned his commission as a Combat Rescue Officer. Rest in Peace Dave, you were one of the good ones.
Not too bad for a special operations platform that rarely did rescue work.
Right? As if they could have stopped him
Excellent Job “Puddle Pirates” 😁
You are doing Douglas Munro proud!🫡❤️🇺🇸
Semper Paratus - Semper Fidelis
as much as the CG gets shit on, yall are still legends.
Bravo Zulu brother 👍🇺🇸
You can always count on the heroes of the U.S. Coast Guard. 👍🇺🇸
Warriors. Against the SEA.
Cheers. USN8300, 30 and out.
Semper Paratus
Heroes never quit. 👍👍👍
This is why these folks are super elite, Tier 1 for sure.
Semper Paratus brothers!!
Damn!
Well done, Gents.
Bravo Zulu!
Well done.
Nice work!! 👍🏼USCG
When the going gets tough, the tough get going.
Bravo Zulu

I hate to admit it but one of my best instructors at Annapolis was a CG pilot.
You can admit it! Though, this admin has worked with CG pilots and Navy pilots, and Navy pilots make working/landing/replenishment at sea aboard moving ships look easy.
Effing A.
people dont deserve awards for simply doing their JOBS
BZ
What about the flight mech? Not important enough to be in the spotlight?
Pseudo military.
Been there.
sorry bro, but could you be a tad more boring for a an actual air rescue?
As my Mst Sgt in Air Force JROTC in high school loved to say, "The Coast Guard is by far my favorite branch of the United States military. It's the only one who's primary purpose isn't to kill people or break things." Well done Coast Guard, from a fellow Oregonian.
As a former Marine Corps Rescue Swimmer…Well done Swimmer and crew.
Semper Fi and Paratus.
This has boosted my spirits through the roof today.
So proud of the few who do for the many. 🇺🇸
Ooh rah, devil dog!
@DavidJohnson-vs5nr Sir, my WW2 Marine uncle (all islands except Tarawa) passed at 90 in 2015, was 20 on Iwo Jima. He and my only child, son, USCG, 33, now veteran, and my WW2 dad (and mom) had the tightest relationship though 60 yrs age difference, because they were military. They 3 - and mom who didn't serve -were the only ones in our family who truly showed the utmost respect, love and interest in one another. While my son was gone for over 13 years serving, I served helping our veterans around the East Bay - EBSD, VALOR GAMES on CGI, etc - so I wouldn't go down missing my only child. Thank YOU, sir, for your service to our nation. SEMPER PARATUS TO SEMPER FI! God hugely bless and protect you.
Retired Navy FMF Corpsman here….I have the utmost respect and admiration for the Coast Guard. All you have to do is watch a couple episodes of “Deadliest Catch” and you will be in awe of their incredible heroism. [Salute]
I’ve been in the fire service for 27 years, and my biggest regret is that I didn’t join the Coast Guard when I was a kid. I don’t know how they walk with balls so big! Semper Paratus!
Having been in Group Coos Bay in the late 60's and doing small boat rescue with 36 and 44 footers, it was just really exciting and fun. Then on a particularly dangerous boat call i remember thinking, "how do I make the
ocean my enemy?". I found you can't, but if you genuinely respect it, you can work with it, most of the time.
Awesome!!! Bravo Zulu to the whole Team!
“You have to go out, but you don’t have to come back” - USCG Motto
These people are the real heroes, not the celebrities in sports or media or the actors we keep hearing about. How come these guys are never nominated as person of the year instead of a man wearing a dress pretending to be a woman?
Warriors for Good! Well done! Semper Fidelis, Lieutenant Colonel, USMC (Retired)
From a retired land based medic, “job well done” now get ready for the next call! 👍👍👍👍🏆🏆🏆🏆💙🇺🇸🇺🇸💙
This old Marine says you folks are fantastic!
Semper Fi to Semper Paratus
Incredible rescue! Thank you for saving their lives!!
You guys are the very best of us, and it makes me proud to know people like you guys are out there!
Thank you for what you do.
Cheers from Switzerland
Good work, Coasties!!
Thank you all for your service. I can't even imagine what y'all go through, daily. I wish you all long and prosperous lives.
Great job!
As a former H46 pilot with 26 rescues - Bravo Zula 🙂
Sadly but truly, You don't hear much about both the Coast Guard and the Space Force, as these Branches of Service are made fun of and are ridiculed by predominantly General Purpose Marines, Sailors, Airmen and Soldiers, however, Coasties rescue Civilians and fight Drugs and Terrorists with HITRON and MSRT, and the Space Force has It's First Airborne, Air Assault, Sapper, and Ranger-Qualified Guardian ,in the form of Captain Daniel " Bandit" Reynolds, USSF. Much love and respect for both the Coast Guard and Space Force, From this United States Marine Corps and Army Enlisted Veteran!!🇺🇲🇺🇸❤️♥️🪖💣💥🔥‼️
Fantastic job!
These guys are the best swimmers in the world. I’d be curious to see how Olympic swimmers would do in these situations.
Well done Swimmer, a definite hero who jumped into extremely hazardous conditions and emerged a hero. My hat is off to you Son, again, well done.
Bravo Zulu! So Others May Live...USN SARS 81-85
CG needs some upgrades too! Modern icebreakers for sure, maybe some cutters and choppers? Definitely dem shiny new CH-53ks.
Inspirational! Great work, team! Semper Paratus! 😎✌️
For anyone interested The Guardian is a movie based on what these young men go through to qualify as CGR.
I am so proud of you guys. What an amazing group. What an amazing leader. God bless you. Prayers for continued safety and success. ❤️🇺🇲🇮🇱✝️🙏🙏🙏👍👌❤️🇺🇲
Great Job team.
With the help of Almighty God, yes, Coasties. Well done, Bravo Zulu Adam, Ryan, Spencer. From US Coast Guard mom, son, only child, veteran.
My Mom was a Coastie Mom too. Both my brother and I were CG. Best job on the planet! Just before she died at 81 years, I told her that, Dad gave us the love of the sea but, she was the reason we were Good Coasties. Thanks to all CG Moms!
A big BZ to you Petty Officer Manson. Your actions just further the SAR motto "So others may live". FLY NAVY!!!
Extraordinary athlete and hero.
These guys are amazing.
Igor said when he invented the helicopter it will save numerous lives. So true.
He could only get the Didtinguished Flying Cross only in combat. Good video. Great job.
True HEROS!!!
The “Coasties” are the best!
That Dauphine heli will forever be inextricably linked with Pamela Anderson running slo-mo along the beach. She rescued many a distressed swimmer with her inflatables, through refused all medals for fear they would puncture said inflatables.
Fucking good work guys. Keep it up!
If there is one service branch I have tons of respect for, it's the CG. Their mission is to save lives unlike the other services that are puppets to their political masters.
So no interview of the Flight Mech?..without him, that mission doesn’t happen
Congratulations to Spencer Manson and the entire crew !
Was that rescue out of Air Station North Bend, Oregon??
A distinguished service by a very modest AST.
CG rescue swimmer, to earn that is up there with any special forces in the world.
How about showing them getting the DFC medals
I'm gonna be a rescue swimmer!!
why does he have a bigfoot on his nametag?
Tax dollars well spent, people.
👍
