  • Despite its name, this GP isn't that rage inducting, although reverse tracks get really tricky on class 5, especially on Lakeside Gate where there isn't much room to screw up because how narrow the track is. Oh and I must admit that The Extreme Oval went way better than thought.
Recorded via Retroarch (Beetle PS1 HW Core) by using the original PAL copy which I own. Also used PGXP, which makes textures look way more stable.

I used to be scared of the Purple Truck and the Red Car as a kid. They would always sneak up on ya if you aren't careful! Ahh memories.

OMG!!! How did you manage to get graphics so nice? No blinking lines between textures, higher texture definition. I've never seen such a good result with emulator!

Thanks! I used Retroarch's Beetle PSX HW core, with PGXP option turned on. PGXP is basically perspective correction which makes polygons look much more stable, and while it isn't perfect (tunnels have some black polygons and some of the cars have flickering issues), it really works well on Rage Racer. I used 8x internal resolution as well.

Damn dude nice, do you have any tips and tricks on how to drift like that?! I recently played this and really couldn't get the hang of it

I haven't played Rage Racer for long time, but as far as I remember, the general gist is that you start drift motion by releasing the gas as you are approaching the corner, and then pressing the brake while steering. That should the start the drift motion.
And from there you should attempt balance the car via steering, so you can leave from the drift safely without colliding into the wall or something, when the car stops drifting; try to listen tire screeching in order to get the timing whenever the car will stop drifting: the car will usually go certain amount of distance (depending how fast you entered the drift) before the car stops drifting and resumes to normal control.
Sorry if my instructions are really vague, but honestly (for me at least) it is something you will eventually get used to. Keep trying! Lizard cars are made for drifting so you could start practicing drifting on those cars.

Yeah, it is PAL version. Didn't own NTSC version back when I recorded this playthrough.
