0:30-0:56 Sigourney Weaver's German is superb! She even throws in a 'ciao' at the end of the phone call. It's rare to find American Hollywood actresses today that can flex their 'multilingual' muscles at the drop of a hat. I miss talented 80's actresses
Sigourney Weaver is an amazing actress and she was amazing in this movie. Tess liked Katherine Parker from the start and she said to her ugly boyfriend that she is like a mentor which is someone I needed and she was finally getting some where until the idea she had for Task Industries and she was the one that Katherine about it and then Katherine used the idea for her own "Two Way Street and you make it happen! When Tess found out that Katherine took idea and she looked at the computer and saw Katherine Parker on it. I would have been fucking pissed. Seriously! But the only reason Katherine did that was because she was the CEO of her company and Tess was a threat and employee. Tess managed to get her idea sold to Jack Trainer who was dating Katherine at the time and she didn't know it yet. So when Katherine broke her leg that was Tess's chance. She finally made it with the help of Jack. Katherine lost her job in the end and had to start all over! This movie should be shown to colleges when it comes to dealing with people Business Elite in the real world.
Never noticed that Tess and Katherine are dressed similarly in this scene. Reflects Katherine's influence, which she appears to notice as she's telling Tess that you don't get things by waiting for them to come to you.
Some supervisors treat their employees so bad they rip off their increases so that this one supervisor can have more money? I whistleblew this and when they realized I had information about it - they quickly got me out of that position because I was trying to help those employees who were being screwed out of their salaries. I was only able to help two since all of my research took after work to get their pay increases back. You see they never gave me the APA Advice of Personal Action so I had no way of knowing what was happening until I saw something suspicious and went and found out the truth. What is worse this was in HR? Scammers will take advantage of people no matter what.
Sigourney is so Deliciously Evil in this movie. I think everyone in their lifetime has had a woman boss like this and they can relate to Melanie Griffith's character. Too bad Sigourney lost out on the Oscar for this role. Members of the Academy HATED her character and gave the Oscar to Geena Davis "Accidental Tourist" instead.
What’s funny is that Tess later borrows Katherine’s dress and somehow fits perfectly in it, despite the fact Sigourney Weaver is about a foot taller than her.
Sigourney Weaver is my favorite actress she should get an Oscar. She is long overdue and she was a kick ass strong woman in Alien and Aliens. Working Girl Gorilla's In The Mist, Avatar, were her best work.
Helmut? Hier ist Katherine Parker. Wunderschön danke und Sie? Wie ist ihrer Rücken? Gut und Marlena? Fabelhaft. Hören Sie, es ist möglich das 314 zu bekommen? Vielen vielen Dank. Sie sind mein Süßer. Gut bis heute Abend dann. Also ciao.
Katherine didn't want to help Tess with any programs because if this deal went through she would expect Tess to keep giving her ideas so she can take them for herself and not bother to share with Tess at all. What a bum!
This is my attempt: Helmut? This is Katherine Parker (...) Wonderfully, thanks. And you? How's your back?(...)Good! How's Milena?(...)Fabulous! Listen, is it possible to receive the 314?(...) Thank you very much, you are my sweetheart(...)Good, see you there this evening. Ciao
"Helmut, it's Katherine Parker here. Wonderful thank you and you? How is your back? Good. And Marlena? Marvelous. Listen, is room 314 available? Thank you very very much. You are my sweet heart. Good. This evening then. Ok. Bye"
I don't know if you guys have seen "Fifty Shades Darker" there are many scenes that they took from "Mike Nichols "Working Girl" where the dialogue of her mother Melanie Griffin and daughter Dakota Johnson have similar scenes that surprised me. It fits in well with "Fifty Shades Darker" of the Trilogy movies. When both get promotions and say the same lines. Pretty funny.
Katherine Parker always needed pampering and her demands were so out there but you have to put up with alot in the business world and be professional and do your job and don't ask for any favors and don't volunteer and just do your job and keep your mouth shut. You have a job and you have to put up with alot. Especially if your boss is demanding and everything is about him or her. Signourney Weaver one a golden globe for this performance. Good movie.
If this movie was any different Mary Louise Weller has the boss' job at Revlon promoting Jean Nate After Bath Splash. Geena Davis plays the Revlon secretary and receptionist also wants to take over the Jean Nate After Bath Splash promotion. I use this as an example is that both Mary Louise Weller and Geena Davis are in the Jean Nate After Bath Splash commercials. Stunt-woman Debbie Evans should make a great cameo appearance.
Tess really liked Katherine but Katherine treated Tess like a doormat and took her idea as if it was her own and I would be pissed off too if I was Tess but in the real world there is nothing you can do about it and its sad that Tess was lied to and the two way street you make it happen..... when she saw the screen and its said Katherine Parker had an idea and lets' roll with it to Jack Trainer that made Tess so mad. I dont' blame she was take advantage of but finally Tess won in the end. In the business world keep your head down and your mouth shut! Don't give these people any of your time and don't run to your boss and bitch about employee they will do the same to you and I am so glad I am not working anymore! Thank god for that! I don't miss those days! I may a loser but I don't care! I am free from all that stress begging for my boss for a day off or the holidays which is worse. Thank god I dont' have to work!
I can assure you some of the bosses I worked for were scam artists and took advantage of their employees until I blew the whistle on this supervisor. The problem is I wished I waited until I got everyone that needed their increases because in Payroll had to have the APA before changing the salaries but what creep of a supervisor felt the need to take money away from these hard-working people I felt I had to put down my 2 cents worth to help. However, being in the payroll division they will change it back to what they want. Nothing is ever going to be perfect with bad intentions supervisors including my own boss?
It's amazing the things higher level executives get away with, trying on freakin' ski boots on company time and getting their admin to help them with it, as well as using their admin to make reservations for a non-work trip. I mean really. Anybody below her level doing that shit would get canned or at least heavily reprimanded, and it would be brought up on their next evaluation.
Sigourney was playing a man bc she was just like any male executive in the workplace. Her performance is not exaggerated at all bc this is how they treat others in the workplace. 99% viewers watching this scene can relate.

This girl was a mean-spirited and malignant narcissist you could imagine. Plus, I had to take a test and pass my Steno II which I did. However, no one did anything for me but me. I worked for what i earned but hate when those that sleep with their boss get the upper hand.

Sigourney is giving me life in this scene. Haughty, elitist, fake-nice. LIVING for it.

Business Elite in the real world.
Rachel Paray
You are so old.
"And I am after all, me." Best line in the film. After "If you want a different answer, ask a different girl."
Lol I love the robotic “I’ve indicated I’m receptive to an offer.”
Sigourney Weaver is a beautiful/brilliant actress she is wonderful in anything that she does
Sigourney should have won the best supporting actress oscar for this role!
The sad thing for Katherine is that Tess took her "you don't wait for things to come to you .. you make it happen" advice to heart ..
and Katherine first took tess' idea and tried to make it hers.
Lesson well learned! I don’t get tired of watching Working Girl!😍
Never noticed that Tess and Katherine are dressed similarly in this scene. Reflects Katherine's influence, which she appears to notice as she's telling Tess that you don't get things by waiting for them to come to you.
I never noticed that til now 👍
I hate it when employees are treated like personal servants!
Some supervisors treat their employees so bad they rip off their increases so that this one supervisor can have more money? "I've cleared the month of June."
She speaks German throughout that phone call, and then says Good-bye in Italian, haha
Carson Lee Europeans do that though! All my French friends would say goodbye with a ciao.
Tchao is german too, you have to study

"And I am, after all, me." I've jokingly used that line myself over the years and completely forgotten where I'd gotten it from!
What’s funny is that Tess later borrows Katherine’s dress and somehow fits perfectly in it, despite the fact Sigourney Weaver is about a foot taller than her.

FierceONeill Melanie is 5’9” and Sigourney is 5’11”
& a lot slimmer 😊

I’ve met so many people in the industry that live off of other peoples jealousy and she is playing that perfectly
One of the few Americans who actually have a somewhat decent German!
It's just a movie 🎥🍿 CIAO
That reproval with a smile at 0:21 and that fake effort gesture at 1:49 to make Tess go to her boots to help her while she's remains sitting there.
Her range as an actor is stunning.
That she’s this character, and Ridley from Alien and Dana from Ghostbusters…..as well as several other characters.
Katherine didn't want to help Tess with any programs because if this deal went through she would expect Tess to keep giving her ideas so she can take them for herself and not bother to share with Tess at all. What a bum!
She was SO great in this film! Does anyone know what she says to him?
She asks him how his back is and how his wife Marlene is and asks if it's possible to get room 314. She thanks him and says he's a sweetheart :)
Ciao
Goodbye was the last word
Nope
"Helmut, it's Katherine Parker here.

And Marlena?
Marvelous.
Listen, is room 314 available?
Thank you very very much.
You are my sweet heart.
Good. This evening then.
Ok. Bye"
Working Girl.....LOVE ''some times i sing and dance in my underwear doesn't make me Madonna, never will''

She certainly did learn from her!🤣

I have to say Tess was treated like a doormat from Catherine 2 Way Street And You Make It Happen**** I love it when Katherine got the boot.
I like Melanie's acting and all, but the forever throat-clearing mannerism that she adapted to her character does during talking is annoying,,,,
Sigourney Weaver won best supporting actress award for Working Girl.
No she did not!
Tess was actually the villain in the movie.....’sorry’.
Power gets into people's heads. CEO VP you name it. Always be professional.
She didn't tell Helmut when she would need the room.
Tess already provided that info. Katherine was only changing the room.
Most of the characters Sigourney Weaver has played would punch me in the face, and I’d be totally fine with that
WOW!
It's amazing the things higher level executives get away with, trying on freakin' ski boots on company time and getting their admin to help them with it, as well as using their admin to make reservations for a non-work trip. Katharine turned out no better than Tess’s other bosses, worse even
HALLMOOTH?
translation please
The take brought me here ( the girlboss trope explained )
Sigourney was playing a man bc she was just like any male executive in the workplace.
Her performance is not exaggerated at all bc this is how they treat others in the workplace.
99% viewers watching this scene can relate.
I loved "Working Girl" a lot and it is true that one has to watch for the barracudas that will steal your ideas for themselves as I recalled when a CEO wanted his live-in girlfriend to have more money so they took all I did and several other people jobs descriptions so that she can earn more money? The problem I had with Katherine's home computer didn't send the message to him about this idea or was it just sitting there?
She was talking to the hotel manager I assume and not her lover. She was calling to book the room she wanted in the hotel, the one Tess tried to book for her but couldn't get.
Saw half. Copyright stopped after 45 minutes. Crap service.
Sigourney Weaver was SUBLIME in this role.
Those ski boots look a hot mess with that ensemble.
You amlost want to "hate" Sigourney Weaver's character as much as you hate Miss Ratched
in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Sigourney is that good in the role.
0:30
Seriously getting on her knees and helping with her shoes?
She speaking German in this Scene. In German Vision Italiano.
That person in the red ski boots wants power of a man with the advantages of a woman
She is a PG13 version of Samantha Jones.
"why don't you propose to him?"
That was the only true thing she ever said in this movie
It’s scary they’re both supposed to be in their 20s
Lots of nylons in this scene
I believe the nylons make the outfit look complete.
