- Chopping Triticale with Zimmerman Family Harvesting @farmhandmike
In this video I am out in the field with Zimmerman Farmily Harvesting as they merge and chop triticale for silage for a dairy farm near Wolf Lake Indiana. In this video they are merging windrows of triticale with their Massey Ferguson 8670 tractor pulling a H&S Tri-Flex windrow merger then they are chopping the crop with one of their Claas Jaguar 980 self propelled forage harvesters equipped with a Claas 380 pickup head. Hauling the silage from field to farm is 4 JCB Fastrac Tractor pulling custom built dump carts and back at the farm is a Versa Bagger ID1040 bagging the crop.
This is an action packed video with lots of great drone and on the ground footage I shot using my Go Pro Hero 7 camera and DJI Mavic Pro.

It’s good to see some American farms using other brands like JCB and not only all John Deere machinery
American Harvest with European Machines.....Top Video like all the others Mike
Mike, these days I find myself farming vicariously through youtube. That Jaguar does an amazing job. What a Machine !!
Always looking forward to ur videos Mike. Thank u for showing us ur beautiful country 👍
My pleasure!
Lots of coordination of efforts to handle the hourly tonnage output!!!
Looks like the running from a liquid manure tankers under the carts.
Nice looks carts i like the color they painted them. Pass the comment on to the custom crew.
That was a first-claas-video! 😉👍🏻
Mike , would love to see more JCB exposure. Very unique tractors and wish them success here
Amazing tractors
Massey Power !! And JCB very fun tractor to drive
They know how to put the capital H in harvesting. First rate equipment. Nicely done
Another great video Mike. Fantastic drone footage and I really enjoyed watching the JCB tractors in action.
Looking forward to the video! I live right down the road from them!
Fantastic video..... I don’t see enough of silage in this setup from America!!!! It’s mostly cutting grain is all!!! Great equipment, trailers with the red rims were best!! Reminds me of penta box trailers from Canada!!!
Now that's a real fleet off machinery.
Good to hear the whine and growl of the machines instead of 'thump thump' music
What? Nothing like opening up RUclips and seeing your first cousin chopping way to go Mike, fantastic video of the Zimmerman boys doing work
Great video! The sheer amount of food in one of those carts amazing me. I'm not a farmer but follow several of the farmers like 10th gen dairy farmer and Dutch Sask Kid. I imagine if a farmer in the ancient past was shown this how much they'd be wowed by the scale of it when most manual labor used to be dedicated to food production. There are many interesting aspects to modern farming, including the biological science, the mechanical nature and upgrade / features to the equipment, and the day-to-day activities of farmers, be it tractor driving or miscellaneous activities.
Joe Smith Another one that I follow is George Ritchie from Annan in Southwest Scotland
Thanks Mike Great Vlog, those claas choppers do a great job
Massive windrows!
Lookin' good! A buddy of mine is running one of the JCB's.
Another RUclipsr runs a fleet of these and couldn't be more unimpressed. "They are never all up at the same time, something always broke". His thoughts on the machines?
@@davidvandeberg7651 There's a reason there known as ScrapTracs. Joking aside though, it's all only as good as the dealer backup. Everyone local to me loves Deere but that's because the dealer is incredible, if they can't fix it quickly there'll be another tractor there within an hour. No arguments, no nonsense just brilliant. If they were a JCB dealer, JCB would probably have a better reputation.
That's a nice fleet. Really like the custom build trailers👍
Love me them JCB's!
Awesome
Nice to see Massey`s +Jcb Fastracs In Indiana!
Great custom carts!!
What a beautiful view
We tried to make hay with tritahell! One season, never again! Greatvid
It's whole crop, not grass. You cannot make hay with it. You may want to use lucerne instead.
@@xuser48 or plow it up
@@xuser48 triticale gets baled all the time in Nebraska.
I remember the JCB backhoes compared to Case or Deere were very cheaply made.Basically homeowner grade.
This is just five mes from my farm . You should see them chop corn silage.
Thanks for the video Mike !!!!!!
good team
Great job, Mike. Very interesting. Quite a team. Thanks for sharing.
Fantastic video :)
Awesome footage. Thanks
Thats my grandpas land!!! Thats pretty neat always liked your videos keep up great work. Wish I knew you come been great to meet ya!
Triticale..as in The Trouble With Tribbles? ☺ Enjoying your videos.
Great setup. "Cutting" edge efficiency too.
Nice equipment but the best thing I see them using is the silo king applicator and silo king
Excellent footage Mike . That’s a serious setup for harvesting . Would love to be apart of it but your video is the closest I’ll get to it 😁 . Thank you
Good to see you in my state Mike. Good videos.
nice equipment!
Great video and machines. Greets Stefan
Thanks a lot for posting this Mike. This was pretty cool.
Muy bueno el vídeo , desde cruz de eje , argentina. Saludos . 💪
Looking forward to this one. I think forage harvesting, especially with a well oiled team, is just cool to see.
Not interested
Great work with the recording and video as usual
I'd be interested in knowing how the dump wagons compare in size to a 40ft. Meyer silage trailer behind a truck, or roughly how many tons per load they can handle. Also the total gross weight of the entire rig. We fight compaction in our fields from trucks, but use them due to haul distances of up to 7 miles from field to feed slab.
Hell, is 7miles a long draw over there? I always figured one of the reasons for using trucks was a 30+ mile round trip.
Straya ---🌳-----------------------------------🚜---------------------------🌾🌾🌾🌾🌾🌾🌾_______________🦘___________🌳_| shut the gate Mate!~ cheers👍 🕺
Nothing Better than watching a Farmer Harvest a crop after the big drought ended in OZ the Grain hasnt stop flowing 🌾🌾🌾👍🚜
This video turned out to be a still shot. But I am accustomed to like all of your videos. So I may have pressed the like button to soon.
You can watch it all now. I had it up as a preview until 6PM today.
Great! I was able to view this video. Thumbs up is valid.😋
Nice video Mike. I enjoyed watching this
Great awesome video mike, great equipment setup too ,
Nice to see some uk tractors of in the USA
Well land a Goshen, those were some great forage totes, Mike. Real cool video!
Nice.
I always cringe when they overshoot the cart.😵
So it picks up chops and blows to wagon? Is the sound change a big clump or wad if you will. Basicly feeding or can't blow as fast as it takes in. A lot or hard work that machine does. So interesting the team work or it a really long day.
Great Video Mike...
Lots of Great Action...
I was curious about something tho that i did not see a question about...
Curious why that one JCB Tractor had its Front Tires on backwards...
And after thinking about how you told us the info on the special built Silage trailers which are Very Nice...
Seems that it would Greatly Aid in steering or backing those trailers when unloaded if the lift axle would have been the third axle instead of the first axle...
Lift up the third axle and the operators could have a much tighter turning radius with the trailer when empty...
Anyways that Harvesting Crew sure had a really nice Fleet of Equipment...Cept that Merger...
Wonder if they have ever done a Demo with an Oxbo Merger...
By turning the forward wheels in 4WD tracktors reduces how much front wheels wear when driven in tarmac.
bonjour monsieur mike less, vous faite toujous de belles videos.merci quand meme.si un jour je peux venir aux usa je vous le ferez savoir.pierre france.congratulations.

Those dump wagons look like they were made with GEA Houle manure spreader frames/parts.
Yes that's what they are
Merger looks looks like it’s having trouble handling the crop. Should try a Kuhn.
I think at times they were trying to take to much and when they were grabbing a half windrow that's where the trouble started. Just my observation
Mike Less - Farmhand Mike / Yes that maybe the cause.
Mike other channels put in bin. And looks lot dryer. Is there a lot of difference with bag and other storage ways.?
Are you an all family operation or do you hire help. Looks to me like a well oiled machine between chopper operator and wagon drivers.
Does the merger operator not see the belt is jammed with crop ??
Tidy outfit and good filming 🚜🚜
I bet he doesn't have OCD..
That farm is my neighbor you should do one of when they do corn silage
Also I am a farmer
Hey Mike - cool video. How do you manage to have only machinery sound in your aerial footage and not the sound of the drone props? Greetings from germany
I must admit I was rather surprised to see these brands in the USA usual all I here is john deere. Not that I have anything against john deere. But still nice to see a variety. . Thanks does the chap in the forager aim that arm whilst driving or is it sum sort of auto aim ?
Animal tvi newer harvesters have a camera guided system that can make the chute auto fill but traditionally the driving stick in cab has the chute control on it.
Does the white bag extend as it is filled, like sausage casing? Or is it laid out and filled by force of the machine it is attached to?
Wouldn't imagine a team like these stopping each time to change trailers !!?!we just drive down the side of the trailer getting filled then the chopper driver fires it across to us then full cart stops until they can drive away to empty👍🏻🙈😎🙏🏻🙏🏻
i have sub to u an i like ur videos keep up the good work
how do they figure out how long of a silage bag to use before they start chopping?
In the early 80´s Claas was selling Dump Carts too..they made by Kaweco in the Netherland...but the Quality of them was horrible...
Karl Napp that’s weird because Kaweco is a flagship brand in Silage and Manure trailers nowadays.
Hi Mike nice video again, honestly the use of plastic bags might work fantastic but from the environmental view it is a huge plastic waste all the time!
Hi how are you can you help me or tell me who Buld those dump wagon for you guys
Hey Mike, is the ag bag reusable or recycled?
The best Videos came from the Man with long blond Hair and an Air Guitar....lol...
A couple of questions: 1 has JCB decided to enter the North American market? And 2 if so do you have any specs?
They've been here for 30 years. Check their website.
What is the road speed for those JCBs in the US? Are you allowed to drive them faster than 50km/h (30mph) ?
43mph
I believe you can run them faster here along with the high speed Valtras but the rules cripple the benefits over lorry
42 mph and yes u can drive them as fast as they go
Just have to take the smv triangle off the back over 25mph.
Dont see why they didnt throw the outside 2 rows together cos because they were only a couple feet apart
I live in Goshen
✌️✌️✌️
these guys chop over where I chop
I'am a Zimmerman to, what is this Zimmermans name i might know them.
Great video but I have to agree it seems terribly wasteful with the overshoots and just very nature of not capturing all that they can
I have to ask why isn't there a lid on the carts that opens from the driver side to the passenger side over top of the compartment.
In western Canada we can't go down the road without a tarp.
Cool stuff though thanks
Does the bag unroll as it moves or push load to other end. Is the bag reuseable
The bag comes folded up in a box, you unfold it and put it on the bagger, the bagger forces feed into the bag, which comes off the bagger in layers.
The bags make good tarps and slip-n-slides after use.
Do you how much one of those cart's holds?
25 ton average depends what u haul
hey mike i am from the south and not familar with Tritcale what is it or what is it like ?
triticale is a cross between wheat and rye
Mike, when would a farmer choose silage instead of hay? Is there a significant nutritional difference? It seems like more work to produce silage and storage is different too.
More calories out of a field doing corn silage than hay, and more calories in less storage space. I don't know anything about this triticale though.
How about some info on the JCB's
Sorry I don't know a lot about the JCB tractors and this video is more just about showing the equipment in action.
Visit the JCB web site you will get the information. They are made 2 miles from where I live. They are fast road machines ideal for contractors and big farms.
What's the name of the machine that packs the silage into the bags?
Its a Versa Bagger
Helders Forage Storage in Michigan, they have dozen or more of these versa baggers
i know the Dairy farm they are chopping for.
I’m not that impressed with that merger. Not a smooth flow of crop. I see dead spots and clumps.
I do agree, but that is very dense triticale, not just grass.
Even the Jaguar is struggling to feed that large of a windrow. Anyway, I've seen better mergers, many have a feed roller on top, to keep the crop from flinging off the tines.
Not a big deal, Mike however I believe the pronunciation is "Trituh-kaylee."
You're missing a lot of crop. My father would have had a fit if he saw that waste during our haying season. Bigger equipment doesn't make for a better job done
No one ever said it did it’s all down to the operator
It's all about speed. Gotta get over the acres, dont have time to go back over the small skips. And if they're losing a wheelbarrow load per load over the side, well. It takes a lot of wheelbarrows to fill a trailer.
Those poor guys have to spend all Day in a JCB😢😢
That's just great! I love spending my day driving it!
