  • Road Atlanta's new owners pay for airtime on Prime Network (seriously..check the copyright at the end!). Joe Washington is the ex-NFL guy. He was a sportscaster here in Atlanta for years, I remember working Turn 5 at Road Atlanta when he put a Nissan 300ZX on its roof during a Celebrity Race on IMSA weekend one year. And most of us know Jack. Other fun stuff to note:
Obligatory "Olympics of Motor Racing" comment, about 1:13 or so. Turn 11 hates Showroom Stock A. Weitzenhof with wings! Scharf vs. Davies..again! Boris actually broke a wheel, not an axle. Metal fatigue is the only reason he didn't win four before he went pro.
PLN wasn't the only professional actor/actress that does this for a hobby. Goodbye Girl says 'goodbye' to half the field. Honestly, her history in SCCA mirrors most of us that aren't famous. Mid-pack, regardless of what your "day job" is. Stay cool and focused, and you outrun folks that can't.
And personally, I think the Swift DB-1 (Formula Ford) and DB-4 (Formula Atlantic) are among the "prettiest" racing cars ever built.
Lots of neat 'features' in this broadcast..construction stuff and an interview with Jim Kanely (Championship Group) at about 17:45. Workers (including m'self holding my young daughter for a second or so) at about 29min. SEDIV favorite Flip Groggins (I forget which Region he belonged to) at 37min.
And of course..all the ads. Aamco says they do manuals, too. "Harlem Nights" might have been a cool movie, and Chebby promises your car will still be shiny whether you wax it or not.
All in all, great vid that shows just how cool it was (and still is) to go to The Runoffs. If you're close to Daytona this year, and got a couple of bucks to throw at some tix, go check it out!

I was working F&C at T 12 when the 48 went off driver’s right. We weren’t sure what fire bottle that flew out was at first. Good times!

I have the RX7 tube frame chassis that Marsha Mason used to drive. It was built by Michael Lewis(GT3 Champ).

+Peter Mayer, Oh, man!! I forgot to mention On Track!! Meant to do so when I was talking about the ads, I just blanked out, I guess. Autoweek on steroids.."We don't need no stinkin' street car coverage!". I've still got the issue where they reported that Senna won his third WDC.

Hey, it was Prime Network's decision..definitely not mine. Stevan Davis is a friend of mine, and I'm acquainted with Donnie Isley and Lisa Noble (unfortunately, just in the past year or so, never got to really meet Bill).

We knew your Dad. Always at the front of the SV pack. I lived just a few miles from your place on Macland Rd.
Joe Kent and I were partners in the #32 SSGT car which was brand new for the Runoffs that year. Regrettably we too broke an axle a few months later at AMS and destroyed the car.
