- Montreal Canadiens met with NHL prospects at NHL Draft Combine.
Who are trade targets for the Montreal Canadiens at or before the 2024 NHL Entry Draft?
Is Habs prospect Filip Mesar Underrated?

I totally agree. There is a lot of decent talent styles available at #5. I think that I would put the crafty stick with reach over power forward with a "HEAVY" shot. I don't recall a lot of wingers running over D men scoring in these playoffs.
I think puck smarts and compete level is the future
Great show today! Best l have seen in a while.
Nice podcast guys, entertaining and informative
"Having good hockey sense is very important. Many players who have been picked in the first round have had no impact on their teams because they lack hockey sense. The Canadiens are going to have a good player at number five. They do not need to make a trade."
You are right, hockey sense, size and character is freaking the most important
i dig it drew, i rather habs move up in the draft than trade for a necas or zegras. we can probably get kakko for cheap.
ARGHHHH Hughes neeeeeeeds to get another top 10 pick!!!! Such good forwards we can use!! Imagine 2 of Demidov/Lindstrom/Iginla/Sennecke/Catton/Eiserman?!?!? Who cares what it costs? We have more than enough prospects!! Monty, 26th and 2 1sts next year for 10th....Skinner is goaltending in the finals. Good goalies are easy enough to find if there is a good team in front of them.
Trade Caufeld to Utah at 6th pick... and get a large SOB forward like Lindstrom or Sennecke at 6 pick ... You get Demidov or Iginla at 5 th pick ...
Great coverage men
I like your duo.
The choices @ #5 IMO, in no particular order, Lindstrom, Iginla, Demidov, and Sennecke (I give full credit to ex-Mtl scout G. Mccagg for spotlighting this player). I feel if Lindstrom&Demidov are gone by #5, Sennecke is Mtl's guy...maybe even over Lindstrom (long term health concerns?) and altho I'm hoping for Demidov at #5 (every successful team has a Demidov type player), he might not be Mtl's choice (character or any other red flags but if he drops and Mtl does not select him, trust Bobrov and co. knowing something we do not). As for the possibility of a D-man being selected at #5...never say never esp if Mtl decides to trade a Dman or 2 but expect fans and some/most? media will let the Habs know their displeasure. As for trades, I do not expect any draft positional trades re:#5 pick. I think they would love to move up their #26 pick but not having their own 2nd round pick hurts that possibility. Every year is always the same, lots of smoke but that's all it is bc media love to talk about rumours and we fans eat it up. I also do not expect to see HuGo make any Dach/Newhook like trades...they are shooting higher and Plan A is to make substantial moves that speed up the "rebuild" and push this Mtl group to a higher level. If Plan A,B,C do not pan out, and if they can move expendable players&picks to get another good young prospect, then I would not be surprised. But I truly believe HuGo priority is to add a substantial player to their team...not another young prospect. I also expect to see Mtl make some minor deals to prepare their Laval roster. As high as most are on Hutson, I am more on the let's wait and see mode. He is high skill high reward but my concern is he needs to be more than just a one-dimensional player or else his deficiencies and defensive play will overpower his offensive abilities...this is the same concern, altho to a lesser degree, with Caufield. What will be will be! Go Habs Go!
Habs to trade Caulfield for more size and grit.... Habs should trade Caulfield for the 6th pick with Utah... Utah would be very happy to have an American so-called goal-scorer.... And they could afford the 8 million dollar cap hit
@@FooFahFoeFum Not sure I would give up on Caufield just yet. He is someone who will help you get into the playoffs...but I'm interested to see if Caufield can evolve his game AND I want to see what he can bring in playoff games before saying we should move him or not. Appreciate your response,
@@daveh1180 ok ....but hear this hear this .... To be successful in the NHL smaller players .... must Be extremely strong ..... Must be extremely fast ..... Must be extremely fearless ..... Caulfield is none of these .... He is not y. cornayer ... He is not Marchand ... He is not p. Kane
We have to get bigger and grittier and this draft is perfect for that but we need another pick. We Need NJ 10th for assets. I would go all out for 10 even Guhle but wud want Matheson and a goalie not Fowler and a small prospect forward
Wud even trade for Markstrom to use
if habs can leave the draft with kakko, kaliyev one of demidov/lindstrom/iginla + catton/senecke and or kent johnson....we will be absolutely set.
kaliyev for harris -
kakko for avs 2nd + 2025 2nd
habs move up to 10, 11, or 12 for a pick 3 of (struble, savard, winnipeg 1st, montembaut, mailloux)
same choice as above for kent johnson
I agree we need to look at moving players that may not be part of our future in some pkg deals.
I don't see Mesar as a middle 6 player, i see him in a first line scenario playing with the best goal scorers of the team. His zone entries are NHL level, his vision and playmaking ability are only matched by the best out there.
I see Slaf - Demidov - Messar being a top line that will produce at an elite level and then have Dach - Suzuki - Cole as the second line.
Mesar could have literally twice as many points if it wasn't for his AHL ceiling teammates he played with in the OHL... look at his WJC perfomance and playoffs.
People just see the NHL regular season numbers and make false assumptions on his behalf
We fall in love with our prospects in MTL way too quickly because sometimes, we overate them. I was one of them. They can't ALL make it. I like Mesar too but will his play translate to the NHL as a top 6 fwd? Hard to say. Im not quite convinced and neither am i for Farrell. I like the way Snake Boivert analyzes players and ive learned a lot from him on his podcast. Mesar will have to prove it in the minors though before making it in the NHL. One thing is for sure, i really trust this management's decision-making. I like to see them trade Mesar for size. If Mesar is as valuable as Drew thinks he is, he should be able to fetch us some thing decent even if it's in a package trade.
I would like to see the Habs trade for size.... And can intimidate the opponents..
To me Caufield is way over rated ... He does not go to the crease when 5
on 5..... He does not hit anyone... He falls down a lot... he can never play third or fourth line and check..... He cannot play the PK.... So he's limited as to where he can play and when....
I suggest you two to read Arpon Basu's last article about the combine and what he learned while being there this week. Interesting piece.
Seems like Lindstrom is habs guy, then Demidov and if both aren't available they will turn to a defenseman, he named Buium and Parekh.
I’m not subscribed to the athletic or I would. Thanks for the info though.
@@DrewDekes this is just Basu’s opinion there is actually no solid info that Kent Hughes said that… It is just what he believes.
@tylerlussier1896 No one has any insight on what the Canadiens are going to do. It's all opinions and content driven fantasy
Indeed, Montreal is very good at hiding what they will do...as what they did at the last two drafts. So at this coming draft, I will just relax and see what they will do instead of being all worked up. They know a lot more than me anyway... !!!
Arpon is not a psychic.... Habs are targetting sennecke imo
mesar is a complimentary piece like drouin .he has shown talent playing top 6. hopefully his situation in jr fixes itself and he plays top 6. he is not a play driver ,but we already know he has chemistry with slafkovski .so it is not a wasted pick imo . he is a project .
Drouin has really bounced back well in Colorado thanks to his good buddy McKinnon. Your surrounding can do wonders to put you back on track and this is what we saw last season. Hopefully he remains in Colorado and does not get influenced by the sirens of a better contract elsewhere.
Shayne Rules!
Some draft conversations I would be willing to entertain is Matheson to nj for the 10th pick for sennecke or mercer, or Matheson to Winnipeg for perfetti. Both teams should be playing these players on the second line but don't have the space but have weak defense. These are the reasons I would see what it would take to let go of these future star players
Gimme another Newfie on the Habs! Not sure how willing they would be to trade him but the numbers Matheson put up last year would be a good selling point.
Sennecke would be a great pick as well.
Montreal Canadiens will draft
Becket Sennecke
That’s what I’m saying. I think they trade down though and acquire a second
Sennecke will look like dach
June 18-23 is the Milstein showcsae date
Zegras is $5.75m while Catton, Lindstrom or Sennecke is $1m for next 3 years. If it doesn't work out it's our judgement. lets say we have pick 5 + 26 and Matheson 30 year old $4.5m and 3 years down the road and value NOW! D is strong so we can offer bait so we can get at least 2 of Catton, Lindstrom, or Sennecke. balanced lineup- Suzuki, Caulfield, Catton, Dach, Slaf, and Mesar, Newhook, Roy, Lindstrom, and the best 4th line in decades of Beck, Evans and Armia. They can score and shut down the best!
Kapanen will be NHL as well!
Florian Xhekaj
Catton is a shrimp... Montreal already has their quota
of shrimps ... Hives management is looking for size ... that's why they got slav ... why they got dach ..
that's why they got Ryanbecker
Keep nobody under 6 foot nothing ... Too many smurfs with the habs now...
Forget Catton, we don't need another smurf.
I don't like time because it makes me over think and change my mind too often.
I am going back to my original thought processes.
1 Demidov
2Parehk
3Lindstrom
4 Dickinson
5 too many to list that is it that is all those top 4 names are th eguys I want and you could say that I would make moves to acquire another first round pick and NOT trade any picks away.
I should not be hearing any nonsnse about RFA's that is a topic for teams that are legit contenders and the Habs are NOT that team.
alright ill do a second comment . how about the habs trade down with boofalo . lets say the sabers need a rhd like the habs do . want levshunov ,would be willing to give up a guy like jack quinn to get him ...then the habs coule get quinn and draft eiserman thats in boston where gorton and hughes likes his players ...?
or PAREKH!
gohabsgo
The Ducks take Lindstorm at 3
you have to listen Gladiator Hans Zimmer of the bands of HM ROYAL MARINES
38:48 😂 Google presenting Drew with things he likes -> oops, I'll shut that down 😂😂😂😂
in the final 14 players were drafted in 2014
Mesar a top prospect ? No way Drew ! He's not tall enough nor is he near decisive/elusive enough to compensate for it. A shame really cause he's got plenty of talent where it counts otherwise , but you can't have him on top of having Caufield and a couple other slightly undersized players in the lineup and call the team a contender. It simply cannot work.
The one forgotten prospect in that list is Adam Engström.
We need to draft BIG players ... that's what you need in the playoffs.
The Panthers are the model to follow ... the smurf tradition in Montreal needs to come to an end once and for all.
PS: Stay away from Zegras.
The player i would like to see the Habs acquire would be 26 year old jordan kyrou. He has size, skates well, can score and just turned 26. The Blues are in need of puckmoving smooth skating dmen. I would trade guhle and harris and the calgary 1st rder in 2025. What do you guys think?
He is signed until 2030 for more than Necas is asking for on his new deal with either carolina or another team…I also wouldn’t pay that price for him either. Not the kind of deal this management would make. It’s an attempt to rush the rebuild when at this point it’s not necessary. They’ll be more crafty to address their needs, that I believe fully…
I think Heineman should be top ten…
I think the combine is over hype.. stupid question .. physical test thats not equal for everybody.. its like overpower everything.. marketing i find its more of it .. there teenagers.. .. whatever they say at combine mai change in long run with money and stuff ..
Hawks trade 2 to Habs for 5 and 26. Demetov becomes a Hab. Hawks take Inigla.
Habs already have enough shrimp cocktails
Catton is a shrimp
Hawks are not trading their pick ... you can bank on that.
filip mesar is defintley a bust, he is pretty much at this point trade fodder to acquire a better player as he still has pedigree
And Beck should be higher than Fowler….
I don't think that a future 1 gomaue vs. middle 6 forward
Goalie
@@ethanmonds4132 oh, you mean a future number 1 like Zach Fucale….Beck will be a Hab in a year and half….Fowler, maybe 4 to 5….
Habs should trade for Necas.
Hahahhahahahahaha
HUGE trade coming to shock every Habs fan....Hutson in a package deal for Zegras.
Nope
@@Mr_Spock512 done deal
@@user-qo1gk2kj3e Nope Nope
I like Guhle, but I'd trade him for Zegras in a heartbeat. Zegras is an exciting and dynamic top 6 fowards that we're lacking of while we have an abundance of defenceman. That's just my opinion.
lol Zegras is trash. get over it
Guhle has potential to be an elite D man, Zegras is a 20 goal middle 6.
Guhle doesn't get you Zegras
@travisdecheno5670 far better than Guhle
@@28_Spokesyou have the potential to be the biggest homer ever, elite D? 🤣 🤣
Find it fascinating that these RUclipsrs want 60+ pt players but aren’t willing to give up Guhle or Reinbacher 🤦♂️ yah this isn’t a thrift store dude for Zegras
We don't want Zegras ... too small and too soft, not playoff material so we'll pass.
I think it's safe to say the Habs will fuck the pick up and take one of the top 3 most overrated prospects at the draft in Sennecke, Parekh or Lindstrom
What makes you say that they’re overrated? What’s your professional hockey background to dispute experts (not these guys) about what they’ve decided on after researching each player thoroughly?
Another self proclaimed scout that hasnt watched one full game of any of these guys.
Im not sure tbe Habs trade that 26th pick. I believe there will be a forward better than Mesar with that pick.
They should keep pick and go for Surin if still around. We have to pick players with high ceiling. I know it’s a gamble but why play safe
