- Coming up with your own ideas for gifts that a woodworker, craft person, or DIY 'er would actually want and use is hard. Especially if you are on a budget. Here are a dozen ideas plus a bonus that woodworkers like me would love and use.
ERROR IN VIDEO: I misspoke in that Lee Valley bought Hock Tools not Lie-Nielsen. I have no excuse as I wrote a blog post on this purchase a few months ago. Clueless why I made that mistake.

Silky Bigboy is also fantastic. Haven't brought an axe with me for years.
Great ideas, thank you 👍
I’m just planning some hardwood end grain right now that is a bit stubborn, I’m going to try some alcohol on it.
Another idea for an inexpensive, but superb, gift is a tape dispenser for blue tape. Only yesterday I caught my finger with a plane blade and I was able to dispense some blue tape right away with one hand to close up the wound instantly. Of course it comes in handy for other tasks too 😂
Thoughtful and useful list! I hadn’t heard of some of those. I like the Silky saw. My dear grandkids have donated my other saws to the forest floor and I need one!
That door knob screwdriver has been in my list for a long time. So cool
Very helpful for those of us who have trouble coming up with hints to give the family.
Add some lemon zest to that EverClear and everything will smell lemony fresh.
Or concoct yer own Limoncello. Even better!
THANK YOU for the excellent-and affordable-gift suggestions!
An excellent list of useful affordable items. Also an excellent video as always, keep up the good work.
Many of those are spot on in my shop, but I already have them :^) I can always use more leather scraps!
I have a folding pruning saw for pruning or taking along in the truck as you mentioned, but unless things have changed, Silky is actually one of the expensive brands. I got a Corona to replace an old wooden Corona that I lost and am happy with it.,
Silky is premium because of the blade.
All interesting gift ideas, glad to see a short to the point video. Im probably like a lot of you tubers. I watch more shorts these days. I still watch full length vids for reference.
Thumbs up.
Some cool and useful items in there--bonus that they are inexpensive also!
I go to a tarp making shop to buy my leather. They sell scraps for a fraction of what someone like Tandy would
Excellent content as always.
Thanks n happy holidays to ya'll as well
Makes me want them all! Very nice presentation. Do I need them all, nope, but would be so nice. - An intermittent woodworker appreciates this!
Agree. Good info. thanks
Great ideas. Thanks for sharing
What a great video!
Thanks for sharing 😊
with the leather scraps give them a set a punches. then they can punch circles to use as pads for set screws since those always go missing.
Thanks for an honest woodworking list. I never used alcohol on end grain, but I'll try it tomorrow. How's the mandolin coming?
That's a far in the future project.
Good video, but I would love for you to do some more woodturning videos. thankyou
There are 77+ turning videos on my channel. Surely you haven't seen em all.
Thanks - Hock was bought by Lee Valley not Lie Neilsen - they are now available on their website
As noted in description.
Paul Sellers gas video on sharpening a pair of scissors
I'm sorry I'm watching this so late, but would the handheld sharpening stone be useful for kitchen knives? Or if not, what's your solution for that?
A knife’s a knife.
@@wortheffort Ok - and I made the comment before I saw the other sharpener you mentioned that you use for your pocket knife, so I ordered one of those to give it a shot. Thanks for the suggestions!
You mentioned Harley do you get to ROT
Rally’s like that aren’t that enjoyable to me. Worked in industry for 14 years. I’ve had enough. Always the same.
Why grain alcohol rather than denatured?
No dryers (poison) about same price.
i think you can also use isopropyl 99% in some cases (eg shellac). Canadians have access to ethanol with a less toxic agent to prevent consumption (but nowhere near as bad as what's in denatured alcohol)
!
?
I really like to see a vid from you on how to sharpen the slod knifes. I was never able to get it right on my first one and pretty sure I ruined it.
Not begrudging you or anyone else, because Amazon is very convenient, it’s just that buying from them is essentially giving them your soul a little piece at a time.
Don’t be rude on this channel.
@@wortheffort I’ll use your links next time I buy something from Amazon.
Cool list, the audio was rough and grainy on this one though.
