After pondering, I am powerless over striving to have people like me. It is the root of all my worst decisions. And yes, there have been very lonely times at church, or in certain Christian circles. BUT NOT HERE! Thank you!
The incident with the answering machine SO perfectly illustrates the intensity of the shame I have felt and lived in and relived in my 45 plus years of active addictiin and alcoholism, before starting in earnest the 12 Step Program almost 3 years ago. Regretably (and thankfully), there is no "unsend" on this decades long and persistant POWERLESSNESS AND UNMANAGEABILITY. Can't wait to get to the "He Can. I think I'll let Him" part. And then the "Clean House, Trust God, Help others" part. Thank you John and Become New.
Why are AA/CR meetings and 12 step groups so powerful? Vulnerability. Vulnerability. Vulnerability. Thank you John for modeling it. The church needs pastors willing to model vulnerability
Hello David, Vulnerability is indeed a foundational staple of Alcoholics Anonymous and Celebrate Recovery. To be in a safe space, surrounded by others on similar journeys where there is no judgement - with a focus and reliance on God's power rather than self defeating power - fosters an atmosphere of new found peace where you are motivated to keep showing up and dedicate yourself to do the work. Why? Because it works. Thanks for sharing David. Bucky

You may not be able to see my face while I listen to you but I definitely talk to you while I listen ☺ And say “yes”; and “no”; and sometimes “how do you know that about me?”. And I am blessed to be part of a fellowship where I am able to confess my sins and still be loved, not by everyone but enough.
