@@titanpreparedness I'm on solar and wind, but I also have what I call a prepper shed, the shed does everything my home does but small scale, I charge all my batteries there, The shed is there to increase my off grid capabilities, I can weld with Three 320w solar panels, this is practically impossible, but I figured it out , I recently fixed 3 gardening tools off grid adding metal handles to make them indestructible, I weld with a Dewalt power station and a small century wire welder.
The Midland I bought from Walmart I could not charge with the solar panel and I wasn’t going about to try another only to find it had the same problem. I bought this about two months ago and returned it right away. So regardless of either one make sure you test out it’s ability to re-charge by the solar thing.
Some times you get unlucky and get a bad item. I didnt keep the midland long enough to test for weeks. The running snail sits in my window seal hasnt been on a charger in months. It runs a few hours a week. Thanks for watching. Make sure you subscribe
The Titan Preparedness Channel Instead of using the light off the radio just have a small light to use to hang off the radio at least you’ll have it with the radio if that’s even necessary.
We just got our power back yesterday after a week of no power thanks to Hurricane Ida. The Midland radio is fine as far as that goes, but as for the solar and hand crank charging options they are useless.
Darn. I knew the crank option was terrible but i was hoping the solar would be more of a benefit. Guess it just maintains the charge. I didnt have much time with the one i reviewed.
@@titanpreparedness I'm not gonna toss it or anything, but I think what I'm going to do is get a few good quality spare 18650 batteries and make sure those are charged next time we have a storm threat. It ran for a good long while on the included battery. But no matter how much I cranked it or let it sit in direct sunlight I just couldn't get the charge indicator to move.
I love the Midland radio rather than the running snail. It has a effective flashlight. The screen display is useful to keep track of time which is important if power is out and the weather channel says something like "heavy precipitation at 3pm". Display also useful to see the battery capacity. Bad thing about it is the antenna which you mentioned in your review video. Its fragile and might snap if your drop it whilst the antenna is all out. Great video!!!!😊

Very good information and kudos to you for taking care of your grandmother’s needs.
Thank you!
I use a Dewalt radio today, but I love the small Sony radio, 2 AA batteries lasted 40 hours, I still have one just incase.
40 hrs isnt bad at all and im guessing you have some type of recharging method set up for it or the batteries

Try the katio 500L. That is very good.
I have the Running Snail and a Kaito KA500 wonder how the Kaito compares - in your opinion
never used it but heard pretty good things. a bit bulky for a bag but would be good at home
Good review, my friend. Thanks

Good review. I prefer the Midland.
What do you prefer on the Midland that puts it over other radios
@@titanpreparedness Ty, Midland has been making weather radios from the start. It's size an build quality.
Well that makes sense. They are very well made products

The light situation is easily mitigated by having an Olight type small light hanging off the Running Snail radio.
Not quite sure i understand

@@Writerdust totally agree with that.

Might want to get a stand along solar panel. It would do good for not just charging the radio but cellphones and such. A good 13-28watt would be great
The Midland radio doesn’t just go straight out. Pull it out all the way. The antenna pulls out the same way as the RunningSnell.
Someone else was explaining that to me as well. I didn't get much time to mess with the radio
cool comparison video! Keep it up!
Thanks for watching.
