bas rutten is a fooking absolute legend when it comes to fighting! nevermind MMA or UFC but the overall techniques orf any kind of fighting nd not just sport fighting
Bas Rutten is probably my favourite fighter from all sports, infact probably my all time favourite sports star. He has such a great personality and a great sense of humour. His DVDs kick ass, and hes one hell of a fighter. he always gives great respect where its due. The only reason i wanted kimbo to win that fight was becaus I didnt want to be embaressed for Bas. Ahwell, it was out his hands and into Seth's. Seth's a cool guy but some of his comments were probably due to the hype around kimbo.
you are completetly right my friend, even bas said so, kimbo is still learning, is just a tough guy, with backyard fights, Elite used him to marketed they self
Hope this helps! Well it is just physics, or more precisely, momentum. If you land a jab on someone who is moving backwards it will only sting, but if you move into a punch the force exerted is increased. Concussion is an effect of the skull moving quickly causing the brain to get 'squashed' against it. So if the skull is moving forwards, so is the brain, and when the skull is pushed backwards the force on the brain will be more than if you were moving in the same direction as the punch.
Bas has stated that he didn't take any payment to train Kimbo..and that in the beginning Kimbo had potential was hungry, trained hard and was focused, then something changed (money) i guess, and kimbo slacked off...
I think he (Bas) just sticks to what he is good at, or more importantly he has exposed his opponents lack of skill (relative to Bas) striking. Like you said he has good timing, when I watch Bas Rutten fight it is simply beautiful (not always, but his later fights he is only getting better). Watching some fighters I'm saying "Oh, throw the knee", or "Keep your hands up", but with Bas he seems to anticipate his opponents attacks and already has the answer.
Unlike most fighters who retire, Bas has stayed busy and kept in fighting shape, so it isn't like he had 8 years of no sparring. He is an exceptional fighter and not just athlete, he has lost but everyone can lose, he learnt from those losses. Some say you can learn more from a loss than a win. It is only a mistake if you don't learn from your error and keep repeating the mistake later.
Kimbo has a natural ability with his fist he could easily make it to the heavyweight ranks of boxing. MMA he wasn't so quick to he is too big and bulky to submit people, which is why you don't see a lot of heavyweight MMA fighters use neraly as much submissions as you do lighter weight MMA fighters for that every reason.
i think his right they should of given kimbo more time to gain experience in the game, is kind of what happen to Brock when he was set up with frank mir
It was a big mistake having Kimbo on the main-event card. The guy doesn't have that much experience. He should have had a few fights just to get some experience and then MUCH later, fight against top fighters.
Bas Rutten is a true gentleman. its true that they should let kimbo fight as an undercard and let him developed. Jake Shields or Robbie Lawler in my opinion should've been the main event in some of the events like lawler did when he defended his middleweight championship. I think people are what bas said, trying to make them into superstars. MMA is kind of lacking to the people who are casual viewers who r not MMA crazy fans. Bas should earn several kudos for what he is saying in this interview
"...Let him get into the groove...Let him start fighting bigger and better opponents." Words from the master. I agree with Bas. There are better fighters out there at this time than Kimbo.
I know it was stupid of EliteXC to have Kimbo as the main event, but you got to understand EliteXC's situation. They were on a downward spiral and on the verge of bankruptcy. They needed something to attract a crowd and that something was this famous street fighter named Kimbo. Unfortunately when Kimbo loss, EliteXC's final hopes came crashing down.
First off Bas is not only a top fighter but trainer as well! I saw footage of Bas training Kimbo and it was perfection. Problem is we can all jude but until you get in the ring with thousands of people watching it's a different story. Also lets be honest you can have the greatest trainer but ulimatley it comes to the fighter Bas could only do so much.
@cyberhmoob Ohh and did i forget to mention he had quite a good run at muay thai fights too? 14-2 and won all of his 14 wins by KO most of wich in first round?
Everything Bas Rutten said was accurate. Everyone hype Kimbo into being the best when Kimbo admits himself he is new to this. And then despite of this all the Kimbo haters want to put him down still and pit him against champs like Brock Lesnar to raise the chances of him getting beat. People like that annoys me to the fullest. He just want to fight and gain experience atm. Leave him be.
that is true but the whole point of wearing a 14 oz glove is to slow your hands down to make it more difficult to knock the head back as fast also the wrap and glove are there to protect the hand theoretically if your punch was as fast with the glove on as without the glove would actually increase the chance of knockout but the whole idea of a ko is to shift the brain inside the head causeing a concussion or displace the brain stem slowing the hands reduces this chance alot
Just because Liddell has lost his last couple of fights does not mean he is done. He may retire but I doubt it. If he retires it will be from the UFC. and No that will not be a good draw. Even Liddell at his current prime will rock Kimbo. Come on man. My grandpa not as his prime could rock kimbo.
Yeah but the big diffrence between Kimbo and Brock is that regardless of brock's prior inexperience in MMA, having been a great amateur wrestler with great credentials, meant that he already had a headstart as we now amateur wrestling is apart of the cross training needed to be a success in MMA, where as Kimbo didnt have any of that. So in saying that Kimbo has done pretty well considering his disadvantages
and extreme couture. Bas and Kimbo have access to everything and anything they have to offer. I'm not 100% who is standup coach is but you believe he is a great one.
@vOnStRaUsEn1 What I meant was kimbo hadn't trained for petrucelli, ll that time he spent training wasn't for petrucelli...I saw petrucelli fight when he was a K-1 champion, he's no slouch....so Kimbo was at a disadvantage to a pretty good all around striker, and he had worked a lil more on his ground game for this fight...he asked for more money when he found out he was fighting petrucelli
Bas is an awesome guy. A great fighter and a stand up dude. If Kimbo listens to him emphatically, he will still be a threat, but he needs to take fights with fighters of equal caliber. No more "gimme" matches. Stop protecting his image and let him do his thing. I'm positive he could handle himself
Mano, i can tell that you are a TRUE fight fan & you know bullshit when you here it. I've said for MONTHS that Kimbo is a TRUE toughman fighter. With time, he could probably transform into a mma fighter, but ONLY if he's giving the PROPER time & training allowed that other fighters are given. The way people have turned against him after 1 freakin defeat shows that MOST fans don't know crap about the fight game, boxing or mma. Personally, i would LOVE him fight in a toughtman contest. Thoughts?
Some people have it and some people don't MMA isn't for everyone, just like any other sport. Kimbo would be a lot more suited in boxing imo then in MMA.
Yeah, that's something that impresses me about Bas, If it wasn't for his knee injury, he'd probably be competing in some MMA organization right now (and winning too :D) And on top of all his fighting greatness, he's hilarious. He's definitely one of my favorite fighters.
i feel soo bad for kimbo and bas. bas does speak the truth and its so depressing how things had to be like this. kimbo does not deserve this shit. the only thing that was wrong was bas forgot to teach kimbo how to keep his chin down. but i hope kimbo makes a comback and get what he deserves, same goes for bas
Bas would be damn good in the ufc. he was always in phenominal shape. he dont have the best ground defence but his striking is amazingly accurate and powerful. when bas first entered the UFC he was scheduled to fight randy for the heavy weight title and randy dropped out of the UFC to sign with another organization that means somthin. Instead he beat somone else for the tilte with only 1 UFC fight under his belt. u underestimate the el guapo. Total proffessional fight record W44 -- L6
Very true. It would be painful, but the strongest fighters, I imagine, would not be stopped by broken bones, unless it was like that Thai boxer on the video who broke his leg, which started flopping around as he fell to the canvas. Someone like Fedor would probably be more determined to finish his opponent if they broke one of his bones. He's a Terminator
IFL champion. Roy paced himself throughout the fights, that's clear., he looked for the easiest way to beat Kimbo and he took it. I'd do the same, if I knew someone had zero ground game I'd take it to the ground. The Dude won TUF for a reason, Roy's gonna be a solid UFC fighter maybe not champ but a tough competitor.
he didnt do much in the UFC, he came into it quite late in his career. I see him as a good fighter but I just havent seen anything from him that suggest to me hes exceptional..just my opinion.
I agree with you that Bas is an exceptional fighter. However, there are some weaknesses. Mainly he's lacking in takedowns. Also, I would train someone to take advantage of his open stance with front kicks (as offense) and turning back kicks (as counters) and to really work on quick in and out footwork (kind of like Karate how Lyoto Machida does). However, Bas would be one of the hardest to take advantage of because he's a really smart fighter and has exceptional timing (and power!)
If Kimbo gets back up and continues fighting, all of my respect will be regained(as if it matters to anyone). We all lose something on our way up, and there is never truly a top position anyways as everything always changes
I will put money on that Bas Rutten told kimbo not to stalk Seth and he did anyway. I think he was trained well and he was instructed well by his corner and he didn't listen anyway.
i think kimbos a joke but when u really think about it u gotta admire it from the streets, and now training to fight im pretty sure he trains hard and i respect that
Bob Sapp's big, but that doesn't mean he can take abuse. Not that Cro-Cop isn't strong, but he made Bob Sapp fall to the ground and start crying(literally) with one well-placed punch to the jaw, just in case you haven't seen it before. I'm also not trying to discredit how hard Seth can hit though. I've never felt one of his punches
Yea, it's almost never a good idea to rush in. Aside from the general downsides, if you're hit while moving in, it just makes whatever hit you that much stronger. That is to say, getting punched in the stomach is crap. But if you're moving forward and eat a cross to the stomach, that one might put you down, even if it's thrown weaker.
true but kimbo never tries to do anything else and you heard bas say it after all of kimbos fights we trained for stand up just this one time they trained for the ground and thats cause he was fighting shamrock he should always be on the ground in the gym and he could use some real boxing skills as well his punches are sloppy he never shows signs of improvement
I love how "real" Bas is, that's why he's my favourite fighter.
Not a huge MMA fan, but he's a likeable guy.
He is an amazing guy.
bas rutten is a fooking absolute legend when it comes to fighting! nevermind MMA or UFC but the overall techniques orf any kind of fighting nd not just sport fighting

bas hit the nail on the head with this interview.
I love Bas's accent
See what I'm doing?? BOOM!!!!!!! That's a left elbow RIGHT THERE!
Hope this helps! Well it is just physics, or more precisely, momentum.
If you land a jab on someone who is moving backwards it will only sting, but if you move into a punch the force exerted is increased.

Bas Rutten, alpha as fuck as always
Bas has stated that he didn't take any payment to train Kimbo..and that in the beginning Kimbo had potential was hungry, trained hard and was focused, then something changed (money) i guess, and kimbo slacked off...
I think he (Bas) just sticks to what he is good at, or more importantly he has exposed his opponents lack of skill (relative to Bas) striking. Like you said he has good timing, when I watch Bas Rutten fight it is simply beautiful (not always, but his later fights he is only getting better).

@WinkyMaeve very true and well said!
Bas uses a Samuel L Jackson line from Pulp Fiction...at the end he says I thought everything was Kool n the Gang...what a witty dude
I totally agree.
It is only a mistake if you don't learn from your error and keep repeating the mistake later.
i been wondering what bas thought about all this...hes right about the main event fighting started too soon
Bas Rutten is a legend and one of a kind. Accept no substitutes.
Bas is a man from the ground up. Serious bad ass - and a 100% class act. Total respect
lol the only reason I don't hate Kimbo now is because I found out he's being trained by Bas Rutten.
@senturkerhan1, what is wrong with dutch fighters? I'm dutch and they are pretty good fighters
It's always funny to hear Bas Rutten's German accent.
i think his right they should of given kimbo more time to gain experience in the game, is kind of what happen to Brock when he was set up with frank mir
that would be awesome
What´s the last question?? I can´t hear it well.
haha yeah agree, discussing mma with someone who havent heard about bas rutten is just silly:p
It was a big mistake having Kimbo on the main-event card. The guy doesn't have that much experience. He should have had a few fights just to get some experience and then MUCH later, fight against top fighters.
Bas is a typical Dutchman, says it as it is ,no BS
Bas Rutten is a monster!!!! He's definitely a legend
Bas Rutten is a true gentleman. its true that they should let kimbo fight as an undercard and let him developed. The Anker punch.

bas rutten is definitely a mma legend and he was a monster was!!!!
I totally agree, I can't understand the hype surrounding Kimbo.
couldnt say that better
I believe Kimbo now trains with American Top Team.

Bassito is just working man.
well mirko did brake sapp's orbital bone, which I'd imagine would be quite painfull.
i hope Kimbo sticks with it and gets better!
Kimbo is good in boxing and thats the way he should go.
Bas is the man what ever he says is right!
Yeah, that's something that impresses me about Bas, If it wasn't for his knee injury, he'd probably be competing in some MMA organization right now (and winning too :D)

kimbo does not deserve this shit.
the only thing that was wrong was bas forgot to teach kimbo how to keep his chin down.
but i hope kimbo makes a comback and get what he deserves, same goes for bas
Yeah. That's true. Your speed does decrease with those huge boxing gloves. :D
The Dutch seem to churn out some very good fighters.
Bas says Kool and the Gang like the band that shit is funny
Bas would be damn good in the ufc. he was always in phenominal shape. he dont have the best ground defence but his striking is amazingly accurate and powerful. when bas first entered the UFC he was scheduled to fight randy for the heavy weight title and randy dropped out of the UFC to sign with another organization that means somthin. what happened to bas' knee's? Because I've heard something bout it but don't know what
No more cartilage on the front of his knees now. Tendinitis also
@Kumarix ok agreed
Yes He Is
I love this guy.. From Back when he use to ko dudes with a right slap on ze face😁
i was replying to xxvalkytxx, im not sayin bas isnt a great fighter, but
he did lose to ken twice
whats wrong with dutch?
If I shook bas rutten's hand, I would never wash my hand EVEEEERRR AGAAAAIIINN.
he didnt do much in the UFC, he came into it quite late in his career. I see him as a good fighter but I just havent seen anything from him that suggest to me hes exceptional..just my opinion.
Kimbo + hype = money, can't blame Bas.
he lives in California but he's from Holand. Bas hasn't been back to Holand in years.
that seth dude beat dan savern and hes no joke
I agree with you that Bas is an exceptional fighter. However, there are some weaknesses. Mainly he's lacking in takedowns. u were at the actual event??
you mean completely
I will put money on that Bas Rutten told kimbo not to stalk Seth and he did anyway. I think he was trained well and he was instructed well by his corner and he didn't listen anyway.
You don't KNOW what you were watching. The guy is a black belt in brazillian jiu jitsu, and has beaten frank mir in a grappling.
wow next time i make a mistake i should bas to cover for me
Kimbo got a DANGETY-DANGETY-DANGGGED!!!
DONT YOU EVAAER DOOO DIIISSS!!
Yeah but brock was also a ncaa amateur wrestling champion prior to being involved with pro wrestling
i think kimbos a joke
but when u really think about it u gotta admire it
from the streets, and now training to fight
im pretty sure he trains hard and i respect that
Does Bas still train Kimbo??
Why?
yeah i agree all mike knows how to say is " LETS GO...UFC ( whatever number) and of coure " IT IS ALL OVER!"
nobody? lol Bas is only the greatest UFC fighter of all times and certainly one of the best MMA fighter ever (back in his fighting days that is).
From 3:14 - 4:07, THE TRUTH!!!!
so glad kimbo left MMA elite, bas is to good for him!
Bob Sapp's big, but that doesn't mean he can take abuse. Not that Cro-Cop isn't strong, but he made Bob Sapp fall to the ground and start crying(literally) with one well-placed punch to the jaw, just in case you haven't seen it before. Bas Rutten for Governor!!!
Bas is just great! All he said is totally true! I espcially like the bit towards the end where he says " I am very nasty" LOL
the only real fighters at elite xc were andrei arlovski, jake shields, seth petruzelli. but gina carano's beautiful
@HairofSteel555 he trained ground because the guy he was going to fight is a ground fighter
