In our defense it would be extremely unlikely that we would offer any meaningful protest if the Germans decided that they should expand the Bundeswehr. Honestly, it would save us a great deal of money if the Germans were, for instance, to build a nuclear carrier battle group with long range land based air cover to complement it. In fact, that would be pretty outstanding, and it would certainly keep the Russians on their toes.
@@duicic8541 It certainly has, hasn't it? I was probably being very unrealistic about the carrier project but seeing €100 Billion flooding into the Bundeswehr's coffers overnight was a hell of a surprise.
@@1987CRER - not to mention the F-35s! OK, I'd rather not have had the childhood feeling die that the Cold War was over (I grew up in what would then have been WWIII's front yard), but now that we have the dough, might as well spend it on much needed items...
@@duicic8541 Honestly I'm worried as well, ICBMs don't care about trivialities like geographic barriers. But for Germany to be the commercial and military center of gravity in Europe is just the sensible option, the French and British alone can't do it. That said I think it's going to be a little awkward if Bundesheer formations end up being based in Poland. Strategically sound, but the locals have some baggage to deal with.
@@1987CRER Bundeswehr. Bundesheer is the Austrians. 🙂 Seriously, though, we'd most likely go to the Baltic; most of the German contingent of the Response Force is already in Lithuania. Which is OK; we get along splendidly (my family has roots there, too).
