I came here looking for hard. Not saying this isn't hard for a normal player, but there are Mario Maker levels harder than this. If you want to really challenging ROM hack, look for Super Mario forever, also known as Super Mario frustration. I played it back around 2008

I mean oh come on yeah just oh come on the Mario and the game might have an invincibility code turned on because it looks like the hammers go through him and is it possible that an AI could be trained to play this Mario game and figure out how to get through it with all the timing required?
I would consider this to be a slightly harder version of The Lost Levels. Would be great to see it expanded to 8 worlds. But having not actually played it for myself, I can't jump to a definite conclusion re its difficulty.

The gameplay seemed very similar to the NES, where the shells go through you the first pass so it was legit. You could even stand by the piranha plant and not get touched in the spots where the player was at. Hopefully the person that uploaded this will say where you can find these levels.
