CLIP DESCRIPTION:
The night of the Nation's Pride premier, Shosanna (Mélanie Laurent) tidies up all the little details to exact revenge, and dons her war paint.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
A group of hardened Nazi killers stalk their prey in Nazi-occupied France as a Jewish cinema owner plots to take down top-ranking SS officers during the official premiere of a high-profile German propaganda film. As far as Lt. Aldo Raine (aka Aldo the Apache," Brad Pitt) -- is concerned, the only good Nazi is a dead Nazi. Raine's mission is to strike fear into the heart of Adolf Hitler by brutally murdering as many goose-steppers as possible, or die trying. In order to accomplish that goal, Lt. Raine recruits a ruthless team of cold-blooded killers known as "The Basterds" which includes baseball-bat-wielding Bostonian Sgt. Donnie Donowitz (aka "The Bear Jew," Eli Roth) and steely psychopath Sgt. Hugo Stiglitz (Til Schweiger), among others. When the Basterds' secret rendezvous with turncoat German actress Bridget von Hammersmark (Diane Kruger) goes awry, they learn that the Nazis will be staging the French premiere of "The Nation's Pride," a rousing propaganda film based on the exploits of German hero Fredrick Zoller (Daniel Brühl), at a modest theater owned by Jewish cinephile Shoshanna Dreyfus (Mélanie Laurent), posing as a Gentile after the brutal murder of her family by the ruthless Col. Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz). As the Basterds hatch an explosive plan to take out as many Nazis as possible at the premiere, they remain completely oblivious to the fact that Shoshanna, too, longs to bring the Third Reich to its knees, and that she's willing to sacrifice her beloved theater in the process.

Even in a World War II period piece, Tarantino can't resist using 70s or 80s music
Tell me it didn't fit, though.
@@Slop_Dog well, it didn't
Jon H it did though strangely in all of his movies (the ones not based in the 70’s lol) it shouldn’t fit not one bit but it does lol
@@dtcarpediem especially the one when they carved a swastika in that soldiers head
This song was written for the film Cat People, but it for some reason they only used it in the end credits. Tarantino (rightfully) thought this song was awesome and deserved an awesome scene to accompany it.
This one scene is like watching a 1940's version of Kill Bill.
And it's BEAUTIFUL.
Kill bill was inspired by this character
@@bigl3242what?
@@sibidinakaran4757 Yup , all those killing scenes in kill bill and the plot was suppose to be for this character. Crazy right ?!
@@bigl3242 kill Bill came out before this movie..?
@@sibidinakaran4757 this movie script predated Kill Bill
Vengeance never looked so beautiful.
yes sir
Hell yes.
She knows it's the last night of her life so she's going out looking the best she's ever looked. In a story featuring Landa, Aldo, Bear Jew, Stiglitz, Hellstrom, Hitler, Goebbles and a host of others, it is Shosanna who is the biggest badass of them all. And none of the others has so much as a clue.
Hellstrom’s already dead in the bar scene
Hans Landa knew exactly what's going on.
@@akmd114379 I am not sure about that
You need to watch the entire scene. Shoshanna planned to escape the theatre at the beginning of the fire as her scene comes on. Unfortunately for her, she felt the need to check on Frederick wasn't quite dead yet.
@@anthonyorozco3474 you’re the only correct one here.

Bowie's song in this scene is absolutely mesmerizing.
Shoshanna is the most badass character in a Tarantino movie
Cliff from once upon a Time in Hollywood
Beatrix Kiddo
She kinda just gets strangled to death though
@@zigguratjones6458 no, thats Von Hammersmark. This is a different girl
@@PiperAtTheGatesOfYourMom Oh right, duh, Diane Kreuger. My bad.
Tarantino nailed this sequence.
He nails pretty much all sequences. Gifted man.
No better song for this then “Putting out Fire“... RIP David Bowie
RIP david bowie....
The singer of the song. (Cat People-David Bowie)
Sonny oh no
THOUGHT it was him.
From the soundtrack to the Cat People remake, originally.
@Sonny really dude
That's it.
Mélanie Laurent is my new female crush :D
really good french actrees and rude

Haile Doba wow
@@hailedoba9245 that one guy from pulp fiction right
@@momsspaghetti7729 that's Uma Thurman
This movie was 85 percent dialogue, but it was so gripping from the start. Awesome
Well in my opinion no one does dialogue like Tarantino. I'd watch a movie without any action and just filled with dialogue written by him and I'd be happy
Much better than the CGI you see today.
I thought this movie idea was completely stupid, like most of his film ideas. But when you actually watch them with an open mind they are really good to great. The only one for me I loved from the beginning idea was "Once Upon A Time . . ."
One of the best example of "Every frame's a painting"
I really like when directors treat cinema like a sort of a painting. It's very rare. Tarantino has that gift. Thats what it should be 'a moving painting'.
Personally, I would have had the wine before the lipstick instead of ruining my lipstick.
I was thinking of the same thing
The wine tastes better with the lipstick on.
It's half of a pulp fiction reference and half of a dedication to her knowing tonight she will likely die.
@BlackHunter 07 yknow, in my head I was thinking of a small white coffee cup with Mia Wallace's red lipstick lip marks on the rim, with a burning cigarette on a little white plate. Now I can't find the image online. So maybe I'm way off, but I still think thats Mia's shade of red too. Maybe just one of Tarantino's stylemarks.
Always thought of it as, she's adding a bit of "Wine Red" to her lips.
such an aesthetically beautiful scene
Tarantino’s soundtracks are always AWESOME
RIP David Bowie
“I think this just might be my masterpiece”
Best revenge preparation montage in every film and it's my #4 top movie moment of 2009! Thumbs up for this.
"I always wanted to direct an 80's music video. Ill do just that and put it in this movie set in WW 2"
LOL i found this scene hilarious. She looked so cute with that hat yelling and swearing at the man like a kid throwing a tantrum XD
GeorgeK who tf says XD
What the hell
This Jewish Girl passes for an Aryan, could've really fooled the Nazis.
When you know you gonna have a diner with god this evening, you know you have to look nice. ;)

this scene is a complete work of art
This was my first tarantino movie and this scene inspired me to watch all his movies ❤️
This scene could be just her doing the make-up and it would still be a directing masterpiece.
She looks so nice but is badass, that's what I love about her!
reminds me of Uma Thurman
jomard benemile Tarantino seems attracted to these type of women, I love it and glad he won't settle for just any pretty movie star.
Putting out fire with gasoline lol
Best female performance in the movie, by far.
When you no longer fear death. That's the scariest weapon.
blending music and movie...welldone
R.I.P Tupac
Bowie singing the theme from Cat People......awesome
2:22 I see where this is going. This was done separately so Shoshanna uses the end of the footage as a distraction for the audience as they watch the film. And it took place by the time she was already dead.
Sam Kresil not only Shoshanna, Aldo made it more intelligent
She's so frekking beautiful!
Seeing a woman load a gun like that makes me quiver in fear
I know I know…. Its bad
See these eyes so RED (Shoshanna applies the red rouge)
BRILLIANT!!
temasoo de David Bowie!!!
Melanie y David Bowie son la mejor combinación ❤
Lets Dance is a great album
This scene is just sooooooooo COOL.
I recognize this set from the Boardwalk Empire LOL
Putting blush like wariour. ❤️
Hell hath no fury like a woman who survived a massacre.
Ironically Same song played in atomic blonde
Can anyone tell me why I’m seeing so many people in this comment section hating this character?
Marcel loved that woman and had no hesitation in dying with/ for her
Tarantino is genious.
I heard this was the most iconic scene in the movie 0:01-0:26 somebody tell me why
Truly Glorious scene.
Rest in Eternal Peace David Bowie and enter the Cloudy Stadium of Eternal Rock and Roll in Heaven.
who the hell was blown out of that window after the fire/explosion? its the same window she's looking out of now, interesting, i wonder who it was... he might have lived
That's hell out of a explosion, i doubt he lived.
great movie
Not trying to make her less badass than she already is, but for those who are saying it's a suicide act, I don't think it's right. Shoshana didn't know about the bomb that the Americans were bringing in, her original plan was to actually lock the auditorium (she said in another scene with Marcel) and light it on fire, since it's just a fast fire she and Marcel would have enough time to escape the venue, since they themselves are not locked inside. Of course it's still very risky and she can lose her life if anything goes wrong. But I think it helps to understand that she is actually someone who has a strong will to live beyond the war and thus the eventual scene where she was shot by Frederick would appear even more dramatic and tragic.
Bowie left us so many gems...
This sounds like Sisters of Mercy.
Shoshanna the hottest femme fatale to grace a Tarantino movie
Controversial opinion but while the Basterds were cool, I sincerely think Shosanna should have been the main character. By far the most interesting person in the movie yet I can why she wasn't because she would be seen as just the bride 2.0 even though the bride was based on an early draft of her character.
Basada
Does anyone know the name of this soundtrack?
Cat People by David Bowie
Mélanie Laurent. One of the most fiercely beautiful women to ever bless the big screen. My oh my. Her eyes really do something to me. Diane Kruger too of course 😊❤
1:35 Isn't he the slave that smiles at last in django unchained?
Probably. Tarantino loves to cast the same actors multiple times
this film makes the allies seem like savages
+Aheadotg Yeah... if you're a Nazi.
well it does though doesn't it
as if during the war the allies didn't commit savage acts....
LMAO as if they werent "seem" Lol seem what, they were pieces of shit just like everyone else

Reminiscent of the Crow
"And remember, in English" Why, though? This makes as. little sense as Hans Landa talking to that Frech peasant in English.
Hans talked to the French farmer in English so that the Jews hiding wouldn’t realize he found out where they were.
You’re not that bright are you?
@@IgonDrakeWarrior I'm obviously not bright enough to understand why she would insist on addressing a German audience in English instead of, oh I don't know, German. The same goes for the Landa scene. Landa's mother tongue is German and a French peasant was about as likely to speak German as he was to speak English so switching to German instead of a random third language would have made so much more sense in that situation.
The way she loads that mag is so girly...
Rep0007 how does one load ammunition in a gendered way?
feminine and badass
that’s a strange thing to say. in the end, bullets kill all men the same way regardless of how it was loaded.
Well, she is a girl...
Je suis tombé pour vous Shoshanna
Moi aussi
melania laurent is absolutely gorgeous
What's this song in the beginning? I thought it was a Velvet Underground cover of Venus in Furs. The line
"I could stand for a thousand years"
is what made me think that's what it was, but the Velvet Underground song chorus says
"I could _sleep_ for a thousand years",
So yeah... Not a cover.. but it's a cool song nonetheless.
The song is Cat People by David Bowie. It actually says 'I can _stare_ for a thousand years'.
Wie heisst das Lied, dass im Hintergrund gespielt wird?
+@Brownie Cat People von David Bowie
Gyat-DAYUMN, she fine.
GYATT??? Bro is a time travel 💀
What is this song called
***** thanks m8
It’s called Putting Out Fire With Gasoline..... the theme from the movie Cat People
GREAT SISTERS OF MERCY TUNE.

I don’t like Tarantino as an individual, he’s a creep, but I must admit his work is exceptional
how is he a creep tho
@@theobsidianshvl do you not know anything about him ? Lmao

French power 🇫🇷 !!!
5/20
Why did he insist she speak English?
דפנה רייכנברג most German schools require English as a core subject so most of them know it not French though
John Silvers She planned it for like 3 days that's enough time to learn to recite a few German sentences tho. Also I kinda wanted to see the look on his face when she spent 5 minutes standing on the staircase laughing.
Because Frederick Zoller's line taunting the Allies soldiers he'd killed and asking if anyone has a message for Germany is in English.
Sounds like Puddles Pity Party. Anyone?
Was tarantino trying to portray a weak, little french girl because if he was, it was definitely a success
No
@@tvclips7679 Yes

And a Jew.
So what`s her revenge story?
Oh,never mind. I know now. Hans Landa killed her family.
I was so happy when shoshanna died.
Ok then
RIP good taste. A movie full of shit and lies.
Never heard of Historical Fiction eh
What? You mean to tell me Hitler didn't get shot to pieces in a movie theater?
Awww boo hoo
Damn I’ve been lied to, I thought Hitler was shot 60 times over by an MP40 and then blown up in a movie theater in France. Damn my whole life is a lie.
Wait... you’re telling me that there wasn’t a group of American soldiers named inglorious bastards who killed Hitler at a movie theater?
Pathetic movie
