      Hey bro, fellow vitiligo person Was able to keep most of my color used to have similar coloring to you , still have it but it's in check. Thank you Jesus. I do a bunch of things but I have found 4 things that were the most helpful. 1. Move out of the city. Too stressful. 2. Go gluten free. Reduces your inflammation, maybe it's not wheat for you but it is for a lot of people. 3. Eat red meat. You need the iron. 4. Get a light treatment lamp. It's expensive but it heals you. I do other stuff and avoid other stuff but I feel like I'm lecturing let me know if you want to know more.

      I occasionally hear about the magical black person trope and never really thought about it but I think I can see the thread that got twisted into this mess. Maybe I'm wrong, and maybe initially it was something else, probably depends on your own perspective, but the common story I see from converted racists is, when they actually had to interact with a black person or that person saved them in some way that changed their world view. So on one hand I could see the trope representing that. But this seems to be taking the negative interpretation and somehow making it worse.

    I think another that hurt the movie is that "the magical negro" is pretty much a dead trope nowadays. Hell, there were people who saw the trailer and didn't even realize it was a trope. They had no idea what they were looking at.

      Those here who are disagreeing: I get your arguments that art is supposed to make people feel comfortable but that doesn't excuse this movie for the way it goes about it's offensive approach to black people. It also doesn't give this an excuse for a movie like this fo treat black people like crap in a disrespectful manner.

    As a white person that saw this. I agree with you 100%. The whole premise felt so fucking weird. I was like how is this helping their cause again. Also I would barely call this a satire because they're constantly telling you the purpose of the movie very bluntly. American Fiction does everything this movie was trying to achieve.

    • @KennySparksYT
      @KennySparksYT  4 месяца назад +41

      Yeah there was nothing satirical about this. It was very straight forward. American Fiction is phenomenal!

    • @cgpcgp3239
      @cgpcgp3239 4 месяца назад +6

      According to the writer it was not to “help the cause.” The reaction to expectations to film and what the actual film is about his comments below seems justified.
      “Libii says he wrote the film to give a voice to his unique perspective as a biracial man living in America. While attacking the “magical Negro” trope, he says it was important to give a voice to Black men that don’t fit the stereotypes often seen in film and television. Libii and Smith joked that The American Society of Magical Negroes is an ode to the struggle of the gentle straight Black man that often is overlooked in conversations of racial bias.”

    The fact that the powers that be greenlit this BS in the 1st place should tell you how far one has to go to get authentic unique black American fiction to be taken seriously. I mean forreal I know its supposed to a cultural satire but whats truly disheartening is when you realize the movie is quite happy and content with just reinforcing its granular worldview not just of black people but people in general.

    Satire is extremely difficult to do well. I haven't seen a good satire since "In the Loop" from 2009 and that includes "American Fiction" which I thought was a bit disappointing. As a woman, I feel like we are aware of our surroundings, maybe a bit more than men. Like my boyfriend won't notice suspicious people or make note of faces, outfits, etc. When I'm alone in a sketchy area, I'm looking for an exit plan. Not saying men don't do that or get assulted, but it's different. I'm not gonna make a movie about it. There's enough media discussing it. That's how I feel about this movie - if this is your message, then I think other things say it better.

If you have seen American Fiction (Cringy but amazing movie) it captures that tone deafness of hollywood. Kinda like how everyone movie involving a mexican american back in the day had to show them all as cholos or gardeners.

    I love Sparks review because he actually reviewed the movie, not just the script like others. Script sucks, story telling boring, acting bland, cinamatography bad, missing background music, etc. He broke down every aspect of this flick, way better job than anyone else. Sparks review was better scripted and read than the movie.
    Sparks should go to Hollywood and become a writer/director, then maybe we'll get movies people actually want to watch.

      @@KennySparksYT for me this film was metaphor about dealing about handling micro aggressions which is a massive health problem for people of colour and highlighting the solutions between old fashioned techniques and present day climate of being upfront.
      We saw this in full effect last week via shannon sharpe amanda seales interview when he tried to deny her own experience of racism by defending a white person he has never met 🤣
      The character leads art work is the key in this film: resonate with his artwork and art process, you will love the movie
      As for the romantic aspect it's reminded me of Barry Jenkins earlier films like Medicine for Melonconly
      Also saw strong connection with meet Joe black, another brilliant film that has been misunderstood
      For some reason people want this film to be something that it's not.
      The film biggest flaw has been the way it was been mis-marketed
      I would give it a strong 7.5 but 10/10 for making a film around this movie trope.

    I and Spike Lee as well, think this trope has been around since the "talkies" began. It has been a crutch used by film writers and producers to humanize genies and fairy godfathers and godmothers.
    All this crutch did was lend a maudlin bent to the film. Usually to elevate the sad crushing emotion of the protagonist during a time when all seemed lost and unrecoverable.
    Better plot and script writing should be the beginning of the end to the Magical Negro/ess (The legend of Bagger Vance and Ghost with Whoopi Goldberg), Mexican (The Milagro Bean Field Wars) and other such tropes.
    Let us hope so before people begin once again to rub the tops of our heads for good luck.
