    I had no idea Charlotte had lakers near by. Charlotte is a great young city with so much to offer.

      It really is a great city. and there is not just one but 3 that directly access Charlotte, with others to the south and east :)

      Uhhh Charlotte is not a young city. Lol
      It's been around for a long time. A lot longer than cities in the west. However, it didn't "blossom" until quite a bit later but that most assuredly does not mean it's young. 🦭

    "Don't worry these are not nuclear power plants.." They are. The McGuire Nuclear Station is a nuclear power plant located at 13225 McGuire Nuclear Station Rd, about 17 miles northwest of Charlotte, North Carolina, on the state's largest lake, Lake Norman.

      I did realize after recording I lumped both into one. I was trying to refer to the steam station. Yes the one on the south side is Nuclear, which is certainly cleaner than the steam station.

      @@livingincharlottenorthcarolinaNuclear power generation is cleaner than the coal plant. Interestingly, every time you burn coal it actually puts out isotopes.
      Also, Fukushima post filtration only emits Tritium at the rate of; 212 exit signs worth over the course of year...which is basically nothing.
      Alas, this is why containment structures matter and the fact that McGuire plant is leaps and bounds ahead of the Fukushima plant. 😎 Plus, the way it's moderated is quite a bit different too.

    According to the Waterkeeper Alliance, Lake Norman was affected by radium from Duke Energy’s Marshall Steam coal-fired plant in the past. The radium raised the radioactivity level until it reached 2.5 times the drinking water standard. Thallium levels nearby also exceeded groundwater standards. However, despite these alarming results, many professionals claimed there wasn’t a danger in the drinking water or groundwater.

      These are great points. However one thing many don't realize is that not all ground water is connected. In addition, while that was an issue in the past with poor practices in removal of coal, there have not been major issues in moe recent years. I certainly dont recommend drinking Lake Norman water (as it does have polutants in it), going out for a day on the lake isnt' the end of the world :)

      Correct, which is why steam generation via coal is not good. Not unless you invest into chemical scrubbing in the stacks. If you're interested in this, I highly suggest looking up a RUclips channel called; IllinoisEnergy Professor. 👍🏻

      @livingincharlottenorthcarolina  Год назад +1

      There was an incident of Coal Ash many years ago but it was remediated. The lake is also one that flows, so it was all flushed out
