Question, how do we know if a book will get added as official or not-? (And if Erevan will be part of the official one)
Like for Drakkenheim, I thought it wouldn't be added to apps like DnDBeyond, but I was wronged! So just asking you or anyone here in the comment section where I can find such information.

@@yuxushi8849 The acceptance of Drakenheim was a deal worked out between WotC & the Dungeon Dudes. That means any assimilation of Ryoko's would be from a deal between DnD Shorts & WotC. So far I think the answer is no but the physical book isn't shipping for a while so time will tell.

As a backer of the book I have a question regarding the Elemental Strikes and Elemetal Combo abilities. As far as I understand, in the latest update melee Elemental Strikes count as unarmed strikes for the purposes of magic items and that also allows for scaling with the Monk's martial arts die or the Unarmed fighting style in the case of multiclassing (as well as the Elemental Fighting feat from the book).
My question is, does that also affect Elemental Combo's damage dice? If a bender were to say, take the Elemental Fighting feat to make their unarmed strikes deal 1d8 damage, wouldn't that mean their melee Elemental Strikes would become 1d8 + spellcasting modifier (since they're unarmed strikes)? So would the melee Elemental Combo attack scale by d8's instead of d6's, to a max of 4d8?
Additionally, would that mean that the Disciple of Ferocity's 15th level feature Elemental Ferocity increases the damage of their Elemental Combo to 5d8 for a melee attack (if they have the Elemental Fighting feat or Unarmed Fighting Style)?

4 elements monk is the easiest subclass to fix. Just make it a Wis based third caster like eldritch knight and arcane trickster, give it the druid spell list, and at the levels where it gets subclass features let it pick two options from the list of things in the PHB version of the subclass. If they pick a thing that mimics a spell, then that spell gets added to their spell list. If they pick a thing that is not an existing spell and unique to the 4 elements monk, then they get that thing as a bonus feature that triggers whenever they use flurry of blows.

What kind of modifications do you give the Four Elements Monk?

    • @benelm6566
      @benelm6566 Месяц назад

@@MGP2210 I reworked 4 elements into a 1/3 caster, like eldritch knight or arcane trickster, but using warlock ideas and using ki to cast spells instead of spell/pact slots. My spell list is a bit more damage focused than the element bender's, which is something I may have to work on. I have a system similar to Will's for specialising in elements and getting extra effects too. The overall monk rework focuses on reducing /removing ki point costs for base abilities and moving them onto subclass features.
I've posted it in the homebrew sub-Reddit under the name Treebard if you want to go searching for it.

I love that some people commented that this class is like the kineticist and I'm wondering if we've watched the same video.
Like guys, even if the flavor is kinda the same (elementalist-like), the mechanics are different. Yeah, the elemental strikes are kinda the same (which are basic attacks), but the subclasses and the spellcasting are pretty different (I do not remember the Kineticist having spell slots... 🤔).
IDK, it seems to me that it's just comparing just for the purpose of diminishing the effort DnD Shorts has put into the crafting and testing of the class.
Just my thoughts, and to whoever's read this: Have a nice day! 🤗

    • @xordep2

      @VolpiThunder Месяц назад +4

You know, some people are saying that in a good way I think. Personally, I had this vibe all along and it's not a bad thing ^^ I love elemental themed classes and it do share similarities with the kineticist but it doesn't mean it's the same. Shorts (and all the playtesters) did a great job at balancing the class and giving it unique features.
Good day to you too !

Spell-like abilities, which is basically just a spell but under a different name.
The kineticist is basically a feat-based caster. Very very much so a magic-based class.

    • @tanaka173
      @tanaka173 Месяц назад +4

I would say it absolutely plays like Kineticist though. That's not a dig at him that's just the fact. Especially the whole "pick one type of element and it gets stronger" deal.
That's not to say it's bad or a complete ripoff. The bare bones are the same though (not shocking since they're both trying to do the avatar-style magic martial arts theme).
I don't say any of this to diminish or throw shade; people catch inspiration from lots of things around them. It's not throwing shade to recognize that these two things are eerily similar. Pathfinder in its bones is D&D 3.5. That doesn't make it bad.
Something being compared doesn't mean it's diminishing.

Difficult to fully evaluate the class without the spells and some missing details, but the concept is great.
Im a huge fan of elemental magic / skills, and this approach was the best ive seen so far. You choose not only your element , but also how you use it: tidal wave crushing or a pure water healing. Versatile without overwhelming.
Only one thing i wonder if it could change is that every element could have two damage type based on them, instead of 1
    Air: thunder & slashing
    Water: cold & piercing
    Earth: bludgeoning & acid
    Fire: fire & lightning
Eager to see it fully done.

As someone who plays a Bender in one of the campaigns I'm in, it is a very fun class. The main focus of it is being incredibly flexible. Depending on what elemental affinity you have determines what kind of character you'll have. Water is primarily healing, air is that martial feel with a bit more spice, fire is that pure damage, earth is a protector. I am currently playing a Disciple of Fortification Earth Bender and especially with Disciple of Fortification, I am playing a protector. A majority of my character's spells give temp HP or prevent damage in some way. But his damaging capabilities aren't anything to scoff at either. I can't go into depth on the actual spells he has and I know this doesn't give a whole lot of info but I've been enjoying the class so far. Also earth is bludgeoning and acid

    This is cool.
I've made 4 Homebrew classes (technically 6, but we don't talk much about the other 2):
    1. Gold Knight: originally based on the idea of a gold Knight from fire emblem, a gold knight is a character who specializes in using a mount to overcome most of the disadvantages of heavy equipment. Has more than 30 subclasses.
    2. Blood mage: a spellcasting class that uses health to cast spells instead of mana (which I use to refer to spell points or spell slots). Has a very defensive focus and was very difficult to balance. Allows the DM to rebalance the cost of spells with as little as two words if need be. Either "you're overpowered", which increases the cost of spells, or "you're underpowered", which lowers the cost of spells.
    3. Battle king: as electric knight is to wizard, battle master is to battle king
    4. Unique: a class that lets you spend skill points obtained by leveling up on features.
    The dark two:
    1. Ninja: It was very similar to rogue and I lost the paper that had this class on it.
    2. Expert: A class that makes your character die if they take any damage, ever, but comes in with tons of defensive features to avoid damage and gets a much higher offensive output. I believe there were 7 extra attacks in there. States that if you die your new character has to be one level lower. I still ban it in most of my games. One of the handful of things I've made that I actually consider OP.

And it looks very much like both ideas could work together seamlessly at the same gaming table. Which is great because I backed both projects on Kickstarter! Rock on!
Love the promo tagline for Erevan's: "Turn a TPK into a TP-Yay!" XD

In one campaign, we had a guy that would always summon elementals of different types. A water elemental was included in a drunken raid of a bakery and one of the bakers threw a bowl of cake mix at it. It became a cake elemental and our party named it Duncan after Duncan Hines. Best npc we ever had. 😂

I hated i couldnt buy in on ryoko at the time. Of all of the options, this class (as i have been trying to homebrew a better elemental monk), was the thing i looked forward to the most in the book. Thank you for being as giving as you are and giving us this amazing approach.

Even with the official and numerous fan games for Avatar, I have not found one I was satisfied with, so 4 years ago I started working on my own (before the official kickstarter came out).
I might at least try these Classes out. Happy to geek out about bending.

I've been having a blast putting together spell an item card for my players, as I spend our current sessions, role playing the Japanese god of entertainment/dawn that's teaching them about your world. I'm so excited to have the physical stuff in front of me.

I made one that my dm approved for playtesting, called a gambler, that was similar to gambit from X-men, you could throw playing cards, force cards on magic item decks, and even choose your place in initiative order at higher levels, it was pretty cool,

This is pretty cool, I recently played a custom druid which I made that was based off moon druid but could shift into elementals using the summon elemental spirit stat block scaled by max spell level. Played up to level 17 with it! If this class was about back then I would've probably played it as the idea was to make an Avatar character :)

Oh man, imagine playing this as a genasi. There some cool themes to explore, like a genasi of one element whose affinity is for a completely different one, like a water genasi who just feels completely connected to the fire affinity. Then, the inverse, a genasi who wants to discover the nature of their mysterious heritage and do so by delving into the affinity that matches their element. An earth genasi who goes all-in on the earth affinity, where the consider their primordial form to be an elevated connection to whatever force made them a genasi.
Imagine a bender has a child who is a genasi whose element matches the one they have the highest affinity for: an air bender begetting an air genasi. There'd be superstition around it, for sure, that the affinity is what brought it about (even though that might not be the case), or that achieving a heightened state of affinity blesses you with a genasi child. Genasi might even be considered a good omen amongst communities of benders, and communities of benders would likely receive a higher volume of genasi travellers and migrants.
I really like the class. Often, new classes feel like they'd be better suited to being an existing class' subclass, but this one definitely doesn't. Very impressive, and well put together.

I'll have to double check the class. I just had the mental image of my Fire Genasi who uses a homebrew Pugilist class from Dm's Guild as a Fire Bender. She'll ignight her fists in flames then introduce the bandits to one big old beat down

When the spell casting was brought up, I thought it was gonna be Constitution because of the "power within you." Being able to choose the stat makes the class so much more versatile and can go into so many different directions.

Been play testing it since release, the acid bludgeoning is so much better for earth, tho I still wish it was bludgeoning piercing and slashing I just feel it fits, tho that being said we home rule that the elemental attacks can be those or their element if the attack makes sense for it (basically all bar fire)

The problem with this class, and monk, is that unarmed attacks don't scale well into the mid/late game. It's something you must have noticed playing BG3, since despite the incredible tools that unarmed attackers get in that game (tavern brawler, lots of extra dices and mods), they still slightly underperform in the late game compared to weapon builds. The result is that if you want to make this class work, you're going to have to multiclass 1 fighter or cleric.
I think my build would go something like this: fighter 1, bender 19 (with the subclass that is shown). We take air and water, protection fighting style, magic initiate (from human variant) for shield, and when our attack is high enough great weapon master. We only care about str and con. During the early game, we cast bless, then at lv 10 we start casting haste on ourself (with equipment that improves our con saves to get to at least +9). The rest of our spell slots we use for shield mainly. The avatar form gives us +2AC and +55 HP at lv11, which is huge given that we're already pretty tanky, and we play it exactly like an eldritch knight.

Probably not because that’s one of the selling points of the book. They gave one of the subclasses for free alongside the base class as a teaser + testing platform; but if you want more then need to purchase the book. While physical products don’t arrive until next year, the PDF’s that come with the book are released when ready (final pdf should be releasing soon)
