I bought the VHS tape The Verve - The Video 96-98. It's the best documentary I've ever seen of any band. Featuring tracks like "Stormy Clouds", "Rolling People", "Life's an Ocean" and "Come On" at their ultimate best versions - it's amazing. I would love to buy a remastered, bluray/dvd version of the very same. For now I only have converted it to digital form to have it personally as my trophy. Respect for making the best-ever VHS tape.
i done the same and still have it the cover is wore down as it was paperback but hey it happens wen its getting passed around 45 of your friends at a time all verve mad up north glasgow ..
+The Sidelines Official Question for you…did you ever stumble across the Neon Wilderness video? I'm sure we stuck it at the end of the VHS…20mins or so after the credits roll. If you still have the VHS and something to play it on maybe you could check…see if my memory still serves. Best wishes & thank you for your kind words. George.
Hi, +Badkamra I'm 100% sure I did not skip after the credits. No Neon Wilderness on there. I think the tape only goes so far. :) anyhow - would love to have this remastered, however there's a certain retro charm to having this as a VHS. 90's, baby ;)
just shows you what McCabe brought to Urban Hymns i think his contributions have been downplayed. Youth was long gone by the time they fixed up this album. Producer credits should have gone to McCabe and Chris Potter. Kudos for McCabe helping getting Potter his producer credit
ABSOLUTELY DIVINE THANK U SO MUCH FOR THIS MIRACLE ETERNAL LOVER OF RICHARD ASHCROFT FOR LIFE MY MENTOR, MY BROTHER, THE SOUND OF MY LONELINESS (WITH EVERYBODY) :)
It’s amazing what Nick Mcabe was able to do with these songs and salvage that album… listening to these demos and comparing the songs to the actual album goes to show where the real magic always was with the Verve and it wasn’t necessarily where most people thought it was ….. it’s a crime Mcabe never received a producer credit … and the fact that a lot of Ashcrofts solo albums songs were demoed with a band that never received any credit for their contributions to those songs musically is another kick in the face from a mediocre song writer whose true talent was aligning himself with some brilliant musicians ….. and his solo career is proof of that!
Salvage is a strong word to use when the lyrics were just as strong as the production and guitar work. There’s a reason why it’s a certified classic. Can’t have one without the other.
I bought Alone with Everyone when I was 16. Now I'm 29 and this is first time I see some of the songs of this album played with The Verve lineup. This is great, but is a pity Nick McCabe was not in the group at that time, for the band's distincitve psycheledic sound was his trademark. Still great rendering! Thanks for uploading this!!
+musicsuxnowadays The Verve did not get any money from Bittersweet Symphony :/ it is supposed to use parts of the orchestral version from "The Last Time" from RStones... Check it if u want!
+shopo haha jeah XD Really they dont earn any money with this song :O !? ok the melody is partly ripped from the stones but The Verve made it finally the Song it is today ....
Garry Pitcairn Yeah, not The Verve. More like an RA solo record with added ST and PS. Even with RA's best songs, McCabe is an integral part of The Verve. He came back half way through, but his genius is still all over that album. Come On, Rolling People, Catching The Butterfly, This Time. That's the real Verve to me.
Thanks a lot for sharing this jewel!!!! Is there any chance you could share the origianl HQ file? This deserves to be watched in the best possible quality. Please consider to share the original files... Thanks in advance!!!
Don't get me wrong, I love The Verve. But you actually can hear another familiar songs that was influenced for them to write the track they're singing. Like the track they're singing at 3.16 sounds like the Four Tops Reach Out
I've just noticed, at the beginning of the video when Richard is playing the drugs don't work. I remember him messing it up be it seem to not be the case on here. Have you cut it out because he said "I've fucked that one up"? Or it it the Mandela effect?
Really weird seeing nearly the whole "Urban Hymns Verve" setup including Tong but not McCabe? Playing Ashcroft solo hits like cmon people (always thought a decent high octane pop song but early verve? Nah.) just curious where was McCabe and when it was filmed? Was cmon people a verve song that didn't make it to urban hymns so he put it on his solo? Good stuff, thanks for this
The Verve broke up after ANS in late 95. Several months later Ashcroft then got Jones and Salisbury back and hired Tong as the new guitarist, originally intending to use a new band name before reverting to The Verve. This session was recorded with a whole host of other demos in 1996. Nick rejoined the band in January 1997, which is why he didn’t appear here. C’mon People, A Song For The Lovers, Lord I’ve Been Trying and Birds Fly were all demoed in 1996 but didn’t make the album and they subsequently were released by Ashcroft on his solo albums.
+Badkamra we always shot it to look like 16mm archive that had been dug up. now it really is that. no budget, no commission. 16mm film stolen from Granada TV's 'Prime Suspect'.
It was Alan Klein who headed the company that owned publishing rights for a lot of the stones catalog - even though they took the sample from someone else’s interpretation of the song! The guy was an asshole - he fukd the Beatles over too - paul mc cartney hated him
He forced Richard Ashcroft to sell the publishing rights of bittersweet symphony to him for $1 - and Allen Klein’s company acquired sole publishing rights for the song, earning him millions. Check him out on Wikipedia - he was ruthless
Demo of C'mon People (We're Making It Now). It was written by Richard in mid 90s (96 probably) for his solo album that appeared to be The Verve's 3rd studio album Urban Hymns. Later, in 2000, this song appeared on Ashcroft's first studio album Alone With Everybody.
Just like the Sex Pistols,, Richard taught me to play 3 chord songs on an acoustic…. Don’t get me wrong, Nick Mc Cabe is godhead . Richard is a lyrical genius.., my missus says they are depressing ?? Lol
Tong was the Guitarist for The Good, The Bad, The Queen with Damon Albarn as the Singer which means he aint a bad player. He was more of Rhythm Guitar player. They should have retained this 5-piece line up. Cause they would Sound MASSIVE having Nick McCabe's swirls and Feedback on that Guitar along with Tongy on basic Rhythms (Unstoppable) which paved the way for Urban Hymms to become the Group's Best Selling Record having 2 guitar players together.
Beautiful, It’s a tropical waterfall with a velvet lightning and warm rain with your lover!! C’mon !!! 🤙🏽
I remember buying this on vhs. Brilliant. It nice to see Richard is still using the acoustic guitar now, which he has in the video.
Incredible band of that era...❤
No McCabe - No Party

Without him it's just another bend. With him - godlike mode
@@MusicSaves89 bend?

The psychedelic sound is in fact called 'shoegaze'.

A Song for the lovers👌🏻

Blue&Green Revisionist bullshit. Ashcroft likes to peddle that lie

Urban Hymns songs were intended for his solo project too..
