When I was in talk radio in the 80's I was lucky enough to interview Steve Lawrence when he came to Norfolk, Virginia. He was a great interview and a real sweet man.
At this point Trini was 28 years of age. He has just finished a very successful engagement performance for several days at the now- defunct "Basin St East" here in New York City. His show was being attended, amid the audience, by The likes of Eddie Gorme & Steve Lawrence, Sammy Davis, Jr., Ruth & Milton Berle, Jack Cassidy, Eva Gabor, Liz Ashley. A 'live album' ("Trini López live At Basin St. East") was recorded of this show. Unfortunately, Mr. Trini López past away at age 83 due to Covid19 on August 11,2020. Rest in peace.
We just lost Mr. Trinidad (Trini) Lopez to Covid-19 a few days ago, August 2020. Prayers for his Family & Friends who love him dearly. His fans will miss him greatly & treasure his music forever! ❤️
I love so dearly TRINI LOPEZ himself and all his fantastic musics, his dictions english or spanish,,, so vivid and very soothing and more his descent moves singing and so gentle dancing... You will be always in my heart till my last breath♥️
OMG!!!! NO!!!! I had NO IDEA!!!!! This is November 9, 2022 and I'm just hearing about Mr. Lopez's passing from reading what you've just written. I really liked him!! My favorite of his numbers was/is IF I HAD A HAMMER. And he even lost his life due to COVID-19!! Sad. :(
And he was supposedly such a royal pain during the filming that the screenwriters and the production team made sure that his character was the first of the dozen killed off in the picture.
The panel missed the cues from the audience who laughed uproariously at the continued references to a pig. Should have been a clue that they were focusing on the wrong thing.
I knew Trini rather well at one time having met and interviewed him in the 70’s. As it turned out at one point I also coincidentally lived in the building next to his. His brother Jesse was also extremely talented. He had had a couple of albums out, but by that time, Trini had unfortunately earned himself a bit of a “difficult” reputation along with his stardom and Jesse couldn’t get past that with the record producers and name-makers. There was a tell-all interview that the late Tom Snyder had with Trini’s famous former manager back in the middle 70’s on that reputation.
So this "reputation" of his do you think is why he stayed single all his life? I wished there was a book about Trini. I love his music, but I still don't know much about his personal life and what he was like.
I just love when Bennett makes fun of John and John stares right in to the camera and says nothing for a while. Just like Oliver Hardy used to do. :) 24:09
I always felt that they should have a wide chair to accommodate 2 people at least, even though there usually is just one guest that visits the show. The wide chair should be there all the time. I guess my Idea is a bit too late for that to happen now, huh ?.

Garbage is not a product of the garbage collector. The garbage collector provides a service. John Daly often gets the service/product question wrong. The worst case I remember was that where he said the guy from the Federal Reserve Bank who oversaw the burning of old bank-notes, had a "product". Crazy !!
I completely agree. A product is accepted to be a usable, saleable commodity, which garbage is not. Despite Arlene's insight and the amusing aspects of it, the segment was still a confused cluster****, and it was John's fault.

Or does she pick up street litter? Or clear her college's litter bins? We'll never know.

@Joe Postove - I took her to mean she wanted a gift with diamonds, so he misunderstood and told her they were illegal. It seems as though WML is simply not willing to bring on a rock star. They bring on Trini Lopez, who is not a rock musician, to try and stay relevant. They'll bring on a succession of pre-rock stars like Tony Bennett, who will never chart again due to changing musical tastes, but absolutely no rock performers, even though real super-stars are now available.
Ricky Nelson, Fabian, Paul Anka, Lieber and Stoller, Bobby Darin, and (in the syndicated version) Frank Zappa were all on WML. BTW, Tony Bennett's album of duets with Lady Gaga went to #1 on the Billboard album chart.
@@nataliep.9047 First of all, Paul Anka did a lot of non-rock music, so they could stomach him. Secondly, Stoller and Leiber weren't performers. Parenthetically, Dorothy insulted them to their face, although sotto voce, twice during the few minutes they were there. Without Lady Gaga's participation, an album by the former superstar Tony Bennett wouldn't have done much on the charts.
WOW! Mispronunciations of Monaco! Embarrassing! It shows how provincial things were then. That is why newscasters have to be correct and precise in all reported. In Philly we have always had sparklers as part of the pyrotechnics available for Independence Day and Martin Gabel was from Philly, so he knew what she meant and loved to tease his wife.
I thought Miss Blood would be a vampiress or a nurse.
Joe Postove - Your remark was worse than mine. (They always are!).
9:00 > 9:50 -- Dorothy and pig garbage . When Dorothy is funny, it is a big bonus. Daly is a master of semantics as illustrated here. Classic moment.
Refuse her. Waste . Litter. Isle of Debris. And all of that was unscripted off the points of their pretty little heads.

I bet they couldn't wait to put this episode in the can.
They all had such a good time with the garbage collector. Was so much fun!
Steve Lawrence thought he would get a laugh by calling her "Miss Hemoglobin", but his attempt was in vein.

He's up in the tree ....
Wasn't this shortly before Dorothy Kilgallen was found in her home dead or murdered?
dead yes, murdered no
dead yes, murdered, no
I personally think she was murdered
I also think she was murdered.
She overdosed on pills and alcohol. No signs of struggle. In her bed. Her death has been sadly sensationalized.
It has gotten worse in terms of verb tenses.About 95% do past participles incorrectly. Of course, use of pronouns has deteriorated. I would rather watch YT than news on TV/Cable.
The garbageman can!

John often went a little overboard with "explaining" answers.
No he didn't. That was a part of his schtick. We, and the audience, LOVED it.
The panel seemed anxious to contribute to the need of Miss Bloods service with all of the crap they spewed out of their mouths.
the middle guy is a vice president and yet he flips over those stupid cards, but he didn't flip over those stupid cards for the 1st person (which actually shocked me, cause he's ALWAYS flipping over those stupid cards for no reason)
The 'stupid cards' played an important role in this program.
What a difference from the crap they call game shows nowadays.
