Thank you Doddy, I've had most of these checks in my routine but now it's complete. Working on becoming a better bike mech like you and your videos always help.
That's why I use a soul with a car valve. It's more comfortable. The video is true and Irecommend following the advice of the guy.I use the Castrol Chain O-R to lubricate the chain.
Thanks for the tips. Since I saw your cable-ties video, I do carry always few of them in my rides, and always they are there in case of need. Greetings from the Galilee.
Hey Doddy! Rode this weekend and shoved a few cable ties in my bag just in case, about a third of the way through the ride, my friend calls us to stop and had ended up busting off the control unit for her suspension system, #boomcabletie moment and we fixed it up and rode a bunch more flowwy miles without issue!! Keep up the great work!
6:04 tip for aligning cockpit, use a colouring pencil to mark the position. but for the stem I haven't needed to tighten it, since I switched to Renthal, with other stems I had to check regularly and it was often too loose. I but Loctite on almost every thread on my bike, but brakes and grips are quite common to loosen, I use RevGrips, Shimano Deore m6000 brakes, Loctite definitely help, but not endlessly of course. construction and material and the abuse it goes trough matters a lot.
4:39 I use Loctite 243, and use pliers to tighten it, but one time it came loose and I dented a rim, which I fixed later, but Cush core is on the way, so hopefully that never happens. but I got spare wheelset, so no problem. I haven't tried stronger Loctite yet. But I should have checked it more often, I check everything on my bike quite often, I go over it after every ride, but stuff happens anyway.
I always check my bikes after every ride and then before I go out I check everything and sometimes when I’m taking a break mid ride I check the bike out especially if I’ve been hitting hard trails
Good tip on under tightening the brake levers. +1 on carrying extras for fixing your buddy's, too. Nothing more bummer than having to cut your ride short because of your buddy.
Good info...i really like the not cranking controls...i torque them to rec carbon bar settings, but now may loosen as ive been k own to crash here and there lol! Really good vid
Great video as always. I check tire pressure, brakes and shocks. Speaking of shocks can you do a video on adding spacers to them? I have fox 36 fork n dpx2 in rear.
I don't understand why people don't like to use the screw-on valve caps. They protect the valve which is as you said "quite delicate" and can get all gunked up.
Dicky Samad its the same oil as inside the fork...so fox or rockshox fork oil...the grade u would use fir pre soaking foam seals as per manufacturer service instructions
It's a good day if I even check my wheels are still attached. Done a bit of berm ripping recently, thought I'd broken my hubs internals, turns out I hadn't done up my thru axle...
Hey Doddy! What is the camo Mat or brand of mat your sitting on In your Audi? Forgive me if you've mentioned this already, would love to pick one up. Love the vids, seen them all, keep it up!! (Please let me know)
6:30 okay so you when setting up your bike, it is important to tighten the bolt to a specific torque.. but if you just check your bike at the trail, then it matters no more! that is very smart... i think.
#askgmbntech what mud guard are you using? It looks really celan an minimalistic. Would like to get me one of those. Keep up the good work and much love form slovenia.
Me thinks Doddy is the type of guy you tell him you're going to be there 12.30 when it's 1, just so you don't have to hang about while he's fiddling ;)
8:43 or the brake came with too little fluid/oil, my Shimano rear brakes did, but fixed that easely, bleed block and added oil. now it's perfect. one mistake that can be dangerous is to think every thing is perfect out of the box or mechanic did hte job properly, so important to have a good bikeshop if you dont can't do it yourself for whatever reason. I regularly check, before and after a ride. I quite often check kids bikes when I am out riding, I undid many death trap mistakes, sad to see. all parents should watch this channel, so they can have kids bikes in working order. some things I could not fix, cracked chain for example. brakes and shifters tighten at crazy high torque is quite common on kids bikes, sadd I saw boy with brake levers that were like hooks.
What grips are those?? I'm new to mountain biking and because of my old bmx background I find my hands want to creep in to a narrow grip on the bars. I need a grip with a flange on them like yours to stop this. Also been looking for an orange pair like yours. Nice video, very helpful for new people to the sport like myself and my wife.
Can someone give me some advice please? Watched/read lots about putting some oil on the forks but have seen conflicting articles saying you dont need to;that the oil already in the forks is enough and that you should just turn the bike upside down.
Not sure what Doddy uses here, but my favourite is Juice Lubes Fork Juice. It's a spray lube, so put a bag or something around your discs when using it. It is very good.
Doddy, was the oil you used on the shock seals a silicone based oil? Could I use a light weight RC car shock oil to do the same job? (I have a bottle of 350 cst pure silicone shock oil from my RCcar racing days )
I just tow my repair station behind my bike 🚲 ready for anything on some jumps my tools end up every where but atleast if my bike brakes I have a bike shot trailing along behind me
Guys, i need help! Is lubing your suspension good or bad? And if it is good, what kind of lube should i use? What is the best shock lube out there? Or dont lube at all? And why dont use SRAM Butter on the Fork? In the 50h service the wiperseals get lubet with it as well... Please help me!
Doddy, in the uk we call this 'faffing' 😉. Top gear rules apply...ur not ready having check that all at home, then ur left in the car park...mega bad form to turn up and then check!
ashley scarth just use fork oil...better cheaper and no solvents that all sprays have, that will break down the oil in the foams...all those spray seal lubes end up making more stichion...so u use (and buy)more and more of their product
dry lube is a solvent which is made to evaporate that carries the 'dry' stuff, will be bad for the seals and dilute oil inside the fork when used often
What is the number one check you do before a ride? Let us know 🛠
GMBN Tech tire pressure lube suspension and chain
Which shoes do you wear when it raisn to not get realy wet feets?
tire pressure ,shock pressure/lube shocks and chain.
Beer in the fridge ready for my return
tire pressure, chain lube, cockpit bolts, linkage bolts → my friend lost his bottom shock mount nut on his trek fuel ex 8 recently.
I always like to look at my bike for a solid second and then start my ride
Just long enough to mentally plead, "Not _this_ time, please."
Thank you Doddy, I've had most of these checks in my routine but now it's complete. Working on becoming a better bike mech like you and your videos always help.
Do a video on how to stash your things on your bike without backpacks
Check out this one Ian! gmbn.eu/carrysparesmtb
Buy a high end specialized bike with swat
Egle No thanks to Specialized
So three hour later I go for my ride
Yea he forgot to mention you should take everything apart, check it, clean it, put it back together and then be ready for a ride
That's why I use a soul with a car valve. It's more comfortable. The video is true and Irecommend following the advice of the guy.I use the Castrol Chain O-R to lubricate the chain.

Doing my first mtb ride in over a week (been doing some road training). This came at the perfect time. Thanks Doddy!

Valve caps are a must if you drop your bike etc very easy to hit the valve screw cap and bend it which means you can't open valve to inflate
Good info...i really like the not cranking controls...i torque them to rec carbon bar settings, but now may loosen as ive been k own to crash here and there lol! Really good vid
Very nice and useful video! Thanks for sharing GMBN
Doddy you should do video on whats in your bike bag
Nice vid doddy I really appreciate your help. Thanks
Glad we could help! 👊
Thank you Doddy! I'm a new rider and this is very helpful!!
Steven Goldberg best new rider tip...never turn up and do the checks while everyone who did them at home waits for u...not cool
I like your break tightening tip Doddy I'll do that.I crash alot😂
That bike is so sick
Great video as always. I check tire pressure, brakes and shocks. Speaking of shocks can you do a video on adding spacers to them? I have fox 36 fork n dpx2 in rear.
Super nice video doddy!!!!
Also, running your Maxxle or fox equivalent axel's lever over the disk brake, kind of acts as a bash guard.
Great video again, well done.
Mega bidGMBN. I am a big forgetful on these simple checks.! New Orbea Rallon in two weeks so new full bike check every ride 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻😎
Nice helpful vid! - What is the fork lube you use? Fox say a 20wt gold oil but cant find that in the uk?
I don't understand why people don't like to use the screw-on valve caps. They protect the valve which is as you said "quite delicate" and can get all gunked up.
11:39 what is he puting on stancios ?
dd410 fork lube
@@joewilliams4198 Thank you
MTL. At least he hopes it is?
Hi doddy.. what oil did you use of ur fork and dropper? Brand and name pls.. thanks
Dicky Samad its the same oil as inside the fork...so fox or rockshox fork oil...the grade u would use fir pre soaking foam seals as per manufacturer service instructions
If your riding tubeless how does an innertube help? Do you have to carry a different valve for it as well then?
Can you please do a general service video, I don’t want to keep having to go to a bike shop. Thanks
I use Vicks Vapo Rub on my stanchion
excellent video!!! love that colour combo and matching fork :D
Can you guys try out sweet protection rider gear?
What was that for a fork oil? 👍
I learned at the bike shop a few weeks ago hair spray is a good glue for grips
Great video Doddy 👍👍👍👍👍
Great tips again Doddy!
It's a good day if I even check my wheels are still attached. Done a bit of berm ripping recently, thought I'd broken my hubs internals, turns out I hadn't done up my thru axle...
How about installing valve caps on your presta valve to protect it on trails instead
What fork oil to use on my Fox fork? Had Rock Shox fork before and used Brunox spray, but is it suitable for FOX?
I noticed that peaty's sealant there, are we getting a video about it?
What type of lube did you use on the fork?
He mentioned tight chainstays I've been rubbing my derailleur with my foot lol
Been worried about bending it but has not happened yet
Hey Doddy! What is the camo Mat or brand of mat your sitting on In your Audi? Forgive me if you've mentioned this already, would love to pick one up. Love the vids, seen them all, keep it up!! (Please let me know)

What is that topeak pump model? Look nice since got psi meterbar
I have never broken a chain. Is there a video that explains how to use a chain breaker as you mentioned, correctly?
John Tory youtube...probably...?
Doddy, please let me know what is this bottle cage with place for multitool? Is that the swat?
It's a Topeak Ninja Mountain
Check out their whole Ninja range here: www.topeak.com/global/en/products/ninja
Many thanks! I'm a bit bothered with the pricing, but the design makes sense.
Whay do you do if you ride your bike every day as far ad maintainability
How do you like that new Mountain King as a rear tire?
Check everything from top to bottom if unsure go to LBS
plastic valve core? where can i find it? i'm asking because i can't find one like that min 5:12..
i just find the parktool blue one..
thank you
what kind of oil you use for clean the fork ???
What bottle cage is that?
#askgmbntech what mud guard are you using? It looks really celan an minimalistic. Would like to get me one of those. Keep up the good work and much love form slovenia.
Can you buy the fork boost in Australia? Thanks
Nice video
I’ve got SRAM Guide Ultimate brakes and snapped a lever in a crash no good haha
What are those northwave shoes in the video?
Me thinks Doddy is the type of guy you tell him you're going to be there 12.30 when it's 1, just so you don't have to hang about while he's fiddling ;)
cornishcactus 😂 true...always one...in my old group, it was me😝
What size is that scott?

Hi, Doddy! Why is Your right lever connected to front caliper? You have a motorcycle background?
It's basically the standard setup in the UK: right-front, left-rear
@@gmbntech And Oz
Link for the torque bits!!
Nems271 topeak mini rachet...google
Rupert Wenn The link was more like for a kick back. But thanks :)

they are probaly ergon branded grips, gmbn sponsor
ultiss
Looks like maybe ergon GD1 factory grips. Thanks! Just what I need.
I got a question do you know how to find a bike out if it's got no labels on it but it's got a VIN code and it's a proper Mount shock bike
Can someone give me some advice please? Watched/read lots about putting some oil on the forks but have seen conflicting articles saying you dont need to;that the oil already in the forks is enough and that you should just turn the bike upside down.
Why would you ever want the handle to the spindle facing forwards? If facing backward they never hook on to brush or branches.
Okay, I'm ready.
MOOOM! See you in 10 minutes
What's the name of this fork lub?
Not sure what Doddy uses here, but my favourite is Juice Lubes Fork Juice. It's a spray lube, so put a bag or something around your discs when using it. It is very good.
He just uses the same fork oil thats inside the fork...best idea, and no worries about seal damage
Thanks for the replies guys. Appreciate!
What was the stuff you put on the forks ?
Tom its fork oil...as he said I think
Doddy, was the oil you used on the shock seals a silicone based oil? Could I use a light weight RC car shock oil to do the same job? (I have a bottle of 350 cst pure silicone shock oil from my RCcar racing days )
Is spelling tire, "tyre" In the UK a thing?
Yes other English speaking countries spell tyre as well, one would be for example Australia. “Tire” spelling is common in US. Just depends on country.
Doddy without his cable ties is like MacGyver without a Swiss Army knife
I just tow my repair station behind my bike 🚲 ready for anything on some jumps my tools end up every where but atleast if my bike brakes I have a bike shot trailing along behind me
My bike has a bolt-on wheel axles and i got a 22mm adjustable wrench in my backpack every ride. lol 😂
Can I use regular wet lube instead of fork oil?
No! using other oils can corrode the seals
I using it for 2 years and nothing bad happend.
Matic Hladnik No
A tip for people riding with regular grips: Use a ziptie to make sure they don't come loose, worked great when I didn't have lock-ons.
Just use hairspray to put them on and they will dry and be solid over night
Legal!!
What I do when the. Slip on grips move I wrap the inward end in electrical tape tightly
Was that Dobby doing the flip in the air? :D
I have a friend that runs 8 psi in the front and 14 in the back with tubes
Guys, i need help! Is lubing your suspension good or bad? And if it is good, what kind of lube should i use? What is the best shock lube out there? Or dont lube at all? And why dont use SRAM Butter on the Fork? In the 50h service the wiperseals get lubet with it as well... Please help me!
don't forget to check your linkage bolts. If they get loose or if you loose one you are in serious trouble
#Doddy, is it o.k. to wipe my fork stanchions with #M 3 in 1 oil ? It's' very light all purpose oil.
gtflyer NO dude...why risk that...try butter or margarine....kidding...dont
Nope
i snapped my pedal out of the crank hole because it came loose mid ride
Doddy, in the uk we call this 'faffing' 😉. Top gear rules apply...ur not ready having check that all at home, then ur left in the car park...mega bad form to turn up and then check!
You guys are the messiest lubers ever, waterfalls of lube!
I guess he needs to attent class with Jon cannings :D
Your mom was pretty messy too
Clean mine after every single ride.
Then IF I look bad on it, the bike still looks great.
"I prefer bottles of lube rather than spray cans. Less messy"
Proceeds to pour his bottle lube all over the shop.
teflon based lube for fork seals
ashley scarth just use fork oil...better cheaper and no solvents that all sprays have, that will break down the oil in the foams...all those spray seal lubes end up making more stichion...so u use (and buy)more and more of their product
Rupert hello had my fork service at tf tuned on the job sheet the say keep seal lube use Teflon based lube on fork seals
I save time and check the bike as I ride. Going too slow, check the gears. Going too fast, test the brakes. Bend coming up? Test the front wheel.
#AskGmbn can u use dry lube to lube your suspension and dropper post?
No! using other oils can corrode the seals
dry lube is a solvent which is made to evaporate that carries the 'dry' stuff, will be bad for the seals and dilute oil inside the fork when used often
By the time i finish checking, without even riding one, i would be going home right after.
Where's the Nukeproof?
In a pinch, is it possible to use a 29er intertube in a 27.5" tire? We all know it isn't advised, but if we had to, it that possible?
Quite possibly. It's possible to use a 27.5" tube on 26" and 29", so it would make sense.
Hi
Too many times & already have to service my forks
