  • Crater Lake National Park took me by surprise. I only saw a little of the park. Even in June snow covers most of the park loop road. And we had no shortage of snow as we approached the lakefront.
We approached from the south and very quickly you can see the snow banks clinging to the sides of the road. We did have a long delay due to the long line at the entrance gate. Once in the park we head north past Mazama Village, the Park Headquarters to finally reach the Rim Village. During winter, Rim Village is the primary visitor center. The parking was crowded when we visited, which was a Saturday afternoon in mid-June.
The drive up is so beautiful, but it is no match for reaching the deep blue water of Crater Lake itself. When we saw it for the first time we were just shocked. What a awesome sight.
We only got as far down West Rim Road as the first overlook. But the views were so worth it. We saw plenty of birds and other small critters near the rim. We can't wait to come back and drive the whole loop in warmer weather.
    Thank you for watching!
