  • Listen to the fascinating history of this famous painting which hangs in the Guinness Bar in the Cashel Palace Hotel in Co Tipperary, Ireland. Narrated by Denis Heffernan, the hotel's famous barman for over fifty years, now sadly deceased.

Anne and I both loved this man. We were extremely fortunate to hear him tell this story many times as guests at the Palace. No matter how many times he recounted this tale, and boy did he love an audience, it was never ever boring. How could it be, this was Denis Heffernan at his very best. A raconteur of the highest order and a lovely, lovely gentleman. We miss you Denis.
Particular thanks to the lovely Donna Corbett for posting this on her Facebook page.

Thank you Johnnie - we miss him very much as well. Thankfully his memory will live on in the Guinness Bar when we reopen the hotel and rehang this picture on the wall in the bar. There will be a QR code for people to download the video and listen to his story again. Best wishes and hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back to Cashel one day. Kind regards, Adriaan Bartels, General Manager
