    I’m am half way through the interview and Leah has been excellent and insightful. Until she discussed Biden’s age. She asked why Biden’s age was an issue, but not Trump. And she then leapt to worries about Harris’ ability to perform. I was worried about Biden’s strength and health - not his age. I loved what he did during his presidency. I did not see him having the strength to do it four more years. I am 100% behind Harris and am relieved that Joe came to at least recognize staying in the race was not best for America.

      I was actually not worried about age per se, but 90 days of hard campaigning plus running the nation's business and then being an energetic executive for 4 more years.

      In that same vein, I was worried about his ability to message to the American people. I believe he is intellectually capable of navigating law and politics. But the President also has to *lead* a highly diverse union of people, and if he cannot persuade the majority of them of the value of his vision and the motivate them to unite with him behind it, then he cannot lead. And what I saw was an inability to persuade, and therefore an inability to fulfill the whole responsibility of a United States President.
      Harris’s success isn’t just that she is a younger, more vigorous foil for Trump, but that she is successfully painting a vision for the American people that they are buying into and she is inspiring them into action beside her in pursuit. As much as I wish things had gone differently for Biden, the evidence is simply against Ms. Daughtry here. Biden saw that, was convinced by it, and has put aside his claims - both to the Democratic nomination and *his own right to grievance* - to join Harris in pursuit of her vision as leader. For someone with so much respect for President Biden, why hasn’t Ms. Daughtry done the same?

      I stopped at the same place in the interview. Age is just a number, but so is IQ. I love Biden, but I could barely make it past the first 10 minutes of the Trump-Biden debate. I was so distraught by Biden's obvious decline in intellectual capacity that i went out, got drunk and sang karaoke at the top of my lungs, certain that I would live too see the end of our democracy. Now, I have reason for hope; thank you Joe.

      You are 100% right. I was scratching my head at this segment of the talk. We were concerned about Biden's age because he was struggling to speak and move and be completely coherent.

      Yes. I don’t understand how anyone could have sat through that entire debate and NOT had concerns about Biden’s cognitive health, ability to successfully pull off a presidential campaign, AND hold the office for four years. It’s baffling to me.

    Joe Biden was the ONLY realistic option when I voted in the Virginia primary (I think the other candidates on the ballot had dropped out by then). The only times I actually DID have a choice in this cycle were at my District and State Conventions, where I helped choose the national delegates, National Committee Members, and Electors. The delegates we elected are people I trust to make good decisions, and, in choosing Harris, I think they justified my trust. That process is as democratic as the one we use to pass laws and make judicial and cabinet appointments-it’s representative democracy. And BTW, if anyone says, “yeah, but it was only Democratic activists and not ALL primary voters who attended those lower level conventions!” give me a break-we did not have enough volunteers in my Congressional District to fill all the delegate slots. Anyone who cares enough to get involved can (and should) get involved.

    It’s astonishing to me that there are voters out there who are “concerned” or tentative or unsure of a “female president.” First of all, there have been hundreds, if not thousands, of strong female executives across the world who led their respective countries to prosperity. Second, WE’VE HAD TWO HUNDRED YEARS OF MEN AND LOOK WHERE WE ARE.
    As a man, I can confidently state that we are far too emotional and lizard-brained to lead anything. Let’s hand over the reigns. We’ve had a good run of two centuries of slowly weakening the Great Experiment’s chances of true success.
    Register to vote, then check your registration regularly to ensure that it hasn’t been purged (Rs are already pulling dirty tricks like this), then vote, then check to ensure that your vote counted. And encourage everyone you encounter to do the same (well, at least the good ones… 😅).

    I think she is right that beneath the unique concern for Biden’s age was also a margin of fear of Kamala and her unknown, black woman possibilities.
    I even felt this when all the liberals and even leftists online were saying she needs to “the whitest, malest, and guyiest” white guy she can find for her VP, to “balance it out.” Idk. Something about their immediate insistence seemed to go beyond ironic prediction of what would be normal or conservative, and into a secret hope.

    I wish Astead had pushed back more during the conversation. Leah seems incredibly disconnected.
    She is ‘insulted’ that folks are asking for a process instead of automatically handing the ticket over to Harris? Really?
    Only in 2024 can someone find the idea of a democratic process ‘insulting’

    • @joythought
      @joythought 2 месяца назад

      Leah said clearly she was going to remain loyal to Biden as long as he wanted to remain as the candidate and because she was not clear Harris would be given the support needed. Leah said that if there had been an open primary it would have contravened the rules of the party and it might have significantly damaged the party. She wasn't sure everyone had the good sense to avoid that. That doesn't mean she didn't have concerns about both Biden and Trump being too old to give their best to be the next President. We don't want the democratically elected President to be on the golf course having the country run by the Heritage Foundation or any other ideology think tank.
