Whenever a company tries to tell you that there was no space in the device for a headphone jack remember the iPod 7th generation exhisted
When a company wants to put a headphone jack on a phone, they will. Like Vivo did in the world's thinnest smartphone.
bro its to sell their more expensive bluetooth headphones, my new gigantic tablet dont even has a headphonejack, it makes no sense to me
Long time ago I had a little pocket radio. The radio itself, was thinner than its headphone jack.
Yeah, that removing the headphone jack BS was all about selling their own line of headphones.
The 7th? What about the freaking 6th gen?
@@clydemarshall8095 while the 6th gen is smaller height I used the 7th gen as it's thinner
You know that you are an official repairman when mum starts going to you for help with devices
I've also done repairs to my mum's devices; most recently the battery in her iPhone 8 Plus 😁
true achievement
Anyone whos a bit of a nerd can probably confirm that they are the go to tech in the family, even if they know nothing about such things.
no, its just the fact that you're a guy and women usually dont know sh.... about tech stuff at all.
@@realcyphox5919 Thats pretty sexist bro

Heck no im singing it with dankpods sound aowkwowk
The iPod Nano 5th, 6th, and 7th gen all had built in FM radios that used your headphone cable as an antenna.
0:26 is when he says it
@@lachlanlau I thought he was referring solely to the 7th gen. I'm mentioning that the feature existed at least as far back as the 5th. It's amusing to think about now given that most people use wireless earbuds which negate the radio on these devices. Heck, the 7th gen might be the sole one with blue tooth capability.
I believe you don't need certain headphones to use the radio on the 7th Gen
no, with the 7th gen (maybe 6th too) had a built in radio
with some of the other ipods you needed a specific radio cable to use the radio feature
@@clydemarshall8095 weird.. when i used mine it said i needed a radio remote
The nan 6th gen was great for running, with it’s built-in clip. It also had a radio.
Oh god this just reminded me of the absolute nightmare that was replacing the LCD of this model was for me. Luckily I thought ahead for once in my life and bought an extra digitiser because I knew I could very easily fuck up the display too. (Spoilers, I did) I'm not sure how you're supposed to do this without obliterating the LCD, the old one practically turned into dust.
And to top it all off, the frame got bent last second as I was fitting the display assembly back on. So now it's collecting dust and shit inside.
For the life of me I CANNOT find a replacement midframe anywhere online which is so incredibly annoying as I've abused the current one a lot and I wouldn't feel confident reusing it.
So yeah, now I'm left with a cute nano that has a lifted display which I REFUSE to reopen unless I have another LCD or just some extra parts with me. Dealing with nanos results in complete CARNAGE.
To the general viewer, please avoid working with those if you can, it's absolutely horrible, it's not a fun repair, and you'll end up with a working (hopefully) but very mangled tech sandwich
The 4th 5th and 3rd gens are doable repairs in my experience but any of the others end up with carnage
@@jml2343 4 and 5?? Doable?? Deary me, I must be dealing with a repair god here, I bow down to you
@@CrayCrayslab as long as they don't have an expanded battery it's possible. However I do agree that they are super hard and the screws are so tiny that they strip ALOT so watch out for that
Bro we’re not in school anymore don’t be writing essays for fun
@@i-.45 you ain't a teacher dawg, why you be reading them?
0:28 if you mean FM Radio then nope, the iPod Nano 5th generation had radio already, idk about 6th gen since it removed a few features cause of the form factor I guess but the 5th gen had radio.
Yes the 6g also have built in radio, and it’s very interesting how battery can last, I still using mine for jogging with the watch case and works great
My cousin had a nano 7th and I never saw it, but i did see the box with the manuals and pictures and stuff and I wanted to use one so badly, simply because the icons were circular. I haven't seen footage of one of these in action until this day and I'm super excited for it.
My friend had the same issues with his unit, and I wonder if it would work on this one too. He basically drained the battery completely flat and leave it in the drawer for a few weeks, and boom it was back working again
Good job sir , Why didn't you change the battery while the iPod was open ?
0:44 this is like the stupid camera bumps, just make the thing thicker so everything fits.
Your restoration and repair videos inspired me to order the parts to repair my old Nintendo dsi
Hugh
Could you put the earbuds face down on your heating table with a little bit of paper towel to pick up the wax instead of having to remove the mesh? Just an idea..
Replacing the power button ribbon cable is more fun in the iPod Nano 6th gen, Lol. I bought two just in case and good thing I did.
I love it when you say „ Soo This is it“
Mum will be sooooo happy
k, so theres an unboxing video posted by the man himself of this exact ipod.
i just love filtering out the most popular and recent videos and leaving the oldest there.
Hugh I love your videos l love the fact you breathe new life into technology
I will say this, I recently found this channel, and the content is great
this wouldn't have the honor of being in my Nugget dip bag 😂👀
say hi to Mrs Linda parker !
The nano 6th gen also had a radio
4:04 That's what he said.
Man you must really love your mom, I would have just got mine a different one.
the square touchscreen nano had a radio!
I own a light blue one of those similar issue as well
Built in radio? Like the touch had with headphones in?
I also removed the headphone mesh and its like a brand new☺️☺️
Great Video Hugh .Love Your Videos
videos like these reminds me why I consider mine a lost cause just because of a dead battery
U may make combo with touch and display together with UV glue or OCA. it may looks better than now
Where You Get Parts Of The Devices (Original Parts) ???
I had the same issue but 12 year old me decided it was a good idea to push against the glass which somehow worked and fixed the dead leds
Not the only Apple device to feature a radio. Also, not the only iPod to feature a radio either.
I think the weirdest is the 3rd gen shuffle
this is the vid i was looking for, my ipod 7th gen has the same issue, ill fix it :) btw are that screen from ifixit?
Why did you not replace battery also?
This is my only functioning iPod at present as my previous three nanos from the preceding two generations are currently broken.
absolute mad lad!
I used to have one of these!
Seems like your background music was on a bit too low volume when editing but you did a great job on repairing the device so it's fair play I would say
Way better than too high imo
I got this iPod when it came out and it only broke just this year. I used pretty 24/7, so this lasted awhile. They don’t build iPods or even devices like this anymore.
You should know that Apple stopped making iPods for good back in 2017
I have that iPod that needs a replaced battery would you be willing to do that? If so how much would you charge?
All of the other Nanos had built in radios too
I was looking for how to replace the battery since mine does not hold the charge. After all these years I guess the battery is gone. But looks like too much effort for me
The 6th gen had a radio as well.
I've wanted one of these for a while
The 6th Gen Nano also had a FM radio built in
Hello, is it possible to upgrade iPhone X into newer version as I saw some videos they make it into. But I don’t believe it will work properly. If it can be upgrade then it will save money and environment at same time. Anyhow you are expert in what you do and even though I am not a tech lover but your videos are very informative and with clear explanation. Keep it up
Are there good replacement batteries for this model?
The 6th gen also has a radio
I don’t remember ever seeing an iPod like this one. What year was it introduced?
2012. One colour (slate?) was dropped in 2013 and a few more colours were added in 2015. Died in 2017 alongside the shuffle.
My 6th gen nano has a radio too
I like the shuffle more...
I may be wrong but Didn’t the 6th Generation Nano have a built in radio as well?
Didn't the iPod Hi-Fi also include a radio? I know for a fact the 20th anniversary Macintosh did.
Aaand that was the last time that iPod got serviced everr hahaha
Hey do you fix iPod touches I got a fifth GEN and a six GEN that need battery replacements I haven’t found anyone that would would fix the battery replacements my iPad six GEN day is pretty fast and my 5 GEN doesn’t power on
Cannot for the battery becasue of the current.......
such a connector would introduce massive resistance and failure...
So good bro.
Great video but honestly, I wouldve replaced the battery while you had it open. Might as well while you were in there.
Agreed. Looked like he bent it a bit while removing it.
Hi Hugh Jeffreys,
Can you fix my iPhone 6s, it has a bad battery and screen. It has been opened before.
Thank you,
Benjamin
shout out to linda
Keep the film on it to protect-
Its like the ipod and the ipod tohch
You know the fact this tiny thing has an earphone slot says alot about Apples practices as a comapny.
You didn't replace the battery!??
aye the previous nano had a radio
Huge Effrys
This is exactly what I was looking for. But now I know I don't have the skills to do this. So my ipod has to go in the trash 😮💨
You mean rubbish
My mum has this iPod, it was okay at first but the small form factory does get annoying.
You mean small form factor
u just left the earpod covers off?
This was the best iPod I have used.
Omg is beautiful💗
I’m pretty sure I read “MEGA PINT” 🍺
You should colab with dankpods!
add a new os on that and play games
I am looking for someone to replace the battery on my Nano 7th generation. Any leads would be appreciated.thanks...Larry
Hugh Parker
Me after 2min holding the frame with the glue... 🙄 3min...🫠... ok its broken 4 ever 🫡. I love that you never give up :)
I'm surprised you didn't swap out the battery since you had it open already.
Because it would be too much of a pain to try to get the ribbon style cable undone without ruining the pads on the logic board. Then you have to get the new battery pads on there. Too much risk on an already working battery.
@@MrMega200 Too much of a risk? Are you kidding me? I’ve replaced batteries on IPod nano 2/3rd Gen models. It isn’t that difficult. Hugh was just lazy.
also just removing the mesh of the ear buds does not seem to be a quality level repair...
That battery suffered some serious bending while he removed it. It seems dangerous to just put it back in
@@MrMega200 can you post some videos to your channel?
I had this nano growing up, and while I prefer the 5th gen nano to it, I'm def nostalgic for the 7th gen.
My father has the 2nd gen, bought it brand new in 2006.
I have been using a 3rd gen for two years now, great device
@@pietrocavicchioli6128 3rd gen was my favourite. If they still made them (perhaps now with bluetooth) I'd totally buy one for the gym
I have the fifth gun, I prefer it over the 7th too
This 7g iPod was a replacement for my 5th gen one because of the battery not holding enough charge and of course the 30 pin cable getting outdated. The touchscreen was not as nice as using the wheel
The home button makes it look like a knock-off; I was surprised when I saw what the home button looked like
I don't think this is the only other iPod with built-in FM tuner. The 6th Gen iPod Nano that some wear like a watch with its aftermarket watch band case also has an FM tuner. I was one of those geeks that wore mine on my wrist and though the wire to the ear pods acted like the antenna, the reception was not very good but that was my Apple watch before there were Apple Watches.
I have a 5th gen nano with a radio as well.
I also have a 6th gen, I also used it as an Apple Watch haha. The radio worked quite well for me
6th gen was great for running. I’m sure it did use the headphone cable as an antenna.
some classics also have one when you use the radio remote on it.
This was one of the few versions I didn't purchase by this point I was listening to shuffles and then the iPod touch. I only listen to one radio station and that's NPR as most radio and all commercials annoy me, but I borrowed one at one point and I really liked the radio station option. I remember some geeks(!) Wearing the 6th generation as a watch.. but I had no idea that it had radio. The crux for me would be that you would have to have wired headphones and wearing it on my wrist would be.. weird??
That's why I just love channels like this where we can talk about our favorite parts of apple/ipod years afterwards... And if you're talented, even resurrect them! Cheers!
This device is so small, repairing it could generate more damage than you wanted to fix, but you solved it well and without too many additional costs, you were very good. Nice video as always.
I tried to replace battery from my 5th gen Nano, but I ended up broke Its click wheel, then I just threw it to trash can.
0:28 it isn’t the only apple device with a radio the 6th generation nano had a radio and the 5th generation
Hugh, I just want to thank you, you are the only reason I repair tech,as of posting this, I fixed a 2014 MacBook Air that had all of my family’s photos, the Mac was water damaged and corroded, thanks to you, I fixed it.
good job.
hey.. nice video, just one remark about the earbuds. i had the same issue about the volume, i removed the grills , but noticed that the bass was pretty much gone after that. I think since theres a thin layer of plastic behind the grill i assume that part was responsible for it.... i wonder does anybody els had the same experience after this fix?
I just bought some decent headphones from audio Technica, the sound was much better from the get go.
I don't bother with apple headphones anymore and yes too have had the bass issue.
@@Anoalekontrieger wow, some over-ear headphones from a company specialized in audio equipment really do sound better than some cheap-a** in-ears from a company that usually rips their customers off?? get out of town.
I've cleaned mine twice now with some alcohol in a small bottle with needle a tip
You are correct, the mesh he removed is part of the acoustic tuning of the earpods and should not be taken off. Best course of action would be soaking it in a bit of IPA and using something like a Watchmaker blower to suck up the melted earwax
+1 this is bad way to fix it
The 6th gen had a built in radio as well, the headphones you use serve as the antenna. I bought both the 6th and 7th gen on OfferUp just to have them because they're so neat! I really wish the 6th gen had lightning though. The 30-pin is fitting, but you could probably get a bump in battery with the smaller lightning port.
@KAAN CAN I know, it's just a shame. I wish it could've been a similar era to the 7th gen and gotten lightning, or maybe been updated with it, it's a really neat little design.
Btw FM radios were the included in all the nanos from 5-7 and all the classics 3-7 can use a special apple in-line remote that connects to the dock connector that gives it an fM radio (plug it in and the hidden radio UI will appear on the main menu) also ALL the Nanos can use this attachment aswell
since the iPod nano 4 it was internal fm receiver
The flat flex that separated from the touchscreen was likely Z-taped in place. It's an adhesive tape which has conductive strands running perpendicular to the surface and the adhesive is heat activated.
The mesh piece is part of acoustic tuning of the earbuds and should ideally be washed out in a suitable solvent and reinstalled back.
wait why don’t you just clean the headphones with a tooth brush and alcohol
Never seen thank for video😘😘
This was my last mp3 player before moving to a smartphone for music etc. I cracked the screen and was able to replace it, but I bent the frame badly and it was never the same again... I'm sure Mum will be very happy. :)
It's easier to just go back to 2012 and buy a new one.
True

John 3:16-21
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
i still have one of these, albeit dinged up in some corners. i love this gen of nano because of how thin it is, but the lack of storage and slightly difficult repairs stinks :(
Well if you hate the lack of storage you should get rid of it altogether
That explains why my non-Lighting EarPods are so quiet!
How many hours did this take you and how many hours do you think it would take a beginner whose most complicated work was putting together a gaming PC from individual parts?
Took me about 4 hours
