  • The B.C. government says it will ban drug use in all public spaces, including parks and hospitals, as part of a major overhaul of its drug decriminalization pilot project.
    The move comes amid a raging debate over the province’s approach to the ongoing deadly toxic drug crisis, including decriminalization and “safe supply.”
    Possession of up to 2.5 grams of a variety of drugs - including heroin, cocaine and methamphetamine - will remain decriminalized in private residences, places where people are legally sheltering plus overdose prevention and drug-checking sites.
    Richard Zussman and Keith Baldrey have more on the reasons for the changes.

    DJ Larkin is saying that keeping up safe consumption spaces is more important than the safety of non-drug users? That, in the event one cannot be had without the other, we should favour the minority of street drug users over the rights of the majority of the population who just want to be able to run a business, earn a living and have the street in front clean? We have lost touch with the balance of needs and rights in society. We have also assumed that just because you're a drug user, that it is all upon the rest of society to get you off drugs; that the drug user has no volition, no responsibility in getting clean. This is not what former drug users say. In fact, those who quit, say just the opposite.

  • @Michael-pg7rv
    @Michael-pg7rv 10 дней назад

    It never made sense to me. How is making it easier for drug users to consume drugs with no repercussions from the law going to curb drug use? They should take a harder stance. If you are caught using or in possession of elicit drugs then it should be mandatory 30 days in a treatment centre. Penalty for selling or distributing drugs also should be more severe with upwards of life in prison. Make it impossible, otherwise we are just making it easier for people to die.

Freedom of drug addicts should not be put above Investment value and public interest, good move, they should have never allowed it in the first place
