@Juvenal Catullus Just because they influenced him it doesnt mean that they're better. DeNiro's best performance was in King of Comedy, which is far away from DDL in There Will Be Blood, and Nicholson basically plays the same thing (he is very good, but not as good as DDL)

A masterpiece from A to Z. No other actor could have portrayed this character in the movie as Day-Lewis did. Same goes for "Lincoln". British actresses and actors are the finest.
Perhaps the single most immersive performance ever put on film. You absolutely, 100% know you’re seeing Daniel Plainview and not an actor. Every single aspect of that character was perfectly realised. He’s on screen for almost the whole movie and set a new standard for how to possess a character.
Often times I got goosebumps to watch him acting so those never leave me alone when I confront similar scenes in any kinds of movie. I must have been addicted with him.
It always bugged me how Helen Mirren just said and the Oscar goes to Daniel Day Lewis. Even though everyone knew he'd win, the suspense of "and the Oscar goes to..." is important.
Do you think that it's a coincidence that Meryl Streep did the same thing (withholding the suspense) when awarding him the Oscar for "Lincoln"? Check the video. I think it's because they know he's an amazing actor and the other nominees are fodder to him lol
@@Xplozhun85 Except Joaquin Phoenix completely owned him in 2012 with his performance in The Master. DDL gave an Oscar baity performance and definitely didn't deserve the award that year.
no actor in history of actors deserves more credit than daniel day lewis in this movie - just an amazing performance by one of greatest actors we have ever seen
Daniel day Lewis as Ebenezer Scrooge has to be the greatest casting decision of all time!! It’s like the Academy went ‘we can’t not give that casting an Oscar’, this film is literally changing the industry! 🎄🎄🎄🎅👑👑
One of the best years for acting Oscars. Day-Lewis, Cotillard, Swinton and Bardem are some of the most powerful actors alive. To see them celebrated in a single year was so great.
It's so amazing, astounding, how different Daniel Day Lewis is from the characters he plays. Some great actors often take something from themselves to embody a character. They pull something they can relate to. Daniel just becomes someone else. It's incredible. Such a beauty. Such a legend. We're all lucky to be able to watch him act!!
Daniel Day Lewis has to be the greatest actor ever. I have not found one movie he doesn’t dissolve into without hesitation. I cannot find him in the characters he wears. A few actors can do it but he has mastered the art.
Its hard, but here's my top 10 of favorite actors: 1. Sir DDL, who else? 2. Philip Seymour Hoffman (RIP, sorely missed..) 3. Gary Oldman 4. Al Pacino 5. Heath Ledger 6. Christoph Waltz 7. Joaquin Phoenix 8. Michael Fassbender 9. Benedict Cumberbatch 10.Willem Dafoe Runners up: Adrien Brody, Ryan Gosling (outrageously good in Half Nelson), Daniel Bruhl (Rush baby), Samuel L Jackson (sooo good in Django, Pulp), Michael Shannon, Casey Affleck & Leo (The Wolf & ofcourse...Gilbert Grape!) Always good: Michael Caine, Robert de Niro, Sean Penn, Christopher Walken, Chris Cooper, Ed Harris, Jack Lemmon (especially Glengarry Glenn Ross), Viggo Mortensen (especially Eastern Promises & as The one and only King) Honorable (role) mention: Mickey Rourke; pure revelation & sooo Oscar worthy in The Wrestler, Matthew Mc Conaughey in DBC & The Wolf; John Hurt in The Elephant Man; Ethan Hawke in Boyhood & Before Trilogy, Rik Mayal in all things comedy; Ian Mc Kellen as Gandalf, Sir Christopher Lee for all things scary, Tom Cruise: astonishing in Magnolia, makes U forget about Scientology (talk about scary things) for a while...
O yeah, Robert Duval: belongs on the list too! For The Godfathers and The Apostle and so much more. This list is ofcourse not definitive...For example I also like Sam Rockwell, Kevin Bacon & Christian Bale in a lot of their work. And did I really forget an honorable mention for Jamie Foxx as Ray, and Edward Norton in Primal Fear & American History X?!
Top 5 best actors in alive today 1.Daniel Day Lewis 2.Tom Hanks 3.Denzel Washington 4.Russel Crowe 5.Leonardo Di Caprio it's a shame DD Lewis didn't work much in the 90's because he'd probably have 5 best actor awards by now.

Often times I got goosebumps to watch him acting so those never leave me alone when I confront similar scenes in any kinds of movie. I must have been addicted with him.
one of the greatest actors of alltime and the best of his generation! he is in the class of actors like Al Pacino, Humphrey Bogart & Marlon Brando
I can't believe this man played Daniel Plainview.
DDL is a fucking legend.
Greatest Actor Of All Time.
Literally every one who was nominated are my favourite but he deserves it.
1. Sir DDL
2. Christoph Waltz
3. Denzel Washington
my top 3
Top 2 are spot on, i cant agree with number three though. Robin Williams?
What a gracious speaker
no actor in history of actors deserves more credit than daniel day lewis in this movie - just an amazing performance by one of greatest actors we have ever seen
Now that's how you accept an Oscar. No pretentiousness or preaching - just modesty and manners.
LOVE his chivalrous bow to Helen.
Daniel day Lewis as Ebenezer Scrooge has to be the greatest casting decision of all time!! It’s like the Academy went ‘we can’t not give that casting an Oscar’, this film is literally changing the industry! 🎄🎄🎄🎅👑👑
In all honesty.. Greatest performance of all time.
Why wasn't Jonny Greenwood's score nominated it's mental.
Cause there wasn't only original music in TWBB
alphonsetram1 It is by majority. It's fine if there is some unoriginal pieces. the winner for that year was Atonement and it had a piece by Debussy
2 years later: I don't know then. It was one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard
There are two types of actors.
1. Daniel Day-Lewis &
2. Others
Greatest of all time
fact
This will be remembered as the greatest performance in the history of cinema
When I hear "Hollywood, Oscar, etc", my heart replies.."Daniel Day Lewis"
There’s no way on earth any actor can outdo this incredible performance. Simply the best of all time 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
His acting in this film blew me away
0:48 Johnny's like, "Oh yeah! There will be blood".
Nominees:
Daniel Day Lewis
and
Four other nominees who practised saying "It's an honour to be nominated" for months
"thank you very much indeed, thank you" aww he so cuteeee
I can't explain how humble this guy is, I met him twice in Ny he was just amazing. THE BEST ACTOR EVER...
Bless the greatest actor of all time IMHO...
don't forget 'The Last of the Mohicans", "The Age of Innocence" (my favorite!)
'closest i'll ever come to a knighthood'....... Daniel was wrong
Lol...was thinking the same ;)
The best leading role performance I've ever seen.
He is such a sweetheart! Nothing like his characters. I love him.
Daniel Day Lewis has to be the greatest actor ever. I have not found one movie he doesn’t dissolve into without hesitation. I cannot find him in the characters he wears. A few actors can do it but he has mastered the art.
Its hard, but here's my top 10 of favorite actors:
1. Sir DDL, who else?
2. Philip Seymour Hoffman (RIP, sorely missed..)
3. Gary Oldman
4. Al Pacino
5. Heath Ledger
6. Christoph Waltz
7. Joaquin Phoenix
8. Michael Fassbender
9. Benedict Cumberbatch
10.Willem Dafoe
Runners up: Adrien Brody, Ryan Gosling (outrageously good in Half Nelson), Daniel Bruhl (Rush baby), Samuel L Jackson (sooo good in Django, Pulp), Michael Shannon, Casey Affleck & Leo (The Wolf & ofcourse...Gilbert Grape!)
Always good: Michael Caine, Robert de Niro, Sean Penn, Christopher Walken, Chris Cooper, Ed Harris, Jack Lemmon (especially Glengarry Glenn Ross), Viggo Mortensen (especially Eastern Promises & as The one and only King)
Honorable (role) mention: Mickey Rourke; pure revelation & sooo Oscar worthy in The Wrestler, Matthew Mc Conaughey in DBC & The Wolf; John Hurt in The Elephant Man; Ethan Hawke in Boyhood & Before Trilogy, Rik Mayal in all things comedy; Ian Mc Kellen as Gandalf, Sir Christopher Lee for all things scary, Tom Cruise: astonishing in Magnolia, makes U forget about Scientology (talk about scary things) for a while...
bob de niro is the best
Robert Duval and Gene Hackman
O yeah, Robert Duval: belongs on the list too! For The Godfathers and The Apostle and so much more. This list is ofcourse not definitive...For example I also like Sam Rockwell, Kevin Bacon & Christian Bale in a lot of their work. And did I really forget an honorable mention for Jamie Foxx as Ray, and Edward Norton in Primal Fear & American History X?!
You should watch angel heart and rumble fish with Mickey rourke. He has always been amazing. He just went missing for a while.
It's rare that I agree or even care about the Oscars, but DAMN did Daniel earn this Oscar that year. Amazing performance.
This is my favourite performance by any actor in any movie
Best of all time category. Most deserved
