“No, I hit him with a car.” That was so unexpected and beautifully delivered!
...and Seth's reaction to it 🤣
I saw holdovers twice it was such a beautiful piece about grief, loneliness and connection
I saw it once and have been dying to see it again, but I worried it wouldn’t be as good the second time. I’ll go for it though!
It's people who watch these movies more than once (and pay to do so) that enable people like Alexander Payne to keep making them.
I went to see it a second time and if anything it hit me harder. Such wonderful filmmaking! Loved everything about it
@@acs12305 I saw it a second time and figured out a few things that I didn't figure out the first time.
I've always love this man's talent. Especially when he's in an independent drama movie where he fits perfectly in those type of movies. Paul Giamatti is criminally underrated, hopefully he gets some award nomination next year for The Holdovers
"That's a swimmer's run." is so brutal, in so many ways.
She's got a face just perfect for radio
The Holdovers is so good. A legitimately delightful movie
I want to live in that movie
@@armandoarrojo9841 Same
Exelent movie
Paul is such a compassionate magnificent human being. That's why he is such a great actor!
Seth's interviews are always so good -- natural and relaxed.
This was such a great movie, this man deserves soooo many awards for his performance
Agree 100%
THIS is PG’s master class performance.
Stellar!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The ensemble cast was superb. 👏👏
Bravo to the casting director!👏👏
Giamatti is one of the most versatile and likeable actors I've had the pleasure to watch on screen.
Saw it in a theater. Excellent film. Although the film is set 3 years before I was born, it does a good job of “feeling” like the period, now over 50 years ago.
It was a great film. I wish I saw this film in the theater
Went to a school just like this in the 90s, god this movie got so much right. Saw it with my parents who didn’t like it, they had worked at those schools and took the many subtle criticisms personally.
Which I see as a positive.
Need more details! You went to a prep school and it was a rip!
One of my favorite actors of all time ❤
Me too
I'm thankful for Paul Giamatti. He's one of those rare American actors who is just so classically talented in a way that you really only see in British actors. I love his podcast too
The Holdovers was my favorite movie of 2023. Paul Giamatti's performance was great. I just adore this movie.
Wow the shout out is amazing 🤩 Thank you Seth and Paul 🎉
Has Seth asked you to be on his show yet? I feel like they don't have enough contact lens techs as guests in general.
Haha that would be fun but no I have not be “contacted” 😂
Your take on high school sports cracked me up. Laughed so hard.
Duets
Underrated & one of his best movies
I still need to see that John Adams miniseries. Been on my list forever.
Wait until July 4, 2026, exactly 200 years after Adams's death.
Don't wait. Watch it and watch it again! I rewatched it earlier this year. Such a great show!
Paul Giamatti is one of the most naturally hilarious people ever😅
Thoroughly enjoyed the movie and Paul was fantastic in it. Got to see it in the theater from the movie too!! So good.
I loved sideways too, my goshI’m going to have to rewatch that again. So good. Paul can surely pick great scripts.
I could watch a Giamatti marathon and never get bored.
Paul Giamatti is always absolutely delightful!! 😂😂
Love Paul Giamatti. One of my most favorite actors of all time.
When Seth laughs at the clip, you know it’s gonna be good
"We'd have to give YOU a head start" absolutely slaughtered me, that was really good
Great joke
Great film. The man is a wonderful and kind person in real life.
I want to see a Day Drinking with Paul and Seth!
A quick glance at Zach Ripps' IMDb page proves he's been around for a few years doing contacts for many different shows and movies.
This guy is so underrated ,just wachbthe movie ... top notch acting ....instead of asking him how was to have half a eye covered
Loved Paul in The Hangover too!
New Haven's finest... my worst pitching performance was vs. Choate when Paul was there!
Loved him in Cinderella Man!
I'm reminded of my gym teacher yelling at me to "run normal!" What a dick. Still in my head 35 years later.
There is something about the movie that I feel like rewatching it.
I love the smell of the pool. I also like the ambiance of Lady of the Water because of the pool.
That film was atorcious
How Paul never won an Oscar is unbelievable. One of the greatest actors ever
This film totally deserved to be nominated for best picture
I loooooved the movie, both Paul and Devine were amazing!
Choate, Deerfield! My my. Prep school rivalries.
I love Paul, but I know him because of his dad and Pete. That’s one of the most heartbreaking stories of all time.
wouldn't have minded seeing Pete Rose punished in a way he deserved.
Proud to be from Worcester Mass, great movie
Brilliant actor…always great in any movie he plays
Great interview !
win win is another favorite of mine
you guys, 30 monedas, season 2, he is so good. epic actor
My dad went to Choate. I miss him.
DOMINIC FUCKING SESSA KILLED IN THIS MOVIE
Paul should play Billy Joel ❤️🎸🎶
Then you gotta find someone kick ass to play Billy Joel before 2000
Oh yes I agree. He looks like him a little bit
Great interview. Where's Part 2?
Fun interview
Love Giamatti
We love paul Giamatti and seth meyers
Day drinking with these 2 would be fun.😊
I just watched it today. What a beautiful movie.
Amblyopia! And it can be in the vertical plane as well as the horizontal. ;)
Love Paul, loved The Holdovers, Seth is the best late night host 😊
Seems to be Paul's year. He just won the Golden Globe Best Actor. He inhabits his role in The Holdovers.
Zach Ripps gathering his whole family in front of the screen.
😂 you ain’t lying
Hope he wins an award for this movie...
He is not the favorite. Cillian Murphy is but, it's possible. They might give it to him for his body of work in his career. In my opinion, he should have won an Oscar for Sideways. That was absolutely his best movie.
I adore him.😘
Paul went to Choate? My niece went there!
Fun interview.
The Holdovers is a great movie!
Girls swimming was in the fall, thank goodness. I don't think i could have done it in the winter.
So much swimming bashing! It's a glorious sport!
The great Paul Giamatti!!!
What 'Whiplash" did to J.K. Simmons "The Holdovers" should do to Giamatti.
On the scale of acting, you have two sides of the spectrum. On one end you have the Dwayne Johnson's, who make the movie about themselves, have massive egos, and never try to improve their craft because they believe THEY themselves ARE the movie and what people are going to see. On the other end you have the Paul Giamatti's, who act to make the movie about THE MOVIE, they essentially have zero egos, and always do what they can to give the best performance, playing to exactly what the character and stories NEED, they are APART of the movie and do all they can to help in making the best movie they can. I always favor the Paul Giamatti's.
Going to see this again for 2nd time
The Holdovers is a great movie.
I highly recommend it.
Just realized that we NEED to get HIM and MATTHEW LILLARD into the SAME MOVIE playing GOOFY CRANKY BROTHERS.
Must have been tough taking the mercedes van from Choate to Deerfield.
Giamatti has transitioned in to George Carlin.
HEY! it's Story Lord!!! I know that voice anywhere...
Great actor, loved the movie
He is the greatest
What's up with beeps? Is that the show or YT?
Swimming's one of those things unless you're doing it, you don't wanna be there.
It's not a period film, I didn't follow the first few minutes and was wondering if this was just a modern hypertraditionnalist school until they mentioned Viet-Nam and seeing everyone smoking indoors but even then until they go out of the school it feels quite timeless. It captures the vibes of a 70's movie with the grain and the music and some "matter of fact" exposition but it never tries hard to remind you you're in the the seventies like modern media often do when they choose a recent decade as a gimmick.
No questions/ mentions about John Adams after talking about it for so long before
"Sweet leaf" walk on music?
Not being picky but Deerfield is outside of Boston?
The Holdovers best movie of the year.
Private school privillege in acting is everywhere
I highly disagree, combination of coconut sun screen and the mild chlorine smell, I loved that. Anytime I find coconut scented air freshener, I remember my swimming and diving days.
East coast is indoor pools
Incorrect. We may know him from “Big Fat Liar” and other films
John Adams in a liquor store
😎
Suggestion for Seth: remember the two ears and one mouth rule.
His show his rules
Was suprised that Paul is so lukewarm on Billions. Thought he liked the show but when he was asked about it on his recent Variety interview he was very "meh"......wished he could have faked his love lol....
I really like the actor but I take a big issue with his portrayal of Deerfield Academy being "outside of Boston"! Technically it is, but so is Washington DC or any other point. It's in the same State but there's more to MA than Boston. Yankee Candle, started in the area (Hoyoke/S.Hadley) and then moved to Deerfield and became a popular place to visit, especially for Christmas. They had a magical set-up and a Santa that authentically looked the part, no makeup needed. I brought my kids there for years. There was a famous massacre there and have a historically preserved section with intact houses etc, where you can see how people lived in colonial times. But its clear on the other side of the state, Western Ma, 100 miles away from Boston! People don't have the accent, it's simply not considered by anyone that Deerfield is anywhere near/outside our capital city. Sorry about the diatribe but it gets old hearing how MA seems to have just the one city. Dunkin Donuts & Boston! We're more than that! PS, I swear I don't work for tourism or whatever, just a long time resident reacting to a long held trigger
The film takes place at the fictional "Barton Academy". It can be wherever it wants to.
@@kyleliegel Yes, a fictional academy could be anywhere. He was talking about the very real school he went to in Deerfield and described it right outside of Boston. He wasn't talking about a movie location, he was talking about the school he attended, big difference
100 miles is not far! When i think of mass i think of the show This Old House! and now Mortadella Head
@@Notturnoir 100 miles is pretty far! Maybe not in Montana or Alaska, definitely in our rather compact State. More tho, not only do people have different accents, it's a different vibe. We're a lot more earthy-crunchy, nobody ever accuses Boston of that. Boston is like that out of town cousin you only see on occasion, full of mischief, a bit naughty, lots of fun but you're relieved when they go back home and you survived it.
I loved him in The Princess Bride!
He's not in that. Or you were joking?
@@wendydarling5790 I was joking... I used to get him confused with Wallace Shawn.
@@venusboys3thats just mean, but he could do the role!
John Dies at the End
that intro clip is a huge spoiler...
Or ambliopia
U gotta be kidding me
Uhbillions?
Shockingly overrated film
Such a stupid, spoilery choice for a clip from The Holdovers (a wonderful film, btw).
Thanks for the warning
Your comment makes it spoilery
@@jpjordan90 pointing out a spoiler is a spoiler. mmmmkay.
@@shmackatrotsky5394 we didn't know it was a spoiler until you mentioned it and explained it, mmkay?
Agree, wrong scene to show… dont watch it
Strabismus
It runs in my mom's side of the family but we always just called it lazy eye. My older brother and I both have it, and going back a few generations before us as well.
Good, but slow moving, boring characters, but well acted. 3 out of 5 stars.
Thank GAWD I didn't see this before I saw The Holdovers. This is only one of the biggest secrets in the film. SHAME ON LATE NIGHT for showing this. TOTAL SPOILER
