It is just okay when you want to pass someone on the street. We won’t feel rude about it and no need to say excuse me either. Just don’t push down the person on your way. 😂
Thank you for that insight! Sometimes it is difficult to understand what is acceptable behavior and what is rude behavior. We definitely do not want to be rude! ☺️
Yes, that does seem like a reasonable response. However, I sell them here. Anyone say anything to us? And I wonder if it's because we are foreigners and they assume we won't understand what they're saying. But, I don't really hear Taiwanese say excuse me to each other either. So, there is theory and what is good in theory and then there's the actual practice.
If no one talked about the ''China'' thing, you wouldn't even know it existed, but it's pretty much one of the first thing people asked me about when I got back to Australia.
@@Justin_Leah that was a very polite way to say, or a shorter version can just say “借過 jie4 guo4”. Not sure why you haven’t heard of it, maybe they don’t say it in Tainan😅
Or maybe we are never in anybody's way 😜 But I don't think for the 2 years we have been here. Anyone has ever spoken words out loud to get past us. More than likely, whether it's in Taipei or Hualien or Kaohsiung people just walk past or push past us if we are in the way
Any sort of noise would be better than just getting zipped past unawares. It can be startling and at times it can be dangerous. I don't know how many feet I've stepped on, I hope I haven't broken any toes! 🫣~JB
Taiwanese people are level headed and they elect government officials whose primary goal in life is to make their country better. They are the most knowledgeable people about China and they understand that their courage and preparation are the only thing standing between them and China. Maybe that's why that place produced brave people such as Dr. John Cheng, Brandon Tsay and the family of three who brought down a knife wielding loonie.

跟其他旅遊景點、大山大水的國家相比，台灣不是光鮮亮麗的旅遊目標。
但台灣就是個 舒適自由、平易近人、善良熱心、規矩守法但又不會壓迫死板 的國家
最後謝謝你們提到中國的威脅. Kayla 說得很棒，其實台灣人並不是忽視中國的威脅
如果他們真的入侵，我們一定會站出來維護我們的生活與體制。但在那之前，所有人還是認真過好自己的日子。

It was great to FINALLY meet! It was great exploring Tainan and hanging out around the city. Especailly the food! Ophhh

火車或大眾交通是空間狹窄的地方，當你放行李時，勢必會擋住道路，但因為不是下車時刻，所以我想大部分台灣人會選擇靜靜等待或是幫助你放行李後，才通過，畢竟就在火車上趕時間也去不了哪裡，除非尿急！但如果是下車時刻，我想對方就會說出“不好意思！借過一下”趕著下火車！

you can simply say “ 不好意思，借過一下 （bu hao yi si, jie guo yi xia “ means excuse me, let me pass in a sec”

台灣人沒有那麼介意別人從他身邊快步走過，因為別人在趕時間，這是大家都能接受的。你們真的想太多了。

我不認為這想太多了，去到別的國家甚至自己國內多想一點，尤其替別人著想不要打擾別人方面，多想總是好一點，至於感到不愉快方面或負面感受當然能盡量反向（generous)思考更好，如果有不了解或誤會引起的不愉快，像這樣公開直接諮詢解惑的話，是個很好的方式及管道。
我自己是需要別人讓路，一定會說“不好意思，借過”，及撞到人會道歉的人，除非很擁擠的地方，本來就到處人擠人人撞人的情況就不會道歉。但台灣當然還是有些人禮儀素質沒有很好，但（中）南部尤其比較偏鄉，然後中年以上的（男）人“比例上”（不是歧視偏見）有較多的機率路過撞到人不懂得道歉。
