Hello, Mr. Go7, King of the Penguins. Since we are having a hype tier list, do you think it might be a good idea to rework some Cos? I feel some of them are completely wasted, as things stand. A first, obvious example would be Tier 0 Cos. Since they are perma-banned, they basically don't exist, but some of them actually have interesting mechanics. Let's consider Colin, for example. His gimmick could be interesting: you're enticed to get greedy and save funds, in order to get the most benefit out of his power. But if you're too greedy, you'll lose map control and get punished. This CO should be all about handling a weak early-game / day-to-day and mounting a counter-attack when you get to use the power. Unfortunately, as things stand, he is completely game-breaking, so even if you like the Colin concept, you never get to play him. If Tier 0 Cos got nerfed into a league, playable state, they could bring some diversity into lower tier match-ups. We'd have more different Cos, more gimmicks, statistically less mirror match-ups… Another example would be the anti-hype Cos you ranked there. Let's consider Olaf, for example. His power is actually a cool mechanic, in my opinion: it's like a reversed Adder power, where you slow down enemy units instead of hastening your own. Olaf could lead to interesting front switch moves, as his opponent would have trouble transferring units to the new position Olaf is attacking. Unfortunately, as things stand, the most optimal strategy typically is to spam his global damage super power, turning Olaf into a boring global damage Co, instead of the tricky, snow user he could be. I understand that AWBW is trying to be as faithful as possible to the original games, but perhaps it might not be a terrible idea to add some depth to the Co pool?
I'd love a balance patch that either brings some tier 0's down or just makes them more balanced in their own tier so it could be included in global league. Not going to happen of course XD so public games is where they will be residing for the foreseeable future. I'm not sure if Colin is fixable in a way that doesn't make him just die before popping off. His play style of surviving the early game and then crushing when powers come online are filled by Eagle and the global damage COs currently. Not as extreme as Colin of course, but it is similar. I do think that Olaf's COP is much more hype than his super, but snow in general can be pretty miserable to play in so I'd be hesitant to expand on that. Ideally both players should be enjoying themselves even if losing and not being to move units is not fun.
The sonja mains could be seen as the most sadistic bunch right next to kanbei players. Her units sitting there with 50% counter dmg and And that symbol is that unit 10? Ooor was the unit i fought like 3 turna before? Did she heal her unit above the mark where i can one shot? Does she has vision on my ambush units? Can she through my units hiding in the forest? Im kinda glad we dont see more people playing sonja.
First half of the video I was like: " I never agreed that much with a tierlist ever before". However, Jess in D? That's harsh! As there's the so called Stealthfighter SigmaGrindset with her! But probably is just my standard game point of view. Would put her Top A tier. Else, I would swap Javier with Nell, Defense is just boring. Glad to hear you like it! I must admit that the Jess stealthfighter is hype, which is hard to do for stealths... but Top of A!?! Ahead of Koal and Lash? That's very generous. I could be convinced that she could make it into C tier, but no way does she make it past B tier. She feeds into the tank meta too much. I can see swapping Javier and Nell, if you haven't had your heart torn asunder and stomped on in front of your very eyes by her. Javier does stop one side from indirect stalling, but not his own XD So he isn't perfect in that way. I have to give Sami a hard no for getting into S tier, the hq cheese is not hype and is one of those things that is felt before anyone even takes a turn. I could be convinced that Sasha belongs in A tier, she is at the tail of S anyway. I think Flak in S or A is a personal choice, so I'd let that slide. Sensei is a CO who can lose the game based on map spawn so I can't raise him up, that's incredibly anti-hype. I'd be fine with lowering Hachi. I was pretty forgiving. I could see Sturm at the top of C, it is pretty similar to the bottom of B. If you're raising Flak up to S then I think it makes sense to raise Jugger up too, they are pretty much paired together, I dunno about going all the way to B tier, but that's just me. I'd be fine with Colin at the top of F, he's got the meme's, but no way would I bring Olaf with him. His hype is way too situational and brings the feelsbads when you play against him.

However less Copter spaming as opposed to other in tier 4, and emphazises more on med tank, wich hypes me personally. I don't really have experience with Sensei, just played him in fun matches. For me the most fun tier zero CO, even over sturm, he hypes me WAY more than Hachi. Raising Jugger seems valid. Glad you agree with Colin. Raising Olaf with him seemed a bit ambitious, now that you say that. Still would put him infront of Kanbei. Kanbei is just to stupid. Perhaps even infront of VB as Olaf has it's normal power plays going for him, is one tier lower than VB and global damage is nice vs defense, wich is another + in hype. But both seem very close. The one frustration comes from d2d the other from SCOP, when playing against them.
@@adept7497 One of the biggest reasons there are so many starting black boats on hq's in fog is because of Sami HQ cheese. We're talking starting infantry walking over and capping the HQ kind of cheese. Or base skip for APC boost to HQ and then body block cheese. It is a problem XD Often times it requires a large economic sacrifice to defend against and is something you have to decide right away, because they could also just not do it and then you are incredibly far behind. In standard you don't have that as much since you can see all the movements of course. For Sensei his COP and SCOP spawn infantry and mech going left to right and top to bottom through your cities on the map. So if you are in the top left and you are fighting into the bottom right you will spawn units in your backline first meaning that once you are close to the unit cap you will never spawn close to the front lines. Conversely if you are fighting from the bottom right you will always be spawning from your most forward cities so you are always going to have more units to fight with. That's what makes him so anti-hype, in combination with his restricted play style. His spawn location determines how good he is in a match by a lot since he regularly reaches unit cap. The more right and the more to the bottom he starts the better for him. Nothing is lamer than losing because you were player 1 or player 2. Rachel, Sturm, and Von Bolt have a similar thing going on but it is only for tiebreaks for missile targets so it isn't nearly so bad. I'd be fine with raising Olaf above Kanbei because of the COP spam option. Kanbei is real dumb.
@@Go7Penguin counterpoint - pulling it off requires a meticulous understanding of opening patterns and your opponents tendencies. Its also a hard punish to tank first, tank forever playstyle (very not hype) while itself gets punished by fast recons (a little more hype). I'm not talking about hq cheeses where you just build an ApC day 2 and rush it in ans hope it works - I'm talking about an hq cheese that doesn't hit at the fastest timing but when it does arrive you have 3 inf and an ApC (and if you're sturm, a hype co, two recons even) to create a full wall. That just barely holds the thin red like against a swarm of inf (and one not hype tank) for a join cap You also only get one chance at it vs someone (and a very limited chance against everyone else since word spreads fast) and then it's forever countered on a map. So it's max risk max reward, cannot be spammed, happens really fast, but has a niche viability. Its the piperunner of openings.
@@Kantbei It can be really flashy, but hype should be good for everyone involved. 7 day games are not hype and can leave one player devastated. Similarly optimization of openings and strategy is not hype, neither are walls. It is a real tough sell
If you were looking for content I was wondering about the average funds CO powers drain: I was keeping track of Rachel’s and found I was doing 15-18% of total income and then thought “yeah but is it better than max blast?”
I'm 100% with you on Sonja. When she's in her element (fog of war). With good planning on your end and a few blunders by your opponent, she can really start to punch above her weight class. And I think she's even a soft counter to Sensei. (I've actually beat a sensei player as sonja lol)
@@Go7Penguin it took alot of luck on my end to be fair. But, in FoW, your average sensei player is going to rush out their three units, Infintry, Mechs and B-copters. Planning ahead and producing anti airs, and artillery basically wins you the early game. And if your sensei player panics and pops their little power, it stalls his super which is good. And when he does get his super. You should have med tanks and neo tanks, (maybe a too fighter in case he builds a bomber or more copters) which mechs struggle against and sensei really can't keep up with. On top of which, Sonja's counter break basically gives you a turn to breathe which helps tremendously in that sensei cant zerg rush you for a turn
@@Go7Penguin more or less. It was a long as hell fight. By the end, I had destroyed over 100 infintry and mech units. And when you fight sensei. Always put something on top of his cities. It makes him far less effective.
Very good list, although I think a couple COs lost context with their tier. Colin in T1 is extremely hype imo because he feels weak in it. I'd say the same for Nell too, who to me still feels like she's finding her place in T1/T2. Also exquisite taste putting Sasha in S tier lol, I'm sure that will turn some heads. And one last thing, Jess used to be one of the hypest picks in T4 until last year when everyone started figuring out how strong she was in fog. On standard maps I think it's very challenging to find maps where she excels, so I'd personally put her up a tier.
I think hype on Colin is a hard sell. But I could be too focused on team games. The Nell hype is an illusion! It will crack the moment she lets you down and leaves your plans in shambles x.x All she promises is falsehoods! The False Prophet of Luck! No one is more hype in tier 1 than Sasha. I shall die on this hill. People don't like her because she disrupts powers, but that is good! She mixes up the game and punishes people playing the same old same old. She's also got a great matchup against Von Bolt, in my opinion. I would not be against someone putting Jess in C tier. It is kind of why I put her at the top of D tier. But, she really feeds into that tank meta heavily and feels like a discount Max so I'm fine with keeping her in the same tier as him.
@@Go7Penguin Well yeah, Nell has to let you down sometimes or else it wouldn't be luck ;). I'd personally be down to see a mode where you always roll a 50%, I think she'd be even stronger there. Interesting you say that about Sasha, I'm also a believer, since historically Sasha vs VB has been a classic matchup that can go either way. Lots of people seem to think it's VB favored.
@@dpsiduck7832 It is just that she shows all positive, so she gets your hopes up x.x you expect to crash and burn with Flak, Juygger, and Sonja, but not Nell. Not 100% luck damage Nell. She would be pretty ridiculous with auto-mid rolls. Her infantry would do 10% to megatanks on road XD What a way to lose a megatank. Her recons would be chasing down all those poor battlecopters. I think the auto-luck roll would be bad for the game, but I could be wrong and a little mode to test it out would be great for like April Fools or something. Glad we are on the same page with Sasha :D VB is a lot easier to play so I could see him being favored in that way. At the higher levels I don't think either one is favored, well maybe Sasha a little bit. Just because tech ups can really overshadow stats if VB is caught flat footed.
@@Go7Penguin it's true that no one is more hype in T1 than Sasha (well, maybe Sturm on some maps), but T1 is quite balanced, so I don't understand S tier - Sasha is very stally, the longer the game goes, the more her passive shines. All other COs - perfect list 👌
@@crawfy48 I don't think stalling is a great choice for Sasha. She will be making a little more money on even properties, but she'll quickly lose the ability to control powers once the armies start really building up in value. So stalling will quickly come back to haunt her when she gets hit by a super from 0 charge. Her powers won't help in retaliation. She excels in making builds that other COs can't and leveraging that to find winning engagements that keep power charges manageable enough for her to control. That means a lot of aggression and sharp play that benefits a lot from creativity, tactics, and a strong overall strategy.
That's just because you like Hawke and mass damage (very much anti-hype). Look at the Hawke mirror where it is just whoever blinks first. Look at his other matchups where he is pretty much just another mass damage CO with upside. He's no A tier. Sasha keeps his anti-hype from spreading she is the hero we need. She is S tier for saving the day!
@@Go7Penguin I would tend to agree. Global damage powers tend to be quite anti-hype, since they don't have that much strategy involved. Powers like Lash's, for example, are much more interesting, since their impact really depends on the player managing to get into a position where the power will be useful.
Lmao I just lost to a Grimm rushing my HQ, I thought I could easily wipe off his Infantry next turn, turns out I have nothing on my HQ side and he blocks with a bunch of stuff, feels bad man
x.x that happens to the best of us! I too have fallen to HQ rushes. The first time someone just body blocked me from defending my HQ was quite eye opening. It was like, oh wow there's a lot more you can do in this game than I thought
@@Go7Penguin Generally I like amassing a big little army early game from a single base and going all in, or almost all in. When I play ProToss, I go for a Warp Gate rush and proxy a Gate near my opponent, if it's a Terran (and even Toss sometimes), I proxy a StarGate as well. Against Zerg is near impossible getting a Gate near enough without them noticing, Overlords and Lings are too good as scouting tools, so I generally Cannon Rush, or I pretend to expand and do a big push similar to the one with the proxy gate, but with Archons and a Warp Prism. Do you play StarCraft btw? hehe
@@raven-a Canno rushes are the worst to deal with XD I played back in the day, talking wings of liberty. I got to Master league as Zerg. I really liked accelerated tech ups and winning ZvZ with high armor ultras walking right past the clouds of mutas. Very funny to watch 20 or 30 mutas fail to kill even one ultra as they destroy bases.
I think it is an important distinction to make and from my time playing with the Luck COs it is definitely true. I have a no Mangs policy, so I won't be participating in his tournament. But, I hope people have some fun in it. I've heard there are some wacky rulesets

XD that just means you want to win! I too pick many of them. The hype COs are often much more difficult to pilot which means more opportunities for mistakes x.x
@@Go7Penguin True, and there are some exceptions, like in huge T2 maps I would take Hawke over Sturm sometimes, and same thing with Drake over Kindle in the maps with a lot of space, and Eagle over Olaf in the rare double airport maps. I also pick Sami in The spiral map because I think its a fun time to grab both comms right away and give my opponent a hard time with getting them back. but yeah, in most situations, those 4 are the easiest to win with.

@@LopsidedMoz It is really strong. It is just also really easy to get bullied by the passives of other T1s if you're not leveraging her extra income well enough. If the game stalls into the late game then she can't suppress the powers anymore and her own don't help her come back from a losing position.

I'm in the 900s and on medium to larger maps, most people around that ranking seem to pick her. Out of the last T1 matches I've had in the last month or so, 80% of them were against Sasha.

@@Go7Penguin counterpoint - pulling it off requires a meticulous understanding of opening patterns and your opponents tendencies. Its also a hard punish to tank first, tank forever playstyle (very not hype) while itself gets punished by fast recons (a little more hype).
I'm not talking about hq cheeses where you just build an ApC day 2 and rush it in ans hope it works - I'm talking about an hq cheese that doesn't hit at the fastest timing but when it does arrive you have 3 inf and an ApC (and if you're sturm, a hype co, two recons even) to create a full wall. That just barely holds the thin red like against a swarm of inf (and one not hype tank) for a join cap
You also only get one chance at it vs someone (and a very limited chance against everyone else since word spreads fast) and then it's forever countered on a map. So it's max risk max reward, cannot be spammed, happens really fast, but has a niche viability.
Its the piperunner of openings.
@@Kantbei It can be really flashy, but hype should be good for everyone involved. 7 day games are not hype and can leave one player devastated. Similarly optimization of openings and strategy is not hype, neither are walls. It is a real tough sell

I'm 100% with you on Sonja.
When she's in her element (fog of war). With good planning on your end and a few blunders by your opponent, she can really start to punch above her weight class. And I think she's even a soft counter to Sensei. (I've actually beat a sensei player as sonja lol)

@@Go7Penguin it took alot of luck on my end to be fair.
But, in FoW, your average sensei player is going to rush out their three units, Infintry, Mechs and B-copters. Planning ahead and producing anti airs, and artillery basically wins you the early game. And if your sensei player panics and pops their little power, it stalls his super which is good.
And when he does get his super. You should have med tanks and neo tanks, (maybe a too fighter in case he builds a bomber or more copters) which mechs struggle against and sensei really can't keep up with. On top of which, Sonja's counter break basically gives you a turn to breathe which helps tremendously in that sensei cant zerg rush you for a turn

It was a long as hell fight. By the end, I had destroyed over 100 infintry and mech units.
And when you fight sensei. Always put something on top of his cities. It makes him far less effective.
Very good list, although I think a couple COs lost context with their tier. Colin in T1 is extremely hype imo because he feels weak in it. I'd say the same for Nell too, who to me still feels like she's finding her place in T1/T2.
Also exquisite taste putting Sasha in S tier lol, I'm sure that will turn some heads. And one last thing, Jess used to be one of the hypest picks in T4 until last year when everyone started figuring out how strong she was in fog. On standard maps I think it's very challenging to find maps where she excels, so I'd personally put her up a tier.
I think hype on Colin is a hard sell. But I could be too focused on team games. The Nell hype is an illusion! It will crack the moment she lets you down and leaves your plans in shambles x.x All she promises is falsehoods! The False Prophet of Luck!
No one is more hype in tier 1 than Sasha. I shall die on this hill. People don't like her because she disrupts powers, but that is good! She mixes up the game and punishes people playing the same old same old. She's also got a great matchup against Von Bolt, in my opinion.
I would not be against someone putting Jess in C tier. It is kind of why I put her at the top of D tier. But, she really feeds into that tank meta heavily and feels like a discount Max so I'm fine with keeping her in the same tier as him.
@@Go7Penguin Well yeah, Nell has to let you down sometimes or else it wouldn't be luck ;). I'd personally be down to see a mode where you always roll a 50%, I think she'd be even stronger there.
Interesting you say that about Sasha, I'm also a believer, since historically Sasha vs VB has been a classic matchup that can go either way. Lots of people seem to think it's VB favored.
@@dpsiduck7832 It is just that she shows all positive, so she gets your hopes up x.x you expect to crash and burn with Flak, Juygger, and Sonja, but not Nell. Not 100% luck damage Nell. She would be pretty ridiculous with auto-mid rolls. Her infantry would do 10% to megatanks on road XD What a way to lose a megatank. Her recons would be chasing down all those poor battlecopters. I think the auto-luck roll would be bad for the game, but I could be wrong and a little mode to test it out would be great for like April Fools or something.
Glad we are on the same page with Sasha :D VB is a lot easier to play so I could see him being favored in that way. At the higher levels I don't think either one is favored, well maybe Sasha a little bit. Just because tech ups can really overshadow stats if VB is caught flat footed.
@@Go7Penguin it's true that no one is more hype in T1 than Sasha (well, maybe Sturm on some maps), but T1 is quite balanced, so I don't understand S tier - Sasha is very stally, the longer the game goes, the more her passive shines. All other COs - perfect list 👌
@@crawfy48 I don't think stalling is a great choice for Sasha. She will be making a little more money on even properties, but she'll quickly lose the ability to control powers once the armies start really building up in value. So stalling will quickly come back to haunt her when she gets hit by a super from 0 charge. Her powers won't help in retaliation. She excels in making builds that other COs can't and leveraging that to find winning engagements that keep power charges manageable enough for her to control. That means a lot of aggression and sharp play that benefits a lot from creativity, tactics, and a strong overall strategy.

That's just because you like Hawke and mass damage (very much anti-hype). Look at the Hawke mirror where it is just whoever blinks first. Look at his other matchups where he is pretty much just another mass damage CO with upside. He's no A tier. Sasha keeps his anti-hype from spreading she is the hero we need. She is S tier for saving the day!

@@Go7Penguin I would tend to agree. Global damage powers tend to be quite anti-hype, since they don't have that much strategy involved. Powers like Lash's, for example, are much more interesting, since their impact really depends on the player managing to get into a position where the power will be useful.

x.x that happens to the best of us! I too have fallen to HQ rushes. The first time someone just body blocked me from defending my HQ was quite eye opening. It was like, oh wow there's a lot more you can do in this game than I thought

@@Go7Penguin Generally I like amassing a big little army early game from a single base and going all in, or almost all in. When I play ProToss, I go for a Warp Gate rush and proxy a Gate near my opponent, if it's a Terran (and even Toss sometimes), I proxy a StarGate as well. Against Zerg is near impossible getting a Gate near enough without them noticing, Overlords and Lings are too good as scouting tools, so I generally Cannon Rush, or I pretend to expand and do a big push similar to the one with the proxy gate, but with Archons and a Warp Prism. Do you play StarCraft btw? hehe
@@raven-a Canno rushes are the worst to deal with XD I played back in the day, talking wings of liberty. I got to Master league as Zerg. I really liked accelerated tech ups and winning ZvZ with high armor ultras walking right past the clouds of mutas. Very funny to watch 20 or 30 mutas fail to kill even one ultra as they destroy bases.

I think it is an important distinction to make and from my time playing with the Luck COs it is definitely true. I have a no Mangs policy, so I won't be participating in his tournament. But, I hope people have some fun in it. I've heard there are some wacky rulesets

XD that just means you want to win! I too pick many of them. The hype COs are often much more difficult to pilot which means more opportunities for mistakes x.x
@@Go7Penguin True, and there are some exceptions, like in huge T2 maps I would take Hawke over Sturm sometimes, and same thing with Drake over Kindle in the maps with a lot of space, and Eagle over Olaf in the rare double airport maps. I also pick Sami in The spiral map because I think its a fun time to grab both comms right away and give my opponent a hard time with getting them back. but yeah, in most situations, those 4 are the easiest to win with.

@@Go7Penguin 1000 rating, I find the extra income and power denial is really strong, especially since a lot of the T1 COs have slow charging powers
@@LopsidedMoz It is really strong. It is just also really easy to get bullied by the passives of other T1s if you're not leveraging her extra income well enough. If the game stalls into the late game then she can't suppress the powers anymore and her own don't help her come back from a losing position.

It is more just in general. It would change if it was mode specific. Lash is much more hype in fog than for standard for instance.

I'm in the 900s and on medium to larger maps, most people around that ranking seem to pick her. Out of the last T1 matches I've had in the last month or so, 80% of them were against Sasha.
