You've been given some really good advice in the comments under your previous videos. 6 meter logs are going to be your best price regardless of tree type. Wood chips will nearly always outpace logging as far as profit for several reasons. Log prices are pretty low, chips prices do fluctuate but are nearly always higher than log prices. If you had a production (sawmill making beams, furniture manufacturer fed with raw logs, etc.) then log length wouldn't matter one bit. Only the volume matters in an >owned< production. Supplement your income with passives, such as solar or wind, put them in an out of the way spot and let them pay the bills in the leaner times. Wood chips are superior in several ways. Decent pricing for much of the year, a lot less machinery is necessary to be efficient, storage could be an issue if you didn't have an infinite storage in the chipper itself so it's not an issue there. In my opinion, take it as you will, then only large machinery you might need would be the chipper truck at 600k, but even that is an unnecessary expense since you don't have trees to process that need that kind of machinery. You had everything you needed 3 episodes ago although it would get a bit boring fast. Most of your million is a big red logger that is costing you more in selling raw logs as opposed to a tried and true method. Chipping got you everything you have right now. If you turn your back on that then you'll only be hurting yourself. Raw logs are effectively a loss compared to pretty much everything you could do with those logs.
If you are just harvesting, logs from the lodgepoles, and set the rest aside for chipping during the high price times for chips. Also, running the second trailer alone is costing you potential profit, because the truck is just there, you could have just gotten a tractor that costs less than the truck to do that. Like any conservation based logging these days, though, you really should look into planting replacement trees.
Loving this series. Well done you. One thought: just because you bought the longer trailer don't leave the front empty. You can fill it with logs for a reason. Remember those first runs you made hmm? :)
wood for sale is best sold 6 meters. For now, it was like that in previous farming . Otherwise, you can also put 6m logs on the transport of a Volvo truck
In my experience I wouldn’t put anything longer than 5m on the bed of Volvo. Otherwise, you have logs get stuck on the crane or stick to the crane grapple when it’s in folded position
Definitely 6 meter cuts best price at that size. Tree planting take 3 years if you go that route have multiple fields almost like crops rotation. Cut ,plant, harvest

Planting trees is actually the way to go. Elm and Oak produce a lot more volume for chipping vs Lodgepole. Oak fully grown in about 2 years. Lodgepole takes about 3 years. You can cut Oak after about one year worth of growth and it would still yield more volume than Lodgepole. Plus not fully grown oak is easier to deal with. Same with Elm, after 1.5 years it’s big enough to be worth cutting
Love the series, so much that I started my own forester's economy playthrough myself. Also, the Komatsu is the best piece of equipment in terms of forestry. PS: I'm early on in the playthrough, year 1. I've been chipping deadwood contracts after selling enough logs to get the chipper. Saving em up for January.
Great saga! You have a new subscriber! For the next saga, I'd suggest less harsh rules, as it's becoming frustrating to watch and maybe also to play. I'd propose starting from scratch (no land or vehicles), same map, and you can do jobs (though the map's jobs are still quite limited). You can teleport around the map as the game allows, go negative with finances, but you still can't ask for a loan, and you can build everything. I think this approach opens up many strategic and interesting choices. The end goal should involve doing a variety of tasks, like "make 100,000 liters of cake" or "build 100 houses" or another large-scale end game production. As for mods, I think you're already making great choices. Keep it up!
Just sell the Kubota and buy the New Holland again since you don't need it for loading logs. You'll get money back and it'll get you closer to getting the new logging trailer for $68k
5 and 6 meter lengths bring best price. Lodge pole log spruce chip that's how you will maximize profits just don't bring chips till prices go up in winter.
I’m thinking stockpile. You get a nice huge pile, chip them. You’ve eliminated one step of cutting and sorting to the point where you can sit there and chip a crap ton and make bank. 🤷🏻♂️
Man if I was you I wood start planting trees behind you so they start to grow. Because I think lodge poles take like 2.5 years to grow and Oaks take forever to grow.
P.s You could also save the tips of the trees, use them for Wood Chips all year round and save them up till January. So sell all your 6m logs and turn the tree tips into Wood Chips all year round, you will make a nice payday just off tree tips come January, and make the max you can make selling them at 6m :)
Tip:Make a sawmill hugs because it make u more money and make furture and sell the furture make u lot of money Edit: i subscribed to ur videos we love ❤❤ u
Next time pull through at an angle from the corner of the building towards the person that is standing at the Mill. Also you math doesn't work in fs. 6m is the best size in fs no matter what. Sorry to say
I would say test different lengths from 6 - 8m long as I found 6m lodgepoles make way more so maybe 12m was too long? Just test and measure and I believe the large sawmill has an outside sell zone so no need to back up? Farmer Cop just dropped some videos on different tree growth times…
Thanks for the tip! I would definitely do that but at the start of the challenge I limited myself to no productions and to switch it at this point I feel would kind of betray the spirit of the whole thing. I may unlock basic forestry production for season 2 though to change things up!
@@hugz6559I would create lumber yard, store the good logs for selling at best price. Chip the other trees and sell wood chips at best price too. Unless you do productions woodchips make more money per tree
@hugz6559 i think continue what you are doing but you need to start setting up for the next phase and that would be getting rid of all those stumps and making the field (most likely 90% of the land. And plant half lodge poles (for production) and Oaks (for chipping). Buy the land next door and while those are growing work over there. Once that land is clear you have your land for you productions (large productions, stay way from the small ones such a waste of money when the large ones can do 10 times the production). Just my suggestion.
@hugz6559 Aha, fair enough. But if you want to upgrade size on the trailer, you could do a 12m semi trailer on the back with 2 stacks on on 6m and fixed with a dolly. I do belive the crane should reach.
6 meter logs sell the best
another great episode!

Wood chips to get that saw mill brotha! That's the money maker right there!

Like others have said, keep your cuts between 6-9 meters to make the most money.
I would have bought a semi and a autoload trailer it is much easier to back into the sawmill mate!
Plus you can have way much longer trees on it!
You've gotta get to build a sawmill (the big closed one). Will bring way more profit
Your right
Yeah with the number of trees he cut today he coulda kept that thing stocked for months
Just sell the Kubota and buy the New Holland again since you don't need it for loading logs. You'll get money back and it'll get you closer to getting the new logging trailer for $68k
Also, there's a mod that allows you to lock the trailer front axle for tight reversing etc.

6m Logs sell the best, anything less or anything more and the price drops. I would prioritise 6m though as your loosing allot of money 😂❤️

utilize every inch of your vehicle for load.
You need to buy more land. Otherwise, you'll run out of trees. You also need to get a tree planter.
Wood chips are still worth more than all of this headache. Whole timber is only worth it if you were going to do productions with it.
I 100% agree. Even at the lowest sell point I have now found that woodchips are still far more profitable.
@hugz6559 I'm really enjoying the series, man! Keep up the work!
Should do productions
No productions allowed for this challenge, but I may change that up for the next one!

Move towards the concept of value addition, instead of selling wood, sell finished products

@@timothysmith1951 Exactly, this is the way to go. Else, it's gonna stay a grind.
Can't you increase the length of the truck too so you dont have to go for 2 sizes? And deffo do 6m, no more.
Unfortunately I don't think the truck gets bigger. The different configurations just move around the supports on the side.
