Dafne Keen deserved an Oscar for her performance. She spends 2/3 of the film communicating through grunts, growls, and facial expressions. Yet we understand her perfectly. When she finally does say anything it carries tremendous weight. And she was only 12.
One of the best casting choices ever. If she doesn't do something award-worthy in the future, I would be very surprised.
She is amazing
And when she finally talks, a majority of us have no idea what she actually says.

the lines in this scene were her audition lines with Jackman. The spanish was actually ad-libbed during the audition as was hitting Jackman. Jackman told the producers he would not do the movie without her as X-23, changes were made to the script to include the ad-libbed lines and acting. I really hope a legacy of the wolverine movie can be made with her as an older X-23.
My favorite story of her ad lib, Jackman apologized to her mother for having to swear at a little girl, her mother said “that’s fine, she just called you a cunt in Spanish”

Whats amazing is that Dafne Keen during the audition asked to improvise a scene. So she sat down with Hugh Jackman and this was the exact scene they came up with together. So the fact it made it into the movie is amazing.

Like writing out the marijuana fuelled sex scene between Ellie and Dina so they and Jesse would've arrived to save Joel from Abby in time, but for instance Abby killing Jesse in the fight before escaping, prompting Ellie and Dina to go after her with Joel and Tommy having gone beforehand, not doing a #MeToo and killing off Joel like John Connor.
I think it should've been Joel, Tommy, Ellie and Dina pursuing Abby. Joel was far more integral to the Last of Us universe than Jesse was. Jesse's role in the story was basically a sperm donor.

So from what i saw in the interviews, doing the scene like this was the child's idea. She asked if she could improv the scene and they liked it so much they kept it in the movie. I will say, I think she's the ONLY one who could punch Wolverine in the face and live to tell the tale. The chemistry between her and Hugh Jackman (and Patrick Stewart) was amazing.
Apparently after the scene Hugh Jackman apologised for swearing at her to her mother, who replied something along the lines of "That's ok, she just called you a cunt in Spanish"

I accidentally watched Dafne Keen's audition video for this movie. It was actually for this scene. Her and Hugh were performing this scene in a room. She asked the people in charge if she could improvise. They gave her permission to. That gave us this. She even hit Hugh and grabbed the comic and map from his hands like here. I'm not sure but I have a gut feeling that she's the reason she speaks Spanish in the movie. Everyone, especially Hugh, were extremely impressed by her performance. I really like how she was absolutely unfazed by Hugh's yelling and cursing.

Seeing wolverine broken, exhausted and just done with life is really heartbreaking. Same thing with prof X, both are passed their glorious days and struggling just to get through a normal day is really sad.
I hate it when they create storylines like this. It’s from riches to rags type of story but instead of money it’s position in life such as a superhero turning into a bum etc. I can’t stand that premise even though this movie was well-made.

@@yoyoyo8011 Blame Mark Millar. Even HE felt he went too far with these dark stories. I think he was exploring a part of humanity that we don't really like watching but we have trouble looking away, like a car accident on the news. I also think he realizes how much of a colossal negative impact these stories had on fans and the world in general. I hope that in the future we move away from these negative stories and move back towards positivity in entertainment. The world is cruel enough, why must our escapist fantasy be even more cruel?
Although I agree with most things here, I disagree about hating it or wanting the course of art to change.
Logan delievered, in a long time of superhero movies, a true conflict that's deeper than beating up the bad guys.
Although the beginning is *really* harsh, Logan and Xavier did find a purpose, that was to protect the new generation of mutants they thought were becoming extinct. And they did it. From the rock bottom, death and despair, right up to the sky, life and hope. Even the colors seems to be brighter by the end of the movie.
This movie made me feel really sad for them. But, once you see that they completely overcame all those bad things, it lights an unique feeling of hope
@@catogordo8340 Right...that's called "liking it". The fact is that Millar started a trend in comic books that even HE thought went too far. Hell, Logan actually avoided a lot of the fucked up parts of Old Man Logan.
Dafne Keen has such a good career ahead of her. Seeing her in Logan and His Dark Materials portraying two very different characters (while speaking two different languages at that) at such a young age is impressive.
