Funny story. I had a death in my family that impacted my kids, and I in a huge way. I had spent well over $3,000 since October 2023. I made it into the rewards loyalty program where I was getting a decent discount. I had to cancel an MTO and he told me he believed I was lying about this terrible death. Then he black listed me. I've read around and spoke to other buyers, and after reaching a certain tier and upsetting the owner in one way or another, he's black listed them as well. I offered to send the prick a pic of my children standing next to their mother's grave, but he declined. I'll never give that company another penny of my money.
They probably are going to launch a workbook line, in some standard less unique leathers. Something they can mass produce and have regularly stocked. Their owner has said some wild things in the past.
Great boot! I just received the same boot, which I got because of the unstructured toe and the Eugene sole, but was blown away by the hardiness of the leather when they arrived. I did get my normal Truman size, but these are the most snug-fitting of my 6 pairs. I’m not sure if that is due to the unstructured toe. I’m hoping Truman is expanding their lineup back in to shoes with their shift. I did pick up a pair of their shoes 2 years ago, and they are every bit as well built as their boots. It would be nice to have more options for wear in the warmer months.
Truman pissed me off after buying 7 pairs of boots. Waited for 8 weeks for a pair of boots to be made and it looks like the warehouse grabbed the leftover leather from the dumpster to make my boots. They ended up refunding my money which is fine but they stopped answering my emails for a replacement. I went with Parkhurst and Iˋm very happy with my choice.
@@MetalBootGuy Horrible leather quality and they knew it. I shared pics with a few cobblers I network with and they were surprised Truman chose that poor leather quality to make those boots. All my other boots are perfect what really pissed me off is how they dismissed me after all the business I’ve done with them. It is what it is….
I hope Truman gets their act together. And makes efforts to expand. I have no idea why nobody has approached Allen Edmonds to do a pure heritage boot at 5k pairs for their volume. Or done this in Spain or Portugal with a vast amount of widths and sizing. There is a huge missed opportunity and someone has to do it.
Just found your channel a few days ago and I’m obsessed haha. If you ever want to sell any of your hand me down boots - I’m your guy! I’m a 12 wide or 12.5 so I bet a lot of yours would fit me. Just bought my first pair of boots ever after watching a ton of channels like you do for years and have finally caved in haha. Got the DB Hunter Natural Oiled Veg Tan by Unmarked on a 40% off seconds sale because of a super small stain. Such a steal!
Will be very interesting indeed what Truman does, but I believe you are right......they are moving more towards mass production. It would be unfortunate if their current business model goes away......but as I always say, every bad situation has a silver lining. In this case, if every heritage boot manufacturer closed up shop.......I would be saving a ton of money. 😂😂😂
It would be a real shame if they shut down or sold out. Hoping Vince is just having some fun to sell boots. I’m really loving my 20 Last boots and want to try the 56. The 79 Last doesn’t work for me.
Bro Truman’s QC is so good. I just got a pair from Seconds and the issue is so incredibly minor. A Truman Factory Seconds boot would be a Whites Factory First. Whites QC is a disaster in every boot I’ve bought from them.
Not to take away from the content of this video but some of these claims about Truman customer service are quite shocking. I don’t think I can give a company my business if they’re true. I know there’s two sides to every story but jeez, blacklisting someone over a funeral? Thats despicable.
Inconsistent quality control as well. They are gorgeous boots, but in some cases, two pairs of boots in the same size, same last will in reality be two different sizes. Yes, I have a $400 pair of boots sitting in my closet that I cannot wear because they were mislabeled at the factory. I’ve lost so much money on ill fitting mail order boots in the past two years that I just refuse to take on this kind of risk when patronizing a company.
Winter or cold environments leather boots is where the industry is lacking. Viberg does some hiking boots with inside lining for cold but they are ugly and expensive.
I already gave up on Truman because the 55 Last fit better and found enough Grant Stone for less $. I have the same problem with the less expensive boot priority keeping me from wearing some of the nicer boots, but then, most of them won't last as long, anyway, right?
Neigh as crazy about this outsole, either. I know it's based on US Army 1942 or whate'er, but I usually want the lugs for a boot I might take hiking instead of just strolling around town. This sole I would use in warehouse maybe and neigh much more.
😂 heritage puma. Great yt channel. You got a great way of describing boots. Surprised they are changing their business. I never like their cap toes. They look to stumpy compared to other brands.
Ridiculous price in England, same or more expensive than Crockett and Jones and Trickers, who are very well established and make the best boots a man can get in this price range
Hmm, I really like that cypress but my brown double shots in 11D are a bit snug...after reading comments here about how much of a d!ck the owner treats customers I'm really wanting another pair but not sure sizing up to their wide width. If their closing rumors are true, looks like I might have to transition to the White's MP (for more casual) or Grant Stone (for more dressy).
I'll throw my conspiracy theory in the ring. 8 weeks ago. Vince, the owner, was boosting the company had already exceeded total sales from last year. This despite the fact the factory was closed for several months of the year, and had essentially no product to sell. Vince runs very hot and cold emotionally, and seems almost bipolar at times. He posted to X alluding to a fallout with his CF Stead distributor. For Truman that is a really big deal, since they make the leather for two of their three top selling models. It almost seems like that triggered all of this talk about frustration, boot side hustles, sales not where he wants, and so forth. Bottom line is he's moved three times, established three factories from the ground up, and just shut down the Spokane factory for 3 months last year to add equipment, stock materials, and transfer away from a MTO model to having stock ready to sell. He's got plenty of money, and unless somebody throws a bunch at him, the company isn't getting sold. The side hustle comment is kind of entertaining, since in his interviews he makes the company out as his own side hustle, talking about how he spends many days on his ranch outside of the city limits farming, milking cows, and enjoying the wilderness. He makes the decisions, but now that he's in the PNW, he has access to skilled and semi-skilled workers who can take care of the day-to-day at the factory, whether he's there or not. Truman makes a good boot, but admittedly being GYW their boots are not especially time or labor intensive to produce. Yes, you need humans to guide the machines, but it's nothing like what it takes to make a hand lasted boot from Nick's for example. I see no room for them to move up market. Which leaves going down market if they want to expand. Which puts them head-to-head with Red Wing Heritage and other brands that occupy that space. Or for work boots, Red Wing, Wolverine, Thorogood, and many others that have a cost advantage and long-established names and legacies. The likeliest outcome is Truman continues largely as they are, making money, enjoying good profit margins, and perhaps backtracking on their stance of relying on current customers and treating new ones like crap. Their customer service leaves much to be desired, being largely a reflection of the company's profanity spewing owner. Stuff like failing to offer size exchanges, instead forcing refunds that require the customer to wait 20 days or so while their money is held, opportunityistically sticking new customers with restocking fees, and so forth. After being hamstrung by the 79 last, which for many is a nightmare to fit properly if at all with a wide heel and narrow waist and toe box, they now have two modern lasts to go along with it. Developing a set of lasts, even with no width options, is NOT cheap. They are invested and locked in, and I'd have to know more about their numbers and margins to know if there is a better opportunity. 10 bucks says 6 months from now. The company will be operating much the same way it is now, once the outbursts blow over. In the meantime, they had a bunch of inventory that they are blowing through, and are going to have a great holiday season. Even selling boots at a discount. As said, they have plenty of margin to make plenty of money even at 20% off. Their basic boot is $400, then they surcharge $80 for waxed flesh or Rambler, neither of which is a particularly expensive leather at wholesale. Vince knows what he's doing, and they are the type of company that will take short-term gain over long-term goodwill and success. Time will tell.
Wow, thanks for the detailed analysis! It's fascinating to see how you've pieced together all the different pieces of information to form your conclusions. I agree that time will tell what the future holds.
I think I'm with you. His odd social media post(s) sure generated a ton of excitement just days before they sold out their entire stock during the Black Friday event.
@@trapperjohn8508 Yeah, looks like there's a chance I may be on the money with this one. Admittedly I'm not privy to any kind of inside info, everything I wrote is just based on what many of us have read, and what I know about the company from what was a far from ideal first nice boot buying experience with them. It appears they absolutely cleaned house with their stock. The only problem with stirring the rumor pot like this is the possibility of a reputational hit, and of course the fact that you can only do it once. Thing is, I don't think reputation is even a concern, the following for this brand seems to be absolutely rabid, and ready to defend the owner and the company through just about anything. Anyone who posts a complaint on their subreddit basically gets swarmed by members calling them unrealistic, spoiled, and completely dismissive of any questioning of the boots quality. Standard stuff, happy people don't post, only people with a problem would dare post, and they are whiners and such. The Truman following is literally like a clique, and they are happy to have five new pairs of boots that they got with a big discount during the sale. At least there's no more temptation for me, seems they have quit making sizes above 12 anyway, and I wear a 13.5 EE in the 79 last. Which is of course, part of the reason I started with Truman, there simply aren't a lot of options in that price bracket when you have boat feet lol. We will see what changes, but I'm feeling good about the "Not much" bet that I put in...
