Take half the pallets out so you can pull the scale up and lay it down on top of them. Then stand it up and lay it over the edge of the dumpster. You have to get half of the pallets out of the way. Or just go back the next day and ask if you can have it and help you pull it
Hi Mike, I have an ex forestry commission pickup and they come with a small winch on the reinforced headboard, I find it really useful when scavenging heavy stuff, saves your back, just an idea as we all getting older haha, from a UK scavenger
Edwards - they make vacuum pumps, we had 3 at my work, ours were on wheels but you'd never lift it without a gantry or forklift. A LOT of metal in them. Awesome, thinking outside the box, well done.
I would have emptied the other side of the dumpster to half, slid it on to the pallets in the dumpster then attempted to flip it up and out. Not going to strut around like a jerk saying it would have worked but hey there's always the old college try Mike! haha
I feel you , and the King , are true scraper's , no scrap left behind . Now when it is in a rollback , like them large coolers . I under stand . You go man !!!
This is exactly what I was thinking. Or use the axe on a pallet to make wood blocks to jack it up., tip it over onto the pallets he was standing on, and then back Dottie up and slide her in. I was yelling at my computer screen. No scrap left behind. LOL
He has actually done one. If you haven't seen it check in his video list on his page. He sits in the back yard and answered questions. He also opened up his you tube plaque for his first 100k subscribers.
@@RavenCajun That was a long time ago. I’ve seen that. I’m referring to doing a recent up to date question and answer live. He doesn’t have a P.O. Box anymore so questions can’t be sent in the mail. Friday’s used to be mail day.
I was hollering use the ramp. There seems to be ramps where you scrap at. I’m glad you were able to get the monster without hurting yourself. It also is never a bad thing to know your limits. That scale platform was just too much. It was a back injury for sure. I’m glad you left it. But can you imagine what that’s going to be like when it hits the inside of the trash truck. Geez. Stay safe and God Bless
Hey Mike carry two 2x4s or 2x3s in your truck scrapping ,my wife and I always carry them. We put the boards on a slant then slide the thing up the boards
i'm proud of ya son! you didn't give up just 'cause it was hard. where there's a will, there's a way, don'cha know. if you still have the beams from that pallet racking, and a welder, you can make a truck bed lift boom pretty cheaply. i made one years ago for my junk truck to lift engines and other heavy stuff. i'm sure you can find a vid here on the youtube to give you design ideas.
A strap, an eye loop you can slide in and out of the drop points in the side of your bed. A small ramp you can attach on Dottie, like your poking stick. Wrap the strap around your rear wheel. Slowly driving forward, watch that strap pull the load into your bed. If anyone can do it you can brother! Stay savage! Love from the north east. And remember the cutout of the bull dog on your truck a while ago? He was my chefs dog! His name was Griffin, and he was paralyzed with no use of his legs. I doubt anyone in here has heard of him. But I know you have because that cutout has been migrating around the states from one bully lover to another. Thanks again Mike
Leverage is your friend! Speaking as a scrapper and fellow dumpster diver, I'm concerned for your back and knees. I have an old dog ramp that I use for ultra heavy items. Also, taking the time to pull up close enough to access the dumpster while your in it is going to maximize your lifespan my friend. I know people bug you about it all the time in the comments as I am choosing to do now but that's only because we like you Mike:)-
I was sitting on the edge of my seat when you tryed to the nuclear power scrap but that huge steel thing was so hard you are fit Mike nicely done xx uk fan
I once did a job on the cheap to add some lights with ballasts like the ones in this video. Found 8 on Craigslist for $100. So may be better to sell than to scrap.
Mike maybe try throwing a few more of those pallets out so you can get that scale on top of them in the bin then flop it out the bin into the back of your tuck!
26:03 That's a dry pump, Mike. Spaceship stuff. As for that scale, get a hook tied to some rope, let Dottie pull it atop those pallets, then push it onto the truck's bed.
You would need rope or rachet straps, tilt it put strap under each corner - tie them together at the top then pull it out with the truck? but pull it towards the opposite end from where it was? empty out some of the pallets and it could have slid out like a giant tile really...maybe :D
Catching up on some of your vids. Maybe there was a loading dock nearby you could push that beast onto, then back your truck up to the dock. Though I'm sure you know most about the resources you had available. OMG, then I watched more. Lol
As much pipe and Chanel you come across, set some aside and fabricate a small swing boom inside the back of your truck. I've even seen them made to slide into the receiver of a trailer hitch, which can make it portable. Was so hoping you could get that plate steel
Mike you should take the pallets out then it would lay down then tip it up on it,s side and put a pallet back and then drop it down and keep doing that until you can lift it on to the bin rim and then slide it in the truck. good luck
That rubber mat works great inside tool boxes. Makes the quieter and tools don’t slide around. I usually put something like that in truck box tool boxes. Also, just like everyone’s saying, harbor freight has truck box booms.
If you moved some of the the pallets to lower the height you're dragging/lifting it to, it would help a lot for lifting that industrial scale platform out. Probably would also be an idea to carry some sort of come along in your truck, that you always mention but never get.
19:18 You could in theory have tilted the flat weight from side to side while putting trash under it on each corner and then raised it and got it up slowly. And then backed your truck and put it in the truck bed. Probably a hard job doing it alone, but you could in theory have done it if you had enough trash to put underneat it. I saw you was able to lift it up on one side at a time that way. Problem is likely to hold it there and put trash under it at the same time perhaps.. and probably a heavy load on your back to do that too.
Glad you didn't leave that Edwards unit (check out the parts $$$ on eBay!) In dumpster diving, where there is a will there is a way! Too bad about the scale base, better start eating buckets of Wheaties! A swinging hydraulic lift arm would have been handy there.
Ok, make a dang truck crane! You find enough scaffolding rails to do it. Then hook up either a 12volt winch, or a come along if your too cheap. Dang it Mike you need one....
Break up a pallet, rock the scale from opposite ends, place boards under the opposing ends raising the scale upwards. When high enough flip onto it’s side on top of other stuff in the dumpster. Now it is at a level that can be slid into the back of Dottie.
And the rubber matting...works awesome in the garage or cut to shape in the floor boards of a vehicle...water proofs it..,could use it for a ton of different things...I have one in my driveway so it’s not muddy...it does get slippery when it snows or rains ...grab that stuff...u could even line the bed of ur truck for an extra liner and sound proofing..
Hey Mike, I'm in my mid 60,s and I scrap. I don't have the strength I use to. So I made a what they call around here as a Raboo special. Reciever hitch mounted crane, pretty easy to make if you have a welder that is. Even a boat winch can lift quite a bit or a small cable hoist, ive seen both hitch mount and corner of box mount which is out of the way.
Mike just a suggestion on removing that heavy plate from dumpster push plate against Wall then slid a pallet down then side plate up one board at a time until high enough to pull it out.
For the scale... Take out half of those pallets... Tip it onto the remaining pallets...then tip it onto the edge of the dumpster... Then directly into the back of your truck!
Mike it was only pallets in there you could have threw the palace out spun the scale around to the front of the dumpster and then lift from the bottom up into the back of the truck
@@brandonskidmore5019 I was also thinking 'leverage from the bottom'. He also could have pulled up-and-back, dragging the scale on top of the pallets, but that's a real hard lift.
I would move the pallets that your standing on and get it down to about a foot (which is how high you lifted) and then lift it up onto the at height and get behind it and tilt it over the top into your truck.
big metal scale take out lot more of the pallets and tip it on its side and then up and over
Exactly what I was thinking, just flip it onto the pallets once you lower the stack then one more flip out of the dumpster and into the waiting truck.
Yep that's what I was thinking too, like 2 or 3 of those pallets out the way an boom you got it
@@chuckhepler1059 And then Mike had backed up with Dolly and then slid over to the bed with the scales, so Mike had not had to lift again.
That was my Idea to to takeoff the small pallet that was on top and laid pull in and laid it down you would’ve gotten it out
yep lower the pallets flip onto pallets and hook comalong to lowest corner and the upper hook on the top of bin up and out easy peasy
