Why should that be dog abuse?? Dogs NEED to be combed, and some of them actually really like it! And the woman in the Video just makes good use of the fur that others just throw in the bin. Why the Heck should that be cruel?? Some people just need to be against anything!!!

It’s just the idea that comes with using the hair of something we are close to. Would you make a sweater out of your child’s hair, or your cat? No. It’s just negative stigma.

lol people who say it's dog abuse clearly know NOTHING about certain dog breeds. Some with incredibly long hair like a samoyed literally shed enough fur per day to make a hat. They need to have their hair maintained.

I don't understand why people are so disgusted by this. People wear cow skins, pig skins and all the above but when you put dog hair on its nasty? Logic please. Just think about the products we use everyday for beauty and whats in that. Think about the processed gunk in food.People use hair extensions, don't you find that disgusting? Putting others people dead skin cells on your head. They're much worst things like, Ears for a necklace. No pun intended.

Because dogs have been companions of humans since the beginning of the modern human. We have a special relationship with them, almost to the point of a sibling or child. Same with the cat. While cows, pigs, or chickens etc, have always been food or livestock to us. We don’t kill animals/being that we feel close to because of human nature.

I started in this 20 years ago by spinning sheep wool to pass time at dog shows between rings. Breeders started giving me their 'pull' which is remnants from grooming extremely clean show dogs before they show. Next thing you know, breeders were sending me space bags in the mail, folks were tracing their feet on paper towels at dog shows so that I could make slippers for them! I still come home to find bags of Keeshond on my porch!

My sister has always wanted to make yarn out of one of our dogs fur. He's a husky mutt and his undercoat is very soft and fluffy. He also sheds ungodly amounts and needs brushed almost daily. This is a very creative and interesting way to use his fur (and even his brothers) to prevent the balls of hair from floating around the house. (My family has even started to call them Tribbles because of how fast they multiply.)
I do plan on getting my sister this book eventually, at the very least to give her something to read and this video helps a lot in better explaining the process of preparing the fur for spinning. Though she has no idea how to spin yarn, she hungers for knowledge.
I also wonder if it would be possible to dye fur to get more interesting colors, like red and greens for Christmas sweaters. Or blue for winter hats... Granted the color may wash out eventually... as even dyes can fade with time and washing.

It's nice to wear the dog furr but know the dog wasn't hurt, actually they enjoyed it because they got brushed.

I know that in the past people used to spin hair of many animal kinds and I heard that in cold places winter dogs with thick furcoats were used as herd dogs, hot-water bottles (they're were often kept inside the tents and huts due to radiating body warmth and people would often cuddle and even sleep with them) and their fur was made useful. wool was spinned out of their fur. this was an old practice of slavic and north asian tribes. so when I heard that I immediately googled it, I thought how could you possibly use dog fur?? Now I know how and I'm so surprised that people are still keeping this practice alive. That's so great!

My Siberian Husky blows her coat twice a year ... I saved her hair from fall and got 2 garbage bagfuls! This is not including what I got from vacuum. I don't save that as it's mixed with house dust and mites...YUCK! I've had my wheel for about 26 years and this is my first pet. She is beautiful but sheds constantly when she's not in winter time. I was pondering spinning some of her fur (after carding) into cotton or wool poonies that I bought last year. Do you think I'll get the same effect by adding some here and there into the poonies as I spin? I've spun silk threads in...but that was during carding process.

I don't think it's cruel to brush your pet and utilise their hair but I would hate for it to become a mass production industry like wool. I refuse to wear wool or leather and have no issue in wearing my lets fur- it's usually all over me anyway! I will start brushing and collecting now. Thank you for the tutorial.

Find and contact your local Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers, because yes, it probably could be spun. The final yarn produced will depend on how much coarse guard hair (top coat) is mixed in with lovely soft fluffy warm undercoat, and what mix of breeds may be in your hoover.

I can't imagine how much dog fur is on her floor

    • @kainhearth964
      @kainhearth964 8 лет назад +1

+Nora Schlegel Probably not as much as you think, considering she probably brushes her dog/s a lot to get the fur which in turn prevents it from building up on the floor. There would only be specific locations were it'd be more likely noticeable (Where she's brushing and where she's spinning) but she seems to have nice hardwood floors, just with area rugs, which makes clean up a LOT easier than all carpet.

In more rural areas of the world with long haired dogs (and other animals) this makes complete sense, it's not strange at all. I'm quite surprised we don't hear more about dog yarns, but I guess dogs do the main work of protecting the sheep or llamas XD

This series is surprisingly very interesting. Not to say I thought it would suck, but it far exceeded my expectation for the topic. I like it :)

I used to work at a dog salon, and we used to always joke about this. One day a lady really did ask to keep the hair so she could make something with it. *shudder*

You dont kill the dog, what are you talking about? Have you ever groomed a fluffy dog? You brush out a looot of super soft fur and you usually throw it out. This is pretty neat idead and no dog is harmed. They are brushed, not skinned.

Those sweaters are lovely. I have a Great Pyrenees girl and she sheds like crazy. I have started to collect her fur. Anyone interested in buying it? It’s pure white. We bathe her once a month, and her fur doesn’t smell.
