You know what? I really like this. Every one wins here: the lady gets to do her hobby, the customer gets a keepsake, and most importantly the dog is happy and healthy
Chan 160138 NOOOO!
@@sarahjenkyn-jones2439 what
Why should that be dog abuse?? Dogs NEED to be combed, and some of them actually really like it! And the woman in the Video just makes good use of the fur that others just throw in the bin. Why the Heck should that be cruel?? Some people just need to be against anything!!!
+Lars H. and it is way better to give it a use than to let it fill a landfill!
+Lars H. agree no more!
It’s just the idea that comes with using the hair of something we are close to. Would you make a sweater out of your child’s hair, or your cat? No. It’s just negative stigma.
Turokine it’s like brushing your hair but for dogs especially with dogs with a ton of hair
lol people who say it's dog abuse clearly know NOTHING about certain dog breeds. Some with incredibly long hair like a samoyed literally shed enough fur per day to make a hat. They need to have their hair maintained.
"can you show us the first step of knitting with dog hair?"
"well, the first step is getting a dog."
that made me laugh more than it should...
I don't understand why people are so disgusted by this. People wear cow skins, pig skins and all the above but when you put dog hair on its nasty? Logic please. Just think about the products we use everyday for beauty and whats in that. Think about the processed gunk in food.People use hair extensions, don't you find that disgusting? Putting others people dead skin cells on your head. They're much worst things like, Ears for a necklace. No pun intended.
kevin Trinh Thank you!
thank you my mom has a bunch of expensive coats made of idk what animal then i show my mom this and she is completely disgusted
I would like to get a blanket made by dogs fur
Totally agree
Because dogs have been companions of humans since the beginning of the modern human. We have a special relationship with them, almost to the point of a sibling or child. Same with the cat. While cows, pigs, or chickens etc, have always been food or livestock to us. We don’t kill animals/being that we feel close to because of human nature.
obviously the people that are grossed out buy dog hair have never been around sheep or alpaca. a a maintained domestic dog is 20 times cleaner then your average sheep.
And the sad thing is that no-one wants wool anymore and I have been told by a farmer in 2017 (it's 2019 writing this)that the world that is sheared is thrown away, burnt ! Is that crazy. If you think this is weird, watch how acrylic yarn is made.
i know but it's still gross
Yea I've been to farms and the sheep are often covered in their own shit.
@@taliakellegg5978
It's not gross if you treat it with chemicals.
I spun the fur from my beautiful Samoyeds and made scarves for the whole family
is dog fur soft to wear?
Omggg samoyeddd sheds like craaaazyyy
I'm jealous. I'm from India and we have nothing like this here but I would really like at least a hat or glove with my doggies fur
NOW THIS GIVES A WHOLE NEW MEANING TO THE TERM "BOXER SHORTS"!!!
Sounds itchy 😂
lmao
Who tf wears furry shorts in the winter? 😂
Who tf wears furry shorts in the winter? 😂
I started in this 20 years ago by spinning sheep wool to pass time at dog shows between rings. Breeders started giving me their 'pull' which is remnants from grooming extremely clean show dogs before they show. Next thing you know, breeders were sending me space bags in the mail, folks were tracing their feet on paper towels at dog shows so that I could make slippers for them! I still come home to find bags of Keeshond on my porch!
That's amazing! They must really love their pets!
You still spin it?
@@Thundermuffin93 still do
My sister has always wanted to make yarn out of one of our dogs fur. He's a husky mutt and his undercoat is very soft and fluffy. He also sheds ungodly amounts and needs brushed almost daily. This is a very creative and interesting way to use his fur (and even his brothers) to prevent the balls of hair from floating around the house. (My family has even started to call them Tribbles because of how fast they multiply.)
I do plan on getting my sister this book eventually, at the very least to give her something to read and this video helps a lot in better explaining the process of preparing the fur for spinning. Though she has no idea how to spin yarn, she hungers for knowledge.
I also wonder if it would be possible to dye fur to get more interesting colors, like red and greens for Christmas sweaters. Or blue for winter hats... Granted the color may wash out eventually... as even dyes can fade with time and washing.
"What's it made out of?"
"Eyelashes!"
Was that a Sponge Bob reference?
Better than actually skinning real animals alive!
True!
this isn't china we don't skin them alive
Tamahagane I've definitely seen videos of that
We don't skin dogs in America but we can import dog skin clothes. It's awful really, but yarn clothes and skin clothes are very different so unfortunately no pelt lovers will switch to yarn, because it isn't at all similar.
It's nice to wear the dog furr but know the dog wasn't hurt, actually they enjoyed it because they got brushed.
@@KhanggiTanka Is that meant to be a joke ?
nice concept. better than someone killing an animal for its fur coat
Agree
No.
How's the texture? Ruff!
It’s hilarious but bad at the same time 😂
It is just using dog's dead fur!!! Why some of people feel upset about this video?
The dog is like, "Wait, why'd you stop, keep brushing me!"
Why do people think its weird? Dont they know that wool is mad from animal hair?
you should get a husky you would get ALOT more
Karol Escobar she should get a Samoyed, after two brushings once every day there will be a mountain.
It's nonstop
It's my most daunting evemy to date
I'll clean and then 4 min later it's all over my sink again
Try a Bouvier XD
Why do I suddenly want a dog fur hoodie?
Inspirations
Wool hoodie? That's hard to make, unless you're talking about replacing the inner fleece with dog fur
I wish i knew about this back when scotty was alive 😭
😩😢
Hugs 😭💜
I know that in the past people used to spin hair of many animal kinds and I heard that in cold places winter dogs with thick furcoats were used as herd dogs, hot-water bottles (they're were often kept inside the tents and huts due to radiating body warmth and people would often cuddle and even sleep with them) and their fur was made useful. wool was spinned out of their fur. this was an old practice of slavic and north asian tribes. so when I heard that I immediately googled it, I thought how could you possibly use dog fur?? Now I know how and I'm so surprised that people are still keeping this practice alive. That's so great!
I made a 1 inch piece of yarn from my Yorkie. When I showed it to him he was very confused
I’m on the weird side of RUclips but I’m not mad about it
I love this idea and my grandmother would too.
She’s had many huge dogs with lots and tons of hair, they always get groomed and there’s nothing to feel bad about here
My Siberian Husky blows her coat twice a year ... I saved her hair from fall and got 2 garbage bagfuls! This is not including what I got from vacuum. I don't save that as it's mixed with house dust and mites...YUCK! I've had my wheel for about 26 years and this is my first pet. She is beautiful but sheds constantly when she's not in winter time. I was pondering spinning some of her fur (after carding) into cotton or wool poonies that I bought last year. Do you think I'll get the same effect by adding some here and there into the poonies as I spin? I've spun silk threads in...but that was during carding process.
Go for it! Try it and see. Punis work well for short fibres like cotton -- and dog fur. If you can make your dog fur into punis it should be a breeze to spin.
It’s common in east Europe and we’ve used dogs fur for centuries, it’s believed that socks or belts made from it can help with rheumatism and pain even with headache
I love this idea. I’ve been collecting my goldens fur for the last couple months and just ordered a carding and spinning machine. Can’t wait to make something!
How did it go?
How's the texture compared to clothes sold in malls?
Does the dog get a cut of the profits?
I'm sure my dog would love a blankie made out her fur
The dog gets a cut of the hair.
Ya more cuddles
Yes . Better food from income
He gets lots of treats and belly rubs hehehe
It would be like if my dog was giving me a hug ♥
What an incredible art.
I have a husky and they shed a lot! From the first time he blew his coat, I started to keep a box of hair. Recently I got a furminator and a rake to prepare for his springtime shed.
That is absolutely awesome, for a real dog lover like me it's stunning !
Genius. Doing this with my aussie and husky
I knit a human hair sweater for my dog
haha..:DD
I think thats possible maibe go to the local barber and get the hair there :O
Did you use curly hair? 🙃🥳
Hahaha
I wonder if thats posible XD
Is it weird the first thing I thought when I read "Dog Hair Sweaters" was, 'FINALLY!!'
Thank you for your video, very happy, lighthearted and inspiring. I have been grooming dogs for going on 7 years professionally, and always wanted to know this stuff,,too bad I got rid of the hair I had collected for the gulf oil spill,,they didnt want it after all,,but yesterday I shaved 2 very long coated Labradoodles, and though you say one should only used the undercoat, I'm gonna try the whole fleece, it is very curly/wooly...gonna go see where to buy your book right now,,thanks again!! Steffie
UPDATE! bought a spinning wheel, have made several things out of my own handmade chien wool,, dog wool is warm! lovely, fun, practical, my 3 favorite words!
Wonderful! Welcome to the friendly and fascinating world of spinners and spinning!
I think this is AWESOME! I would give anything to have a sweater from the hair of each of my beloved goldens (RIP). Do people realize that cashmere and angora come from GOATS!
Cleaning the hair - I wonder if Dawn detergent would be a better cleaner. Seems like it would be better for removing the oils.
This is the most amazing idea I've seen in a while...
its just perfect in every way u look at it. so awesome! :D
this is genius !
I like how the video has absolutely no music, it's actually kind of nice and reminiscent of old documentary videos on the VHS or something
Am I the only one thinking this woman just went crazy one day at her dog and yelled: IM NOT ONLY GOING TO LOVE YOU! IM GOING TO WEAR YOU MUAHAHAHAHAHA
I have two chow chows... their coat is awesome. Super soft, warm. I've collected their hair as well. Good stuff.
What it terrific idea. Love it!!!
I like your style of teaching.
Given the amount of dogs as pets and all the shedding they do all year round, it is nice to have "fur" company wherein they will buy all those sheddings and u get a certain amount for it. These shedding will be raw material for clothing etc. It is sustainable and everyone including pets are happy
Besides the fur will definitely keep you warm as opposed to sweaters made from synthetic fibers which are def produced with lots of carbon footprints and other nasty stuff
this is awesome, innovative, and environmental.
Yes, you can knit with dog hair! My Bichon is 11 years old. I'm a knitter, and when she gets groomed, I collect the hair. When she dies, I'll knit something with her hair. Hopefully that won't be for a few more years!
the dog is thinking "wtf are you doing to my hair?"
Awesome!!! Thanks Kendall!
I have 2 Golden's that are getting older & I have thought about this often. I think it's wonderful to be able to have something of them still with you after they pass on. I don't think it's cruel to brush your pet and utilise their hair but I would hate for it to become a mass production industry like wool. I refuse to wear wool or leather and have no issue in wearing my lets fur- it's usually all over me anyway! I will start brushing and collecting now. Thank you for the tutorial.
I think pet shelters should do this. There isn't enough funding from donations so why not make good use of what's free and use the profit to feed the pets.
Absolutely!!
"Wool has several qualities that distinguish it from hair or fur: it is crimped, it is elastic, and it grows in staples (clusters)." Source: wikipedia.
A good reason not to wear any woolen sweater is because you'll get a strand of hair here and there always.
This is possibly the best video ever made by Vice.
whats wrong with dog hair? yall dont freak out when yall be wearing wolf coats that got shot and skinned. yet these are nice dog coats that are domesticated wolf versions and dont get abused & killed.
So cool no animals harmed in the making
Lol, they enjoyed it instead
bravo for this lady she is totaly ok
Rhett and Link brought me here.
ha!!! good mythical mornjng!!! I haven't seen that episode yet, but I'll have to check it out now
i feel like this is great cus its using the hairs the dog loses anyway where wool you have to shave it all off and i love the point she made about it being something that ud normally vacuum up
Loving this.
These look like the golf sweaters from the Fresh Prince. Hahahahahaha - the one that Hilary bought Uncle Phil and Aunt Viv and then Kareem had a matching one lmao. This shit is funny.
Wow! I could knit a cat plushie out of my cat's hair! If I knew how to spin or knit...
I know the feeling! I rescued a wolf-husky hybrid and even if I vaccuum and sweep today they'll be little hair piles in 48 hours ha
I love that woman, she is fricken awesome!
I love this!!! It's no stranger than wearing wool to me, and I wish I had learned of it before my beloved dogs passed on. And LOL @ "lube sweater" comment, now THAT would be something!!
people:kill animals to wear them! her :I'm just gonna save some animals
I’m a pet groomer and have about 400 lbs of hair in my industrial vacuum e dry 6 months can this be also spun?
Find and contact your local Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers, because yes, it probably could be spun. The final yarn produced will depend on how much coarse guard hair (top coat) is mixed in with lovely soft fluffy warm undercoat, and what mix of breeds may be in your hoover.
That's gonna save you money for so many years since you don't have to pay a lot to buy high quality sweaters
This Grandma is sooo cool she had a good idea
Vice is so odd sometimes i love it
If you just watch the whole thing, it may just answer most of your questions...lol.
Great now you can knit your cat a sweater, with its own fur. ftw. hahaha Mittens has mittens from her own mittens.
that sweater at 7:18 is cute i want it
As someone with aussies and farm animals dog hair is WAY cleaner!! I love this
just watching this, make my allergy burst to tear
Only because you said so, thanks for the input!
What I love about this is if nice people are treating their own dogs nicely to make this, that's one less mink coat, angora sweater, or wool scarf they're going to buy, all of which come from abused, brutalized animals. So this trend reduces the demand for abused-animal products. Thank you.
Bernese Mountain Dogs and Tibetan Mastiffs have had their hair used for industrial purposes for centuries.
We could save the world with dog yarn!
My dog sheds like monster and i'd love to try spinning some yarn outta all that floof. Theres nothin' inhumane about using something that our furry friend's bodies naturally cast off!
My family use to always joke we'd get our "Devil Dog" taxidermied/stuffed with red light up eyes and rollers. I think my mom would have preferred a scarf
Best way to troll somebody with an allergy. Ever.
Can you tell us the first step?''.
''Well first we need to get a dog.''
OHRLY.
I can't imagine how much dog fur is on her floor
+Nora Schlegel Probably not as much as you think, considering she probably brushes her dog/s a lot to get the fur which in turn prevents it from building up on the floor. There would only be specific locations were it'd be more likely noticeable (Where she's brushing and where she's spinning) but she seems to have nice hardwood floors, just with area rugs, which makes clean up a LOT easier than all carpet.
Wait wait wait... back up.. MY HAIR clogs my vacuum waaaaaaaaay more than my dogs.. does that mean... I COULD MAKE A SWEATER OF MY OWN HAIR?!?! Hello hair gem sweater.. here I come..
In more rural areas of the world with long haired dogs (and other animals) this makes complete sense, it's not strange at all. I'm quite surprised we don't hear more about dog yarns, but I guess dogs do the main work of protecting the sheep or llamas XD
This series is surprisingly very interesting. Not to say I thought it would suck, but it far exceeded my expectation for the topic. I like it :)
i'm making cat fur needle felted stuff at the moment, and this was nice to see
this looks pretty cool but yeah if I wore a sweater made of dog fur and someone asked me * whats your sweater made of * and I said dog fur I might have a fight on me hands
I'd collect my cats fur, and make her a a sweater from her own fur. LOL
Rachel Berry would totally wear that white dog sweater with the dog on it.
Heh Heh get ready family for some dog hair stuff. I have about 5 bags of my dogs hair from grooming him.
My Professor at Fashion Institute of Technology was telling me about Kendal Crolius and her dog wool fashion. What a neat concept!
In my 32 years of life this is some of the, most wildest shit ive ever seen & heard. "Crazy shit"
I used to work at a dog salon, and we used to always joke about this. One day a lady really did ask to keep the hair so she could make something with it. *shudder*
Spin their fur, make wallets and textiles from their skin, eat them. MANS BEST FRIEND!!!
SHEEP ARENT MY FRIENDS, LLAMAS DONT SLEEP ON MY SOFA.
You dont kill the dog, what are you talking about? Have you ever groomed a fluffy dog? You brush out a looot of super soft fur and you usually throw it out. This is pretty neat idead and no dog is harmed. They are brushed, not skinned.
No, lol it was the word "inappropriate" that I was using as if to say, "is it really appropriate to use dogs for garments.."? lol.
If there's ever a depression I'll just do this to survive
Those sweaters are lovely. I have a Great Pyrenees girl and she sheds like crazy. I have started to collect her fur. Anyone interested in buying it? It’s pure white. We bathe her once a month, and her fur doesn’t smell.
The fuck is wrong with people crying about it??? Holy shit, I wish I had a sweater made from this! So awesome.
I have a golden retriever, and I would like to surprise my mom with a scarf. I want it to be very thick. how much dog hair would I need to make one?
You might want to buy a book to read up on it but I read that 1-2 oz. blended with wool is enough for a pair of mittens or a scarf
about three bags of dog hair
+Kuwiwi Crystals for one scarf? Really? WOW.
Le Bish if you want it to be long
@@Iiterally 1-2 oz? Wtf
Im going to put an ad on craigslist get free dog hair. Hire a spinster. Make hats and sell them to hipsters. Im a tycoon.
How cute.
This whole concept makes me itch.
