Science Team! This is one of the strangest natural phenomena on the planet! My best friend Mike Cappetta and I took a 10-day journey across the world (literally on the other side of the planet from LA) to experience one the strangest and fascinating natural occurrences, the Indonesian Blue Fire!
I was told in school that a flame only became blue the hotter it is and that that is why with like lighters and stuff the flame is blue the closer to the end with the gas. So it's very interesting to see this, great video!
Was wondering about the acidic lake, but you already posted a video on that! :P. Albeit some time ago. As a kid I collected minerals and crystals, and was usually told not to touch sulfur with my hands. Always thought it was because of health reasons, but apparently it can't transfer heat well, causing crystals to crack! Guessing they use the pipes and barrels for condensation purposes?
hey! yes we did a whole video about the acidic lake (thanks for watching that) And you are 100% correct about the pipes, in fact I'm releasing another video that is the longer version of this video (more docu-style) and we talk about the pipes! I didn't know that about the heat transfer, but that's aweosme! It makes sense because with just a little bit of heat the cystals melt rapidly
To answer your questions, I have never heard of Ijen before your previous video involving your trip. I did know sulfur burned blue though. Nature can be overwhelmingly cool!
One day you'll be big Nick, keep these quality content coming. Also it helps if you advertise your channel more, comments in other people channel, not spamming just common comments.
This is very cool! What a great adventure you had seeing this phenomenon of nature!! If you buy sulfur for gardening, does it have the same qualities? Also, how did border control or customs react to you bringing this home; any troubles? Cheers Nick, keep up the great work you do!
Thank you so much! Any old pure sulfur will burn the same bright blue. I did get stopped for bringing the giant chunk of sulfur on the plane (checked bag), but only on my flight out of Indonesia... going through customs in the States was perfectly fine!
I remember watching the documentary version of this called “Blue Fire Trail” from Vancouver Web Fest & honestly inspired me to start doing vlogumentaries. Rebranding is tough but if you can see this Nick & Mike (met you guys in the same event): Thank you for this!
Thank you! 100% pure sulfur actually has no smell (strange I know), but all of the bi-products of lots of sulfur in a volcano smell terrible (hydrogen sulfide and sulfur dioxide)
I don't know why but I really like your channel man. I love the facts that my country havr something u know but I didn't and this means a lot for me and thank you for giving mr knowledge about my country.
Dude...I wouldn't want to get burned by those blue and violet flames. Blue and violet flames are among the hottest flame colors, especially the purple/violet ones.
This was a great video! Thank you so very much. You gave a plethora of information, conveyed with the same excitement I feel about this subject. Awesome...
Dude!!! I've been there once and that was sooooooooooo awesome! Just train your body and mind before climbing (or should i say TAKING A WALK???) Bcause its environment is really unusual if youre not a local. But it was worth!!! Really.!!! If you follow the rule n know your condition, it will absolutely ok! I wanna go there once more!!! Hahahahaha
Azula: amateurs Edit: If you're wondering, blue flames are scientifically comfirmed to be much hotter than ordinary yellow/orange flames. Blue flames burns about 2600°-3000° F degree while orange ones are about 2000°-2200° F degree.
Just use COPPER PIPE AND A GARDEN HOSE POP HOLES IN BOTH AND SLIDE THE PIPE IN THE HOSE & THROW IT IN A CAMP FIRE YOU WILL BE AMAZED WITH NOT JUST BLUE COLOR'S BUT MANY MORE THAN CONCEIVED...
Did you now in USA people will fumagate their home with sulfur candles. While at a hotel one of the customer service representative showed me a video clip. My guess it was sulfur burning. Trying to get there this year. How was the hike? Any recommendations?

awesome!!! You should go there man, it's truly a sight to see... so exotic!
1:30 The worst thing isn't the high humidity which makes you feel hot, it that when you stop you are wet and get cold very quickly!

YO MAN. lama lama indonesia jadi lebih terkenal tanpa bali dah...
- dude from indonesia
yea, what was he saying!? (probably telling us to get out of the way lol)
i was saying indonesia is getting more popular without the help of bali
and thanks for replying
There are hundreds of locations in Indonesia prettier than Bali and they are often devoid of tourists

if you can smell sulphur trough the mask, that means is not filtering it out properly, wich could be worse than not using a mask at all
Great work. Love your videos! Keep it going!!
Your neighbors must of just loved you for this experiment.
Much love to the cool Indonesia people!
Azula was here
Fire starts at 8:43 , you're welcome
I never heard of this volcano up until now.
finally you in my country
Wellcome to BANYUWANGI KAWAH IJEN
Nick where actually you stay? My father have some homestay/villa to stay, it called: kampoeng joglo ijen very recommended 👍👍
Hey dude uh… you wasn’t wrong. Stalagmites are a thing. Stalactites are the exact same thing but just formed facing a different direction.
Your vids are always worth it
I am indonesia and I never know about this blue fire I need to ask my dad
Your channel is so inspiring ❤️
what do you feel in Indonesia?
That's is Dabi Fire
Really great video! Good work! Thank you!
When he said "mancing mancing" i was like: yup he is in Indonesia
When you see blue fire that means dabi is there to kill you but if it's small blue fire and there's smoke that means dabi loves you
Did you now in USA people will fumagate their home with sulfur candles. While at a hotel one of the customer service representative showed me a video clip. My guess it was sulfur burning. Trying to get there this year.
How was the hike? Any recommendations?
If you don't have a permit, or if you don't buy something, don't mine or steal stones, minerals, or inorganic material from nature...
hallo from indonesia :D
Fadhli Aqmar hallo juga
Keep at it dude, you're amazing.
Indonesia 🇮🇩
6:20 After all this the guys didnt even tought of going for a swim in the lake
That girl with the pink face mask was ahead of her time
langsung ke dapur nyalain kompor... Blue Fire
Never seen blue fire that is cool :)
YOU CAME TO INDONESIA!? YASS.
Great video & science! Love it!
Here a random fact indonesia is my home
Dude, what was the lake like? Did you drop a can into it to watch it melt?
Growing down from the ceiling = stalactite.
Growing up from the ground = stalagmite.
C=Ceiling. G=Ground.
I thought blue fire is extremely hot, im surprised it didn’t melt the metal
Wow... thx for coming by 😅
Welcome too indonesian nick
Weirdly the blue fire doesn't look hot. To me it looks cool in temperature.
Azula has left the chat
Azula is not impressed
Hey question is it safe to touch when it is burning and is it hotter than red fire
I wasn’t paying attention did he say it was hotter than average fire?
