What is happening to the middle class today is and was self-inflicted. Buying the big house on a 40 year mortgage, buying $30,000 pickups that never carried a load except a $ 15,000 motorcycle. Those trips to Los Vegas, cars for the wife and kids. You name it they bought it and with credit cards cards to boot. Their kids in $100k in debt with a college loan for a degree in Pottery. It was a middle class that thought they were the rich.
My mother was a waitress and my father a switchman on the railroad. Both died poor because they spent their money on "I wants" not on "I needs" everything they bought was financed by the bank and when they died they left nothing for their 2 kids.
The one thing I learned from my parents was to not be like them. I bought few things that I wanted. I never borrowed money but I built my first home. I did not have a car until my Jr. year in college and it was used. I got my university degree with my G.I. bill and working part time loan free. Only bought 2 new cars after I retired and paid cash. Now at 77 I am building my 3rd home this time in Thailand. Today I would be considered well off and I got that way by saving and hard work. When I die my wife and son will be considered well off.
That's why 'Elites' hate President Trump...because he's so-called "New Money".
Inflation under this administration has not been this bad since Jimmy Carter!
Somehow middle class got to be a 3k sqft. home with a 3 car garage, luxury cars, hair and nails done all the time, going out to eat constantly, luxury vacations every year, and designer clothes. I know receptionists who live a more lavish lifestyle than doctors and lawyers I knew 30 years ago did. Even the upper middle class professionals used to clean their own house and mow their own lawn. Now you have single moms who hire a maid service and get doordash on a regular basis.
So how would restoring the gold standard fix this? Historically people suffered from mass poverty & starvation back when they used gold & silver for money.
Because there’s no central authority (bank) to inflate the value of the currency and give their criminal banker friends “first dibs” on this freshly circulated currency they use to bail themselves out, buy up and inflate the value of real estate and stocks…. while YOU the pleb continues slaving away for honest’s day of work by sacrificing the most limited resource you have: your time and energy.

People themselves are the primary cause of these issues. Some people seem to think they need to live like their parents and neighbors who built up wealth over time, but yet young people think they deserve the same things in their 20's instead of earning them by working and bettering themselves... Everyone thinks they need the latest cell phone, the biggest TV the nicest car...then they cry foul when they can't afford all the credit they borrowed on.

When you can steal with impunity things the middle class would normally buy. These items are then more expensive to cover for the thefts. Middle class then think twice about paying that price.
The cost of living problems are not only driven by global circumstances but also rampant retail theft. There more the store loses through theft the more it has to increase it's prices to compensate. Or shut shop completely, take the relocation costs on the chin and go somewhere else.
