- National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby joined the White House press briefing on Thursday to talk about the government reviews of the 2021 withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan. The White House summary of the reviews conducted by the State Department and Pentagon said that “President Biden’s choices for how to execute a withdrawal from Afghanistan were severely constrained by conditions created by his predecessor,” former President Donald Trump.

If it said constraints, I think that means they take responsibility for what did go wrong because of them also. I hope this report was put together by some mix of people from Trump and Biden. That would have ensured a more accurate evaluation of what happened. Doha Deal did keels troops safe, but it also ensured the Taliban would get Afghanistan back as soon as the deal was completed, meaning the withdrawal. Now Trump is going back on the deal he established and saying he would have stayed, meaning he lied about getting out. Biden made the tough decision to withdrawal, knowing it could be a political mess, that is not easy to do either.

When Trump made the Afghan withdrawal agreement with the Taliban in signed it on the 29th of February in 2020 that gave him 10 and a 1/2 months until January 20th of 2021 to come up with a plan, including list that included personnel civilians, contractors and equipment that needed to be removed from. Afghanistan.
As soon as trump lost the election, he started processes withdrawal troops from afghanistan, creating a sabotage campaign that would get soldiers killed. Also, it wasn't until June of 2021 that Ted Cruz. And all the republicans who knew that trump had made no plans for a clean withdrawal from afghanistan because the withdrawal date deadline was made the first for twenty twenty one.. Now with 10 and a 1/2 months to get list of people and equipment together that needed to be taken out of Afghanistan. You would think they would have had those lists. But you can look up on RUclips and see Ted Cruz. And all the other clowns from the Republican party asking where are the list? Where are the list?. Why would you be asking for something that should have already been in place. With the early withdrawal of troops and the lack of lists of equipment and personnel that needed to be evacuated in remove from the area. That's too strikes of sabotage, and that doesn't include releasing five thousand members of the taliban that were imprisoned that had killed american soldiers and had fought against american Soldiers. D***, they're sitting on the sidelines. Wondering why we went from one basin instead of going to another in the region was strategic. There were 2 roads into one and open territory on another. But you should know this mr veteran. Do you wanna start pointing fingers or saying you were betrayed? Or you would have turned your back. Maybe know your facts you probably have it. I think you mean "Emirate". The US military repatriated or destroyed almost all of its weapons in Afghanistan. The weapons that the Taliban got, as during much of the war, were ones we had provided to the Afghan military. Should we have disarmed them as part of our withdrawal?

I for one was never involved in any SCIF briefings.
Trump increased forces at one point before withdrawing down to 2,500. And we had to send more men in to evacuate Americans and Afghans.

@ Jack H Yes, the military always undercounted our troops in country by at least a few thousand, and didn't count the thousands of hired guns we brought in. Whenever called on it, they'd say things like "Well, a lot of those pilots were billeted to the Arab Gulf," or "It's standard procedure not to count TDYers " (troops on 'temporary duty' to a given place), or "The contractors were just guards, and hardly count, or "We weren't allowed to say how many people were with the Agency."

What's there to discuss? Even if had stayed 20 more years, and withdraw in a good fashion way, the next day the taliban would have taken over, we cannot change how people love to live, that's how they like it, and it was a waste of money but more importantly a waste of our service men. We learned, we just have to give Ukraine cluster munitions and longer range weapons and none of our troops need to die...

There have been investigative reports covering the botched drone strike in Kabul as well. What is your confusion? Are you unaware of these reports? Or just flailing in general?

And I don’t understand why they’re now saying the evacuation didn’t happen quickly enough when it was they who pushed back the withdrawal deadline from May to September 11th and then to late August.

BTW, not getting the plans they detailed are critical to why withdrawal went beyond May 2021. That means they lost almost 2 months of planning for potential issues related to not knowing the plans in place for visas and protection plans. They would have had names of people to get out before May 2021 on day one of the Biden Admin. Remember, the 2000 election is considered one of the biggest reasons 9/11 was not stopped. Delaying transition documentation a new administration is critical to national security and foreign policy.
Biden came up with his own withdrawal plans. If they used Trump's plan it would have been done months before.
