Lately I’ve been recognising more and more everyday how deeply I’ve fallen into a spiral of unconscious content consumption. You’re absolutely right in saying that consciousness is what’s at stake and it’s the difference between taking in art in a lasting manner and merely letting content fill in the gaps of everyday activity
This was brilliant. I also think that the importance of learning things in the context of our own lives is drastically underemphasised in society today. Certain neurological pathways NEED to be formed in the context of our own personal experience; consuming content is only one part of developing knowledge, I think people forget that, including myself sometimes haha
Awesome video! I'm so glad I found you! Art is truly a great tool to learn stuff for life, but I always have thought that media shouldn't isolate us from reality, but instead it should inspire us to improve reality and ourselves! :) (Also, great choice in music 😊)
There's nothing wrong with just entertainment or whatever frome time to time. I try to read some days and workout. I do watch TV and RUclips sometimes at the same time. I do try my best to cycle on and off each thing and do my best to take something from everything and learn something on the daily.
I agree with all of this, but I still find myself resistant to it. I think its because I've ended up using media as a way to keep myself company, as I am by myself most of the time. Its become hard to play a video game, go for a drive, or cook dinner without having familiar voices engaging in the background. I can recognize some of the negative effects of overconsumption, but the idea of taking part in those activities without the company of a podcast or a RUclips video just feels entirely unpleasant.
