Dr. Harrelson continues to lengthen my ever-expanding reading list. And I must say that bourbon and ginger ale means that you truly do have fine taste, sir... Very fine indeed!
Thank you Dr. Harrelson! As a retired librarian who finally has time to read, your book suggestions are indeed piling up on the nightstand. I’ll definitely tell my brother the Dawg, who now lives happily in Athens on his own piece of the good earth, about Kibler and his works.
I'm currently reading a collection of Flannery O'Connor's letters, and am itching to read all things Southern! I wish we'd gotten more in high school, but aside from some Faulkner stories, it was pretty lacking.
Newberry is an old mill town where my father met my mother while he was attending Newberry College. By the way, I knew some Harrelsons in Clarendon County.
I’ve read many of his books, starting with Walking Toward Home, and all the Chauncey Doolittle novels. In this book I love his description of the thunderstorm and the finding of the antique dip pen!
Thanks for another reading suggestion. I have about 8 books on my table I am trying to read ranging from Shelby Foote to Orthodox Christianity, and Catholicism. Just bought a book on Longstreet as well. What’s one more. For real though, keep it coming. This content is quality!
Walking Toward Home, The Education of Chauncey Doolottle, Memory’s Keep and Tiller is the order I believe, at least that was the order I read them in. Read his collection of short stories entitled Child To The Waters
Searching online to determine if Jim Kibler was still among the animated, I discovered your web presence. Considering your worshipful attitude toward Jim, may I offer a counterpoint? Many here in Athens GA still considered him a walking argument for the abolishment of tenure. As to your own online persona, I’ll give you the same advice I gave Dr. Cornel West: too much shtick. A little drawl goes a long way.
This is a beautiful tribute. Happy belated birthday to Dr. Kibler!
I always enjoy your stories about the Deep South.
I also highly recommend Kibler's moving collection of verse, "Poems From Scorched Earth."
Those words are healing to the soul

Where the skies are so blue
Sweet home Alabama
Lord, I'm coming home to you" -- Lynyrd Skynyrd
Good Afternoon 😊 Thank You and God Bless You 🙏🏽 Greetings From South Africa 🇿🇦
Jim is a treasure!
Music in our shuffling feet. Love ir!
Well, you've gotten me reading "The Southern Tradition at Bay". I suppose yet another book on the nightstand ever hurt anyone.
I am reading “Ideas Have Consequences” before I get to that one.
