  • Season 2, Episode 12.....
Mona Island is a small island located about 40 miles off the Western Coast of Puerto Rico and is the most remote island that we have visited yet. We ran into some hunters who were camping on the island for hunting season and welcomed us into their camp to eat and drink!! They also told us where the lobsters were located, so we went Lobster hunting.

My great grandfather was Serapio Arroyo, he was the Conservator of the Isla Mona, I have never been able to set foot in that island. I’m 42 years old. Maybe one day, it will happen but I was glad you shared this as it shows how amazing our people are- Mona is an island part of Puerto Rico such as Vieques and Culebra on the west side of the island and many other smaller tiny islands that became along with Puerto Rico a territory of the United States, we are citizens of the United States like mainland citizens of the states except we are not treated like state, we cannot vote in Presidential election unless we live in the mainland but however presides over the United States as president also governs over legislation that affects PuertoRicans in the island.

Hi there thank you for visiting Puerto Rico ( Mona the Galapagos of the Caribbean )... Mona was discover by colombus in his 2 Trip and had always been a remote island was use by some Pirates to hide there treasures in the Mona cave's making Mona a real Pirate island ( like the island of Tortuga ) some very famous pirates had stop in Mona one of them you my not know is Roberto coferesi de Arellano a Puerto Rican pirate from the 1700 and the real inventory of the Pina colada ( forget that story that was invented in old San Juan in 1963 or in the carribe Hilton hotel in the 50's..)..i know that he use to prepare a drink for he's Man and friends before he attack a ship made of Coconut, pineapple and run. Aren't does the ingredients of the Pina colada..???...you tell me...or look in he's pirate history or at the Cabo rojo museum....by the way these not rabbits in Mona...to hunt only pig's and goats whit the occasional cat.( They are considered a pest and eat the endeger iguanas and bird's )...Mona is a wildlife reserve and study area you need a permit to camp and be in the Island ( No one out of the hunters is allowed for safety reasons that's way they use a orange vest ) you are only allow in the Sommer time in groups and is not permitted to explore out some designated areas ( Mona is a dengerus place some people have daid in Mona because they didn't fallow the safety rules )....more information from Mona in DRN of Puerto Rico...

Even de driking alcohol and taking the cocconuts is not allowed. These hunters know and dont follow the rules. Enforcement officials (rangers) in Mona should have talk to you on this. You also need a permit to stay in Mona. The island is a Marine Protected Area and land natural reserve, you can look it up. Now you know... Some people fish lobsters even when they know is illegal... If you go to Mona island from any place in Puerto Rico or U.S virgin islands its okay, you can sail to any off shore island since they all are part of U.S, but If a person comes from Dominican Republic or any island or country that its not part of U.S or your boat its not registered in the U.S/Puerto Rico/U.S.V.I you will get stop by the U.S customs and border patrol. We're is the Federal guard that is supposed to keep an eye in this place,if natives come to Mona they would come up with all this rules about all this permits,I bet that the alcalde from mayagues know about this, funny! even home made rum call pitorro!!Home made alcohol,,that's the reason we have a big problem with borders in PR,cause the border patrol might be in pitorro lol😤the American federal government have all this rules but they are made for native Puertoriqueños🤔Only friends of the alcalde just to look the other way $ this should be investigated at once!

Once I was in a aguada Beach under small palm tree, and this person said he was from the park service, and told me I can't be there! One year after the hurricane went in vacation with mom and sis, at Isla Verde around ocean park, this guy came and just sits next to us and the place was empty,I mean next to my sis steering and made us uncomfortable so we left, days later on the same beach we met this couple and in conversation the experience the same,so this man that sale's beers, told us that the men gets pay to make sure no one gets close to the fences at the houses at the beach,so we were way he didn't explain himself we felt scare and we were under palm trees not the fence, Puerto Rico tourism should be aware about all this with there native Islanders!!!!!

It must have been hard to communicate with the Puerto Ricans because they can't speak English

Puerto Ricans can speak English and we can speak a little Spanish, but not much. We actually wish we could speak Spanish a lot better, so we could get to know the people and culture of this wonderful island even more.

Alex James I blame congress for not making us a state. We would’ve been speaking English by now.
