well now i get it from you, other youtubers you mention and google. Before i was using these care guides but thankfully I hadn't bought any animals yet.. going to get our first reptile later this year.
Whenever I was helping people prepare for their own scale babies in a place like this, I always pointed customers to a care guide on an exotic vet's website and made it clear that their care guide is superior to the paper guide.
Nice video! One comment on veiled chameleons, in many cases a hybrid enclosure is better than a screen enclosure. A hybrid enclosure has solid sides allowing for the humidity to remain higher but still allows for ample air flow. Most homes are way too dry for full screens due to heating and air conditioning. Bill is definitely a must watch and subscribe for a chameleon keeper.
Well congrats, Petsmart! One thing, Editor Matt: can things be left on screen longer so they can actually be read, please? 😬 Maybe my eyes are old and slow but im sure im not the only one 😝
As a petstore manager, and reptile hobbyist, I tell my team to mark these care guides up! Cross out what’s old and add what’s needed. At least until corporate can catch up. Which hopefully is soon! It’s always a catch 22 with people. Wanting these animals to be set up for success but also not wanting them sold at all 😢
Surprisingly, the petsmart in my area dropped the caring and selling animals and actually sells products only now. The usual water bowls, substrates, etc.
Hopefully they update the bad ones. I’ve been seeing improvements at the petsmart and petco shops I go to recently. Even the animals look a lot better. I just wish they’d get rid of the reptile carpet. I think as long as the community continues to grow and people are better educated about reptile care there’s a chance that big chain stores can finally keep their animals in at least livable conditions.

I work at PetSmart in the pet care department and I never give people care guides even though we're supposed to. They have some good basic info but nothing you couldn't get in more detail online. Things are better than in the past when PetSmart sold iguanas, but there are still things like fishbowls (literally all fish should be in proper tanks) that I always steer people away from. And unfortunately bearded dragons have a high mortality rate due to being shipped here almost right after hatching.
I would love to see more, I really enjoy this series, not because of the usually lack of proper care advice on the Petsmart care guides, but because it goes to show just how much Petsmart, the biggest pet store retail in all of the United States and Canada potentially (Petco included), just how little they really know about what they’re selling. I pains me just to think about all the people, whether a parent of young children or anyone who actually takes everything they say as truth, and trust that they are correct, end up with an unhealthy reptile with subpar and unacceptable living conditions. This series really brings that to light, and honestly no hate on these pet stores, but they should at least know the basics of these care guides, and be PROPERLY educated, before giving incorrect advice about these animals to unbeknownst people who trust them. And I am quite surprised how accurate the Cuban False Chameleon care guide was. These have so much potential, to help others know the truth about the care these reptiles, but all it takes is proper research, and proper information, so that these creatures have an excellent life, as well the their owners who know better and care for them with correct information.
They have a guide for Royal Pythons, so you could check that one out if you decide to do another episode of this. 🐍 I also learned that male Cuban False Chameleons have a very high sex drive from this video! 😲

So this was funny timing as I was just at Petsmart yesterday looking at BP guides as well. I felt really bad for the one BP I was looking at. I'd say 50 - 75% of her enclosure was taken up by one large water dish and one hide that she wasn't even using. She was also in what I can assume was a 10 Gallon enclosure. The Humidity in her enclosure was so bad that you couldn't even see into it from the front because of all the condensation on the glass. I asked the guy who worked there if I could see her and all he did was pull out the drawer so I could see her from above, he told me he couldn't actually take her out for me to see her which I thought was a bit of a red flag. (I'd almost wager she has scale rot). I asked the guy if he knew how old he was and he had no idea, his best bet was maybe 6 months old. I asked him if he knew what Morphs she was and he had no idea. I checked the care label on her enclosure and it was all (to my knowledge) wrong information. It read that BP's are only forest dwelling animals that need a singular heatsource of 80-90 degrees and their humidity should be 30-50%. I couldn't believe how inaccurate it was. The pamphlet guide was a bit better but still had misinformation. I also found mites in the Hornworm enclosure and they all weren't moving at all so ... there was also that ... I felt so bad for her and wanted to rescue her but at this current time I couldn't =[.
@strangepetscmty thank you for the advice! Unfortunately I was in there to pick my dog up from her grooming app and took a peek at the reptiles while I waited. I'm still a week away from bringing my first BP home so i figured I was okay but in definitely taking your advice once I get it :). I'm sorry to hear about your mite infestation as well 😬

All the while, explaining to them, the care and upkeep and explaining why what does say is wrong? Blah, blah, blah, anyway, I'm gonna watch your video now.
One questions where they actually get this info from. Like how do they think this is care info? Where do they learn these facts? Who says these facts are true?
I live in România and we have our own Pet Smart Like store that is called Animax and it's even worse than Petsmart. For exemple On their official site they recommend that an Adult Leopard Gecko could live in 10L tank and that will Be 2,6 Gallons💀💀
3ft tall enclosure seems small for a veiled, you might be able to get away with it for a female panther chameleon, but veileds are larger than panthers and 4ft tall by 2 ft deep and wide seems to be the bare minimum. Larger is always better!

I'm sorry to hear about your mite infestation as well 😬
@@strangepetscmty Awesome! Thank you, i'll definitely get myself some as soon as I can! Aslo i'm so glad to hear you were able to solve your Mites outbreak and your babies were okay :)
Cool shirt where did you get it?
honestly, I have no idea, it's been in my closet for like ten years haha
@@WickensWickedReptiles well just my luck lol
Can you do a care guide about viper geckos
for sure
@@WickensWickedReptilesthanks bro love your videos
8:07 death by snu snu?
more or less
Veiled chameleons do require vegetation like mixed greens. FramsChams or any other professional breeder would let you know.
Omfg bro yes. Petco gave me a free bag of crickets when I bought my first corn snake . Lmfao the snake doesn't eat crickets idk why they said that and even had crickets in the tank
coming soon!
Ideally they’d take feedback and change to make things better! Great video!
Definitely!
I used to work for Petco a 100 years ago. And I remember taking those care sheets and editing them for people, right In front of them and in front of management and other customers, I did not care LOL. All the while, explaining to them, the care and upkeep and explaining why what does say is wrong? Blah, blah, blah, anyway, I'm gonna watch your video now.
Can u do a crested gecko care guide or tank build pls
I agree with ur videos ur the inspiration for my love of reptiles!
thanks for watching!
I live in Rochester NY and lately PetSmart is doing better with pets than Petco.
I'm so surprised these were so good. I have a feeling the ball python one will be terrible.
I'm shocked too!
One questions where they actually get this info from. Like how do they think this is care info? Where do they learn these facts? Who says these facts are true?
I live in România and we have our own Pet Smart Like store that is called Animax and it's even worse than Petsmart.
For exemple On their official site they recommend that an Adult Leopard Gecko could live in 10L tank and that will Be 2,6 Gallons💀💀
that is freakin wild!
You could do a video were you check Care guides of Other Pet Stores Around the world
3ft tall enclosure seems small for a veiled, you might be able to get away with it for a female panther chameleon, but veileds are larger than panthers and 4ft tall by 2 ft deep and wide seems to be the bare minimum. Larger is always better!
do a Mediterranean house gecko next plz
To quick to read i had to back up and take a few tries to pause to beable to read it
Can you say hello to my mantis lillith?
I always throw their guide in the garbage and that’s if they have anything worth getting
u can do petco see if there's a difference
we don't have any here in Canada. Not sure how I'd get them
I like these videos.
