- A drive from London road before the bypass and Pierrefitte way were built, when you had to drive through Grenville road. Off towards Rayne passing Barn garage at 38p litre Shell then an old Ushers milk float before heading through Rayne past the old school
That was lovely to see. I used to live in one of the two houses on the hill as you would turn right off Rayne Road , to the lane leading to Ushers farm. My Dad was his ploughman. He used to win ploughing competions for Usher. We moved there from Suffolk in 1954. I now live in Cornwall. Love your Dads accent.
Sheila Breslin Thank you! It’s all changing near where you lived with the so called “Rayne Garden” development now. My dad was born in Cornwall (St Buryan) and moved here in the 40s because no work in Cornwall where he met my mum at Bocking village hall. He always kept that accent. Both passed on now
Yes a few years after this they built the bypass which dramatically changed the landscape. Ever since then braintree changed at a rapid pace.
Great video, took me back to my childhood, thanks
Heard about them bldg that & now most used.
haha my old house on left going up grenville road used to be sweet shop road blocked off now

T C news. Used to do the papers for them.
Thanks for these nostalgic trips!!!
Reminiscent of hitchcok
Brilliant! I could remember Braintree pre-bypass vaguely but it was fascinating to go back in time like this. Thanks for uploading!
Jimmynumnuts Thanks Jimmy! Filmed in a 1981 Fiesta with my old dad holding the camcorder
Ha ha I thought that looked like a mk1 Fiesta dash! Scary that was over 30 years ago! 😮
Jimmynumnuts no one had a bigger Dashcam than me back then!
Yes I’m surprised there was room for you, your dad and the camcorder! Please upload if you have any more old Braintree footage.
Jimmynumnuts I remember Dad calling the car a “Dagenham dustbin” as we bumped along over the hard packed snow lol.
just uploaded another of the Braintree scouts marching through town 1999
wow amazing what things have changed and also what still remains! even the trees look so much smaller in this video
Oh fuck I remember this!! Schools were shut instead, Braintree Jesus Christ’ thanks for this 👍🏻👍🏻
This was the time that the COOP, Woolworths and The Blue Dolphin Fish and Chip restaurant nr. sandpit lane was in existence, good old days!
In fact this was filmed not long before construction of the bypass started.
Wow that s way way back in time & a whole way of life gone.
When Grenville Road was a main through road.
That s me walking along the Rd. Tahoe City. Any where USA.87. our lonely lives.
❄️❄️⛄☃️😍😍
I used to live in the house at 1:55, corner of London Road/Clare Road, the one behind the lorry in top left of screen when I moved here around 1988
Crowder
My auntie live there now got a nice basement
@@johnstonlee I know the basement
I lived at number 18 when I was a small child. I remember my father forgot to take some vintage wine bottles in the cellar worth hundreds of pounds each when we moved out, and the new owners drank them in coffee cups to celebrate moving in 😂.
@@MrLordingit 👍☺
Oops, though it was from Braintree, Ma -USA
omg rayne has changed do mych from now u went straight pass my house
Kevin C who was your camera man credits to him
Ah that would be my late father who had poor eyesight but done a great job!
Kevin C good job well done I say. He did it well mate 👍🏽 back in the days in the mk1 fiesta. I live in Braintree and it’s good to see footage of a while back.👌
FPV FREAKY I had that Fiesta 950 popular for around 10 yrs from new, reliable it was. Though my dad lived in Essex since the mid 40s he kept his native Cornish accent!
so Pods Brook Road didn't exist before the bypass?
I remember there was a truck depot and office for Hunnable’s before the turning just to the Broomhill industrial estate. Pods brook road was built for the bypass link Simon

And not many cars on the roads or parked on the side of roads
