I've been engrossed in the Cignetti's football team this fall, so this is the first I've had time to see the basketball team. Frankly, it looks like the football team are a bunch of high level athletes flying around the field in dominating fashion and watching this I feel like I'm watching high school kids practicing. Woodson, like Cig, has a bunch of experienced portal guys, but they look flat footed. I'll hold off judgement for when I see them in real games, but I am anything but impressed with this.
I liked: 1) Goode & Hatton make good decisions and are capable of hitting 3s ... 2) Rice as a confident floor leader, Rice hitting a 3 3) Ballo a killer in the paint 4) MgBako a potential scoring machine 5) Tucker as a reliable mid-range threat Did NOT like: 1) Reneau getting stripped in the paint, then standing there as the other 9 run back down court!!! 2) Just like last year, I already see indications that Woody is giving Reneau too much rope 3) Reneau refusing to consistently compete on both ends 4) Rice taking a 3 from the corner and missing everything 5) Cupps clanking an 18 footer - his mechanics are terrible Summary The popular notion that Ren and Ballo cannot be on the floor at the same time is beyond ridiculous ... Please note that Ballo and Reneau were on the floor at the same time and both got their share of good opps ... MgBako and Reneau should average mid-high teens, but we'll be focused on the ability of the starters to hit 3s.
Goode at this point has to start because he’s the only outside threat. Obviously that could change but he’s too good of a shooter on a bad shooting team to leave on the bench
@@m0hoosier Your right about that he looks polished at shooting those 3's. I was not impressed with Carlyle and how his shot looked. I want to see at least 17 3's in the first exhibition and 17 that not a lot that's a low water mark but if we are taking 13-14 a game I don't know....
@@duncan2993 I think it's possible that "M" could be the team's top scorer but still decide to return next year. Not a great ball-handler ... he does not have an NBA handle and it may push him down to the second round ...
A lot to like. Rice and Carlyle will be game changers. When is the last time IU had guards like that? Johnson and Blackmon? They were better shooters, but think of who IU has had since. MM, Goode, Rice, will be the keys. Ballo, Gallo, and Reneau will, I think, be consistent. Focus from the jump will be important. Let’s go!
@@sycamorebacker1 It isn’t so much about what they did in an intrasquad scrimmage, but what we know they can do - which already surpasses the guards IU has had in the recent past. They present a vastly different offensive threat than a backcourt of Johnson and Galloway, and certainly Cupps.
@@duncan2993 Good point, I hope you're right. I like coach Woodson, just not as Indiana's coach and this is the year I want him to change my mind and the year I hope he gets his head out of the NBA fog.
@@dabneyoffermein595 Good teams get a lot of layups, but they have all year to improve and develop into a cohesive unit. They have enough individual talent. I would like to see Reneau get more inside touches.
Reneau MgBako Goode Carlyle Rice 6-Ballo 7- Galloway 8- Tucker 9- Cupps 10man Hatton once Reneau gets in early trouble and Ballo grabs two first half fouls. Energy and experience off the bench.
Ballo and Reneau together on the court wouldnt work out the best i fear. Ballo will get his 22-24 mpg eitherway as he would as a starter. So that doesent really matter.
The goat Matt is back
Thank you for your support.
Tucker's fade aways are a thing of beauty
It's definitely an NBA-style shot ...

A lot of people taking a preseason scrimmage way too serious lol
Do you think Woodson told them not to run their offense?

Its a scrimmage ppl...no injuries plz
Bingo. Its really funny reading some of the comments here.
Starters were struggling against the backups. Woodson switched up the lineup so that people might not notice.
Was a short 12 minute scrimmage. Literally nothing can be taken from this. In a full 40 minute scrimmage, red would have won going away.
where the three point shooting
Look pretty rough in the early going. Lots of back iron and airball shots.
Nothing changes but the names

There has to be accountability and discipline from top down. I'd say they could be molded by Hurley, Shaka Smart and a few others.

Rice looked really good against TN. But he needs to pick his drives better. He must have gotten blocked 4-5 times. I like him, though.
Looks like a Woodson offense. Stagnate with no shooting. SMH.
Looks like they are afraid to take it to the basket.

very disappointing showing by the starters, wow. Woodson, what's going on?
😬 Well that didn't look promising.. Offense looks just as bad as it did last year
