Wow. A lot has changed in Downtown Canton, but, surprisingly enough, a great deal has not. I was born in '92, so I've always wondered what Canton looked like when my mom was my age. Thank you for posting this video.
Hahaha “sundee”...you guys and your pronunciation are the best My dad is from Canton and we go out there every year for thanksgiving to visit with my (now almost 100 year old) grandmother. It’s one of my favorite places in the world.
Thanks for posting this! I was just 10 when we moved to FL, but I still remember a few of the landmarks in this video. And since it was shot only a few years after we left, that's how I remember it!
Thanks for posting this. I was born and raised in Canton (I'm 35). I live close to downtown and drive by the downtown area on a daily basis. It's 100 times worse now than what you show on your home video. It would be great if you could make a new video and drive on the same roads to show the difference.
One of the few improvements that have been made recently is the litle park that's sprung from the demolition of the Kresge Block, and a mini Arts district has kind of sprung up.
My mom told me how in 8th and 9th grade, she wandered around Canton for hours with her friend. She went to that abandoned high school in the neighborhood where here grandpa’s house burned down
I miss the old way that Canton looked before & my dad ran the Red Head gas station on Cherry Street & my dad and grandpa ran the old Certified Gas Station out east Tusc going towards East Canton
Been living downtown since 2004...16 years now. Visually, it's much better than in 1986. The post modern 60s ugly square has been replaced with a more traditional look. Krege's and the Hotel Francis have been razed. The Onesto and other buildings have been renovated. There is more open space and fewer ugly houses crowding the commercial center. There are less people living round downtown and so less of the wrong population is a GOOD thing.
Wow...lots of ugly, boxy cars with hard lines. Amazing how you forget or didn't notice what buildings used to exist and what they looked like. Lots of tunnel vision, especially with all the iphones and people looking down at their hands all the time, never noticing what's around them.
believe me things have changed in canton ohio but we dont have a lot of shopping areas downtown canton anymore so during the weekend usually a sunday no one is downtown shopping. mostly bussiness buildings. but busy on the weekdays
This video brings alot of memories back..I was born & raised in Canton

You do not want to return. There has been numerous gang murders.

Very interesting. Nice to see businesses in some of those now-empty buildings.
I knew I wasn't dreaming! Canton really was a safer place....once upon a time.
