The "hypocritical oath" thing is really funny because it's also extremely accurate because he keeps doing stuff extremely contrary to his actual goal while swearing he still wants to do said goal.

It's kinda reassuring to know this wasn't recorded in one take because I was wondering what level of superhuman comedy skills y'all had to make that work in one go.
A MAJORITY of it was the first take but we definitely did some post production stuff to land a couple scenes in particular and make continuity work out better

After I first discovered the Sonic fandubs I started muting ads I got and voicing over them to entertain myself. But then it became such a habit that I did it in front of my sister and she started dying laughing. It's a funny little exercise in improv that I recommend to anyone who thinks these videos sound like a lot of fun to make. Just wanted to comment and say how much Do No Harm has meant to me. It got me through like a month+ bout of really bad anxiety, and was the highlight of every week this was coming out. This is my favorite fandub, and one of my favorite, things, I've seen in a very long time. Thank you so so much to all the members of the cast for this truly incredible piece of art.
English isn't my first language so I didn't understand that Tarzan broke his one-syllable rule with that "just bring three bullet". So I always thought the "F*CK" was Clayton's response to what Tarzan just said, which I found equally funny

i havent said this anywhere yet so i might as well say it here: holly's interpretation of sora is my favourite fandub character there has ever been. so many of those little vocal nuances and catchphrases have embedded themselves in my internal monologue ever since the trailers for this dub came out. i havent been able to stop saying "and im gettin really impassionate about it" or "it makes the happiness in my smile" ever since those respective episodes have come out. ive started watching joe pera and penny's deltarune vods just to get more of this voice (granted, i wouldve watched the deltarune vods anyway). everything about this character makes me so happy and ive never even seen anything relating to kingdom hearts prior to this dub. im spinning and rotating him and exploding him in my mind. thank you holly hollowtones for the best and biggest and sword character there is
I love the bit of Scorpy remembering Yuffie's name and it was only possible cause of this collab. I'm glad Scorpy got to play the KH games before this fandub cause that got him to have Cid make very specific game mechanic jokes lol.
Fr, I think it also a similar joke that Benrey does where he just randomly just mentions game mechanics in the most blunt way possible, and it's really funny
Between referencing game mechanics and outright quoting KH lines it really elevated the fandub for me as a longtime KH fan, the amount of attention and care they put into this was incredible
@theMyRadiowasTaken I might be mixing it up with the HLVRAI BTS commentary but I swear there's moments where Benrey just very bluntly tells Gordon what they need to do or random actually ingame mechanics. Cause I know at least Dr. Coomer had it under the guide of NPC dialogue.
@Kyezoaryeah the closest i remember is benrey calling something a "psychic puzzle" and saying that powerade "replenishes your electronics" but i dont think he ever really acknowledged game mechanics or tried to be helpful in any way shape or form in the way coomer did lol. scorpy also had never played halflife 1 by that point so it wouldnt make much sense for him to have made that kind of joke

i'm glad that you made the rule that the dub wouldn't revolve around streaming or gaming or meta stuff, i think having that limitation made it feel more distinct and also forced everyone to be more outlandish with their bits
Yeah, they can be funny when done well but imo the forced meta angle completely ruined the Until Dawn dub towards the end. It made it impossible for anyone to make actual jokes past a certain point and added nothing to the bit.
@bentwomey384tbh i think the long exploration sections are the biggest reason why the meta jokes in rude mountain started to fall flat towards the end. scout is extremely funny but it's hard for anyone to do self improv for so long without treading some water. still a good dub imo and i think they pull it together by the end, but part 1 was definitely stronger than part 2

I just want to say as a Sophie fan, I clocked you in every scene and told my friend "that must be Sophie" and checked on the credits and was right every time. My friend was like "damn she always knocks it out of the park." I also loved how much Sophie paid homage to the original series with the iconic Kairi and Roxas to Xion* lines.
Yeah!! I don't get why people couldn't clock her, everytime a Sophie character came on screen I had to go "Omg funny Sophie moment". Very distinct voice!
1:51:54 The insane part is that this actually does make sense after episode 5 context, and kinda with the story context of the original game. It just implies that Leon knows way more than he reasonably should. In the dub, Sora was already a doctor, he just didn't know it. And in the original game, Sora wants to find Riku and Kairi and make sure that they're ok after the storm, but Kairi's spirit is basically fused with Sora's until Hollow Bastion. (Note: this is the only weird plot point in the game, literally everything else is Disney World). Either way, the thing that Sora was looking for was already within him the whole time, and he doesn't know it.
It was a super weird experience keeping up with the series whilst going through heart monitoring. Immersion immaculate, and everyone did such a good job in bringing this together.

This is also why they only did the Subspace dub as an april fools joke, cause the cue for talking is just that your character in on screen and saying something. In the climax of the shadow dub there was a few moments that made me kinda get how this was done. During Black Doom's big mental breakdown, there's a couple points where Sonic and his friends just interject, and they only give the cast like a couple of words before the game cuts back. So in the context of the dub, Eggman, Sonic and Knuckles are basically just interjecting into this private conversation between Shadow and Black Doom. And I think that Eggman repeating "The dust!" and Knuckles saying "Iiiii'm Knuckles! F you f you f you!" are so out of pocket that it becomes funny, but you can also tell that the scene is just giving the voices nothing to work with. If I was playing Knuckles in that scene, I don't know what else I could have even said.
I haven't been that down bad in ages. So glad I'm over Twitch, glad people I like can make money there but that platform, the video player, its all just terrible.
So many of Scorpy’s characters sounded like Baaulp to me, to the point where I said to my sister, who introduced me to both RTVS and SnapCube, “How come Scorpy can do a Baaulp voice?” Followed by me going “oh my god wait that one’s scorpy too.” Before the dub, I pulled up a cast list so I would know who everyone was, and I just assumed other people tried to know that, too.

Utada Hikaru (singer of Simple and Clean, Sanctuary, Don't Think Twice, and Face My Fears) is the person who wrote Hikari originally before Kingdom Hearts. It was for her own album. Disney wanted her to make a song for the game, so she decided to make Simple and Clean of a similar yet different melody (the beginnings being different). Sanctuary is also an English version based off her original Japanese song "Passion". And Don't Think Twice is her song in her Hatsukoi album called "Chikai (Oath)". I love the bit of Scorpy remembering Yuffie's name and it was only possible cause of this collab. I'm glad Scorpy got to play the KH games before this fandub cause that got him to have Cid make very specific game mechanic jokes lol.

Between referencing game mechanics and outright quoting KH lines it really elevated the fandub for me as a longtime KH fan, the amount of attention and care they put into this was incredible

@Kyezoaryeah the closest i remember is benrey calling something a "psychic puzzle" and saying that powerade "replenishes your electronics" but i dont think he ever really acknowledged game mechanics or tried to be helpful in any way shape or form in the way coomer did lol. scorpy also had never played halflife 1 by that point so it wouldnt make much sense for him to have made that kind of joke

I think you guys nailed the "uncomfortably medical" nature of the lyrics, it reads like a love letter from like hannibal lector or some shit.

Yeah, they can be funny when done well but imo the forced meta angle completely ruined the Until Dawn dub towards the end. It made it impossible for anyone to make actual jokes past a certain point and added nothing to the bit.
@bentwomey384tbh i think the long exploration sections are the biggest reason why the meta jokes in rude mountain started to fall flat towards the end. scout is extremely funny but it's hard for anyone to do self improv for so long without treading some water.
still a good dub imo and i think they pull it together by the end, but part 1 was definitely stronger than part 2

i never realised the thing about yuffie's dialogue in original ff7, and it's the funniest thing to me SPECIFICALLY because KH Re:Coded does The Exact Same Thing, but with CLOUD. he's an optional party member so all of his dialogue is just little interjections that don't add anything and sora and herc just carry on as if he's not even there. now he knows how yuffie must have felt lmfao
I just want to say as a Sophie fan, I clocked you in every scene and told my friend "that must be Sophie" and checked on the credits and was right every time. My friend was like "damn she always knocks it out of the park."
I also loved how much Sophie paid homage to the original series with the iconic Kairi and Roxas to Xion* lines.

1:51:54 The insane part is that this actually does make sense after episode 5 context, and kinda with the story context of the original game. It just implies that Leon knows way more than he reasonably should. In the dub, Sora was already a doctor, he just didn't know it. And in the original game, Sora wants to find Riku and Kairi and make sure that they're ok after the storm, but Kairi's spirit is basically fused with Sora's until Hollow Bastion. (Note: this is the only weird plot point in the game, literally everything else is Disney World). Either way, the thing that Sora was looking for was already within him the whole time, and he doesn't know it.
It was a super weird experience keeping up with the series whilst going through heart monitoring. Immersion immaculate, and everyone did such a good job in bringing this together.

1:27:07 I figured it was Penny moving around the audio during video editing. This is also why they only did the Subspace dub as an april fools joke, cause the cue for talking is just that your character in on screen and saying something.
In the climax of the shadow dub there was a few moments that made me kinda get how this was done. During Black Doom's big mental breakdown, there's a couple points where Sonic and his friends just interject, and they only give the cast like a couple of words before the game cuts back.
So in the context of the dub, Eggman, Sonic and Knuckles are basically just interjecting into this private conversation between Shadow and Black Doom. And I think that Eggman repeating "The dust!" and Knuckles saying "Iiiii'm Knuckles! F you f you f you!" are so out of pocket that it becomes funny, but you can also tell that the scene is just giving the voices nothing to work with. If I was playing Knuckles in that scene, I don't know what else I could have even said.
I love joe Pera so much, and I clocked it immediately and was overjoyed for the whole dub.

Utada Hikaru (singer of Simple and Clean, Sanctuary, Don't Think Twice, and Face My Fears) is the person who wrote Hikari originally before Kingdom Hearts. It was for her own album. Disney wanted her to make a song for the game, so she decided to make Simple and Clean of a similar yet different melody (the beginnings being different).
Sanctuary is also an English version based off her original Japanese song "Passion". And Don't Think Twice is her song in her Hatsukoi album called "Chikai (Oath)". She also was featured in a song for the Chainsaw Man movie.
