You can see that he was a bit trained already, because he knew how to step up, and he is used to people. He is very sweet and friendly, cute and adorable.

Unfortunately, this cute tameness doesn't last for very long. Both of my Greys are now around 2 years old and they have changed a lot. Both are still very friendly towards me, but nowhere near as trusting or cuddly as they were as babies. The male is now going through his difficult teenage phase, the female has come out of it already and has become much calmer. I expect them to still go through other changes until their behavior becomes really stable. If I had my choice again, I would probably pick a middle aged, tame adult bird from a bird rescue place. Most likely, the parrot will outlive me anyhow, and I would have an opportunity to provide a nice life for a 'lost creature'.

The mom and son are both very cool. You can see that the mom isn't totally into the bird but she's supporting her son, that's a great mom. The boy seems like he will do great with his bird and is willing to listen and learn. There's a lot of information to learn and it will take a little while but he seems like he will grasp it rather easily. There's no substitute for experience. Great video, very informative. 👍 🦜

I put cardboard on the bottom of my greys cage with newspaper on top of it this allows my bird to walk around the bottom of the cage picking up dropped seed or fruit as in the wild they forage on the ground, also changing the newspaper daily is easier than scraping poo off the bars ,he does have a habit of chewing the cardboard rather than his toys but I dont mind that it keeps him occupied when home alone.

When people who have no experience or history especially African greys and these types of birds makes me so nervous because they require care patience dedication time and attention to a whole new level please consider and educate yourself about them before you take on this life long commitment ❤so many have to be re homed and it’s extremely stressful and traumatic to the animals 😢

Hi, I love your channel and have baby greys myself. I think that this was not the right way to harness train at all. That was just a traumatic experience it will remember. That should have been done slowly with a treat. Not sure why you would grab its beak to say no to it. WRONG. You ignore the biting. Babies will bite skin and objects to see how hard they are and learn after that. Not sure why you are making up your own training rules.

Thank you for an enjoyable video! I've had Baby African Greys before, I strongly think this one might be a female for the reasons and comparison signs listed below:
Female - Overall Lighter Feathers / Male: Overall Darker Feathers
Female- Smaller Beak / Male: over smaller beak
Female- Smaller white area around the eye - Male larger white area
Female- Overall Bird Size you will notice in time smaller / Males overall bulkier n bigger in size
Female- Tail feathers red not so rich bright / Males very red rich bright deep color sticks out more
Behavioral issues- Females or at least in my experience tend to like men more (Humans) as males seem to like or attach more to females (Humans). I discovered my female bird gets super jealous and acts out with noises and some small biting at only 8-10 months old if my wife talks to me or distracts me while holding her. My wife of course treats her well but women eh? Never does it happen when she's not home. LOL
    All the best!

I'm thinking of getting a macaw egg and raising it by hand does your book have all the info I would need to know about raising a bird from hatching to free flight

    • @CarolinvonPetzholdt
      @CarolinvonPetzholdt  3 года назад +1

      Not from hatching.
I can only write what I know about.
I have never hatch a egg before.
But my book starts with baby birds.
So you need to figure out the hatching part and then get my book about the raising and free flying part :)
