The book is incredible too! It will be my only close-up look at the auction items. I don’t know how Mary preserved everything in such impeccable condition, but she is to be commended for allowing his fans around the world to see the items before they disappear into collectors’ hands. We still love you, Freddie. ❤

These items belong in a museum so that everyone can enjoy and admire them. If I was wealthy I would buy the whole lot and donate it to a museum.

This is what I thought when I saw the items, it was like a museum and if it stayed that way everybody can see them always but they are being broken up, I get so fans can own items but should be seen by everyone

Why do they touch everything? His comb even fall down. Please have a bit more respect for him. Beside that, Cartier rings, faberge items and Tiffany silver stuff are things you don’t touch anyway … And it’s such a disrespect to wear the crown … he’s the only one who’s allowed to wear it and not a random guy.

to be fair to the presenter you would of hoped in pre production meetings they would of been told what they could or couldn't do I would of hoped . They will of been handled by many since his passing as well as Mary and Peter . Chances of Freddies finger print being on the silver is VERY slim your buying the providence of the ideas . I'm already thinking what money I can move about to look at bidding on some items

The items those clods kept groping at ended up selling for around 3 million pounds combined. I'm surprised Sotheby's let these things go out on the television circuit 😮

I would love to see the results from the auction .Most of the items are actually priceless to his fans .Like the lady being interviewed you couldn’t even estimate an amount these items will bring .I wish I could bid on that crown.I’d be buried wearing it ! Wrapped in the cape of course!

I found it frustrating she didn't say or know the estimated prices as they must of valued them prior to TV but of course its a rough guide . Things like a t shirt or trainers ( I'd buy the trainers certainly ) should be close but the crown could actually go into many more thousands over the guide

    • @HundXanthippe

I think she acts in Freddie Mercury's sense, who didn't want a museum. Brian May and Roger Taylor, who have been going on for decades at his expense instead of arranging and explaining the Queen's estate (unreleased songs, lyrics, sheet music, etc.), are getting everything out financially that is still possible. They will most likely, on these points, leave music historians with a lot of work or unanswered questions.

Freddie specifically asked not to be put in a museum, that's why

  • @CatsandJP

Why Mary Austin would want to sell of Freddie’s possessions is beyond comprehension…she should donate it to a museum instead of the 2 foundations she wants the money to go to….it’s a crime…he was an icon…not a hoarder as some claim….he was astute when it came to art.

To be fair she’s lived in Garden Lodge unchanged since Freddie died & shown no interest before in changing it, but now wants to “get her affairs in order” so we don’t know what may be happening with her privately but probably wants to deal with this now rather than pass responsibility to her sons.
Freddie apparently said he did not wish his possessions to be in a museum but it’s a shame to see it’s split up

If Freddie didn't want his personal effects in a museum then honor his wishes, but putting a price on anything Freddie? He's priceless.
I do hope that whoever buys at Sotheby's takes very good care of each and every item and gives them all due respect. Miss you Freddie 👑

It makes me sad to see that all his stuff might go to some private collectors forever and never be seen by the public again. I would have liked Brian and Roger to at least take all the Queen-related stuff and make a museum out of it.

@@MrDexterCain Freddie always said that he didn't want a museum. He said his legacy would be the Queen music.
And the Queen related stuff is owned by Mary who has been taking care of his stuff. Because for Freddie it was just stuff as you've said it.

Im wondering if Mary even had the right to sell some of this kinda stuff shes sold as one would think items like thr cape and crown were " copywright " of their original owner/designer, so im wondering " legally " does Mary or did Mary have the right to " flog " this kinda stuff? Diana Mosley designed the gorgeous crown and cape, Freddie wore during some shows on the 1986 " Magic Tour ". Just a thought! 🤔

People give Mary a hard time. However, she has always had Freddie's best interests at heart and he clearly trusted her more than anyone in his life, as only she knows where his ashes are. She stuck by him before Queen where wealthy and famous, before Queen had even formed as a band. From the few interview's I have seen she seemed incredibly loyal and respectful to Freddie and his legacy. Like with John Deacon, she should be left to live her life in peace.

Totally agree with the comments.. freddie was loved by mary for so many years a friend a partner a wife in every sense of the word.. she carried all these items through the past 30 years and now she is giving back to the people that would love to treasure these treasures for the next 30 years plus.. she wants to live her life and share freddie with the rest of the world through his personal items. This is such a selfless act.
