    In the past, we have explored tales of strange and bizarre creatures. But whilst often enigmatic in nature, few have been quite as malevolent and haunting as the entity we will encounter this week. An African legend in possession of supernatural capabilities, which it utilises to carry out a truly evil agenda. Join us, as we examine the Tokoloshe.

    I’m really glad how you guys didn’t gloss over how often this “demon” is blamed for domestic violence, rape, and murder. And how you pointed out CO poisoning as a possibility for why beds need to be raised. CO is heavier than oxygen so people on the floor are extra vulnerable.

    Thanks for covering the Tokoloshe. I'm South African so I've been accustomed to seeing beds on bricks or paint tins, although that was mostly in my youth. I think it is less likely to happen in urban areas now.
    The first time I heard about the Tokoloshe was when I was about 10 years old. We lived on a farm and one of our workers claimed he had been walking through the veld the previous night when a Tokoloshe chased him. He ran as fast as he could and the Tokoloshe got hold of his jacket. Somehow he wriggled out of it and so got away from the Tokoloshe.
    For superstitious Africans the Tokoloshe is very real.

    I think the Tokoloshe's inability to climb up a bed lifted off the ground is meant to stem from them being dead things, bound to the ground. Sure they can get inside a house but leaving the floor, the bottom, is difficult for them. Though this is also discredited that it can then climb a person and sit on their shoulders quiet high off the ground.

    • @economicgamingyt1796
      @economicgamingyt1796 Год назад +2

      So is the top floor of the apartment considered the ground still?

    • @NineWorldsFromDrew
      @NineWorldsFromDrew Год назад +3

      Perhaps they do need the vantage point of getting higher up, but they can only do so on the shoulders of a person that they’ve enthralled? When they don’t have that attachment to a living person, I guess staying off the ground might cause them sickness or a depletion of energy? Assuming one were an investigator, or an Isangoma, Amagqirha, Ngaka or Selaoli, or another local wise person, one might experiment with trying to both trap the Tokoloshe, and lift it off the ground, to see if that renders it too weak to do anything. I dare say this has probably been tried many times, though, if we’re to assume there’s any truth to this folklore.

    South African here. Understandably, a lot of major points were left out of this video due to their graphic nature. I think the tokkelossie is seen of as more than just a demon. Often “he” is portrayed as a short, hairy goblin-type creature and even the mention of his name can mean disaster to those who believe (many are very superstitious). We were told as kids growing up that we needed to keep our feet covered, not hanging off the bed at night because if not the tokkelossie would come and bite our toes off. He also has a reputation of being particularly… adventurous with women. Lots of connections to witchcraft as the video mentioned.
    On a side note, very sad to say but whenever there’s mention of witches abducting people you can assume they met an untimely end. Paganism isn’t uncommon in SA and those practicing have been known to capitalize on their victims in unspeakable ways. It’s especially a problem for albinos, unfortunately.

And another where the next episode or two after this are already uploaded. Who knows how the bedtime stories channel operates in other universes?

    I have no African heritage and i've never been there but those creatures exist, although the ones i've seen aren't furry, just red skinned, some tiny (impish), some adult human sized. There is a reason why it's best to raise your mattress off the floor, the spiritual vibrations of the lower energies can manifest from the lower part of the house/building etc. We can't usually see it but for eg if you could, you might see spirits looking as though they are halfway into the floor that is because darker beings hide in dark places which is commonly underneath such as cellars, tunnels etc. Bizarre i know but quite literally lower energy. Because of their concentration on interfering in the physical world (maybe earthbound or negatively attached) their dimension is closer to ours than higher dimensions, but denser and heavier in energy. That's why you will usually see them manifest on floors. They will try to get to people through base drives, lust, anger etc. Rise above it, as the saying goes, it's true.☀️

She was at school and was walking along a corridoor that was all windows on one side and saw a small hairy thing on two legs walking near the trees keeping pace with her. She shrugged it off as imagination until next day the school cook screamed for everyone to get inside because there was a tokalosh outside.

    I think that the Tokoloshe can't climb because it can't lose contact with the ground. Since it was pulled out of the ground as a corpse and turned into the Tokoloshe, it is essentially part of the Earth and must remain in contact in order to have life energy.
    Don't ask me how it can step onto floors inside houses and not lose contact with the ground. I'm tired, and haven't had coffee, and so I can't get into that.

    In the early 2000s people used to tie fishing line to a black wig and put it in bush or behind a wall and wait for people walk by to scream tokoloshe while pulling the wig towards the frightened individual.
    I always thought it was a harmless prank, I never knew how dark the story was
