It works with the Apple travel kit in a lighter weight package plus the ability to charge 2 devices at once. And has the lab safety ratings. That's why use it. Efficiency isn't so important when traveling. I haven't found a better travel adapter yet.
Yeah, there are many options out there, the great thing is you get to choose what works best for you. Good to hear someone is getting some good use out of these apple adapters.
The plug adapter allows use of an extension cord adapter.

I'm from mexico and I searched videos in spanish to decide to buy this adapter, but everyone only talks about what we can see in the box of the chargers, like "this is a 35w charger and supports fast charge" and we already know that, we don't want that information, this is very useful and interesting, one more time, thank you!

It's on the market because the fixed folding type A style can only be sold in certain countries, whereas this one can be sold in many countries by changing the plug.
Yes, that's one of the positives for this adapter in the video. It isn't BAD as a design or idea and that feature is useful. It is not good performance wise though which is why I say no on this one.

Thanks for your informative review! A2676 uses a unique ACF circuit which is rare in the 35W category. It does gain an edge over A2571 in terms of efficiency and performs better in temperature rise. But I didn't expect the output quality would be that poor.

I like the new more comprehensive presentation format. It may be a little more tedious to watch for those of us familiar with the channel and how to interpret the various metrics, but is far more usefully presented for those stumbling across it via search (which would be more common for specific products vs us subscribers).
Aside, I'm really surprised that someone hasn't produced a low cost generic digital power supply trigger interface that uses a USBC supply [think a board with a simple display/interface for outputting specific voltage/current to a typical 2.5mm barrel jack or 4mm binding posts]. It would be awesome for us hobbyists. If you stumble across anything of the sort, I'm sure we'd love to see it put through it's paces.

Thanks! Yeah, I have a goal of keeping the technical bits but also trying to make the videos a little more accessible. I expect the explainer parts will get skipped by the regulars, which is cool. In terms of a hobby tool, you can certainly put something together fairly easily, A PD 20V trigger cable, then a DC-DC converter (buck-boost) with barrel jack in and terminals out. I show it in this video ruclips.net/video/iiUNDbo5zq0/видео.html I know its two pieces but yeah I understand it would be nice to have it all on one board, USB C in, anything out or even two or three outputs. It would be useful.

thanks for the informative video! Out of the power adapters that you've tested, are there any that you'd recommend that have the duckhead plug and 2 USB C ports? or is the duckhead plug strictly an apple thing.
I've never heard that called duck head. Yeah, that's pretty strongly apple's thing. Some adapters use industry standard cords (IEC of some type) and a lot are using proprietary concoctions that clip on to the adapter. Maybe once they get everyone on USB C they can attack the other end, ha.

In one thing the apple adapters never failed for me is how silent they are. I am super sensitive to hum/buzz and other noise of power adapters especially when they are not under load.
Yeah, at least on the older generation, the adapters were made with a lot of adhesives to keep components from vibrating. Not making coil whine was an added benefit. I am curious how these cheaper made adapters will hold up.
In case you don't know, Apple chargers with removable connector, don't have a ground connection, but apple's power extension cable has a ground. The metal pin that holds the connector to place, is also a ground. All MacBooks and iPads have a different sense when connected with a not grounded charger but when using the extension, this sense disappears. So it seems that there is current on the chassis of MacBooks and iPads. Can this grounded or not grounded version affect the charger's performance , and how ? Thanks.
Yeah, I totally meant to get into that in the video and completely forgot! This charger goes have a 1,000 ohm resistor between earth and the USB output ground. So, if using the grounded cable you will 'redirect' the AC leakage current through that path as opposed to into the laptop casing. It isn't for fault conditions and the value is small enough to not trip GFCI circuits. It won't change charging characteristics. For metal cased products lacking earth it can make them feel strange since they will be carrying a charge. Power supplies leak a small amount of AC to the DC side (the transformer and a capacitor are responsible for this). The earthing of the output terminal prevents this leakage from making it to the device plugged in. This charge buildup doesn't always happen either but this is a way to prevent it. For an extra $19. This is another test I haven't gotten into with these power adapters yet.
The only 65w charger i will buy now is the Anker GanPrime Powercore 65w, because all 65w chargers are bad, but this one in particular is also a mid size powerbank so I can get by it.
So i'm only buying select 100w'ers now because they're the only ones with power factor in the 0.9's.
Yeah, the 100W adapters have become my go to for basically everything. I'd like a compact ~60 watt adapter with better power quality, doesn't have to be PF 0.9+ but just better than what everyone else has, ha.

what do you think about USB A/C ports that come with surge protectors and power strips? They seem be a lot more affordable and convenient than these stand alone power adapters. Are they any safe to use?
Safety is always a concern with those. I have a few of them to check out now. There are a lot of cheap ones that I know are not well made but there are also some from the bigger brands so I will be checking them out in the coming months.
Is there any chance you could test some other manufactures (ie Dell, HP, Lenovo etc) USB-C power adapters that come with a laptop? It'd be interestiong to see how they fair against Apple, Anker etc etc
I looked at a 45W HP USB C adapter, it was really bad power performance wise. I have tested a lot of the barrel adapter laptop bricks but yeah I need to get some more USB C based ones.
Went to purchase a 65w to support the channel and I received notice that delivery to my area is not possible… I live in Los Angeles!
Yeah, I've heard that a few times on various products. You have to like title 20 California Energy Commission (CEC) laws. Has to have it or not allowed for sale in California. I can't find where they've updated it since 2015 for power supplies though.

Great videos I have quick question I purchased music streamer powered by usb-C 5v @ 2amp. I looking for better power brick offer lower noise switching ps I was considering Linear power supply but very expensive what are your recommendation for my needs , I was considering the iFI low noise power brick for DAC here in Canada is $109.00 plus hst
That's a good question. I started adding output voltage ripple to the measurements more recently. The Belkin Boost Up Charge USB-C PD Wall Charger 20W has very low voltage ripple on the output though. So, not a bad choice for the application. It isn't the most efficient thing out there but at 10 watts it's pretty good.
hey bro im thinking to but the ugreen acecube 30w GaN charger it cost 20 on amazon but its 14 with a coupon, have you tried it? there is another, the ugreen nexode mini 30w GaN that its more expensive cause it has the thermalguard feature that improves heat dissipation and i think that one competes with the anker nano3 511 cause they cost about the same($25), so do you think that matters ? or with the acecube ill be just fine?
The only UGREEN charger I currently recommend is the 20W mini one. I do have some of the others to check out but haven't had a chance yet. I am sure there will be a review on some of these and it looks like I have more research to do.

Different things. The PFC is to improve the other stats related to AC power, there is a point this starts to effect the efficiency though. Efficiency, often, is only looked at as the real power in versus out of the device itself. In AC it relies on frequency and phase interactions so has complex components. I plan to make a video on when and why PFC starts to make a difference, also what it is. Lots of videos, ha.

Hey, great videos. I presumed this would be the best charger but clearly not! I'm after a dual USB C charger for iPhone and Apple watch, so I guess around 40w, but I need UK version. Ugreen have a neat folding one, and I know Anker is a pretty solid brand. But just wondering what brands you feel are safe in this category (as I couldn't see recommendations in the description). Don't want to get something that will burn my house down!
So, yeah, one thing Apple does do is pretty intense safety validation. Anker has become pretty solid in this category for power adapters as well. The UGREEN stuff is hit or miss on safety listings so I tend to shy away from them for that. Apple is certainly conservative and I think falls behind in performance because of this. In reality if you aren't using a ton of watts, the slim line apple dual 35 watt adapter is an acceptable option. Although, probably not so slim with the UK plug on the end. I don't know if they even sell that style. The big dual 35W has the removable plug thing so yeah. Multi-plug compatibility.

There are a ton of options out there. The best in terms of compatibility are probably apples chargers. The best in terms of efficiency and claiming compatibility with both, in my opinion, is the Satechi 165W charger.
And while the 35w dual is so inefficient, is the 70w power supply so much better when I only use it to charge my macbook air 15", my old iPad and my Google Pixel?
That's a good question, I have to get it in to test it out. As part of that process I do look at light load efficiency. I haven't tested the 70W one yet though.

I really wish there were some decent low wattage adapters with a lot of ports just to power a bunch of low-wattage devices. I've been migrating all my old game consoles to 9v,12v, and 15v USB-C but most of them use less than 10 watts and I don't intend to use them at the same time. It feels like my only options are overkill.
There are a few options out there. I have a few (not so nice) products in terms of safety and quality that do have the low power port distribution but haven't done videos on any of those yet. I need to get those onto the bench.

I'm kind of surprised there aren't USB-C power splitters that are basically just DC/DC power supplies that negotiate a higher voltage from the main charger and step down for it's children.

I have looked at one (the AD65G), it was okay performance wise, lacked any safety listing though. It didn't get a video, I have about 20 that didn't get a video (among them, ZMI, lower wattage Hyphen-X, the Xiaomi, amoner, etc.). I could do a video of the ones that didn't make it into a video.
Does the Baseus disconnect and reconnect power to all plugged in devices when plugging a new device in? I believe Apple and Belkin don't have this behaviour.
The baseus does. The apple will depending on what is plugged in. It is a bit smarter.
Well, one came with my M2 McBook Air, but it is convenient and offers optional earth. As long as it does no harm to charging, I’ll be ok with it. Probably wouldn’t buy one separately however.

Brand doesen't always equal quality, there can be some misses and this looks like a big one at that. I think that this lack of quality is also the price of not really being on the market known for your chargers. If someone falls for it they make a quick buck, if they don't it's whatever since it's cheaply made.

I purchased Topping DX3 Pro Plus I decide to upgrade power wart to low noise version. Decide on iFi Audio Power 15v version 1. Great price at $C60.00 from Amazon when adapter arrived check the voltage an polarity is fine. For some reason wont turn on does any one have same issue option upgrade PS .

You probably don't need a ton of power for that system so really any power bank with 60W PD ability or higher is not a bad choice. Obviously check reviews mostly looking for things like reliability. Some smaller rated power banks will work too.

The 35w thin adapter is about the same as the normal 30 watt adapter. They’ll both charge the phone at the same rate.

Hi, thanks for the content. I have a point: You showed the poor quality of the charger AC side. But an AC/DC converter can have a high THD on the AC port to maintain a better level of ripple on the DC port. For me, it is more important to have a low ripple level than a low THD. It's also better for the equipment. Most electrical networks don't care how bad a 35W load is, it's too small. Do you have any videos measuring the ripple level on an oscilloscope for these chargers? I'm very curious to know.
Yeah, I have done a little of the DC side quality for videos. For the most part they've tested surprisingly good on the output for peak to peak ripple. I plan to add more of that in future videos. True on the 35W size of things and even much larger. I have a chart of when it starts to cost you money, but yeah, low interest. I've been slowly removing references to the AC metrics, next video I will drop the specifics from the charts and see how it goes. I was thinking ripple (pk-pk mv), dc voltage, efficiency, watts in, percent of load, PQS for all the other metrics, maybe something else? No video is perfect and what I have here is FAR from that for sure. Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks for the vids, I picked up the 96W Apple USB C brick. Bit of a shame it didn't do PFC at lower wattages but the caps used are quality. I couldn't in good conscience buy any alternatives that use CapXon or other crappy tier 2 brand caps. I'll let the power companies deal with the apparent power ahahah thankfully it doesn't really affect the end consumer (we don't pay for apparent power for residential use here in Australia).
Yeah, this apple adapter is bad enough that it actually costs more to operate in real power since it's moving so much current around! True, the change is minimal, and for the most part electricity is still pretty cheap. In terms of comparing it even with it's non-identical twin though this thing is worse. The 96W adapter is not a bad adapter, it is built better and for a laptop, yeah it makes sense.
What a disappointing result. As an Apple user I've long known I'm paying a premium for the Apple name but I also thought I was at least getting a decent quality product. Your channel has been an eye opener. Thanks for what you do.
Yeah, I don't like saying bad things about devices either. This one was too far gone though... I did expect at least equal performance or better. I still think the M1/M2 chips are doing great things though. Power consumption and optimization on the device side is great, now it would great if that made it over to the power supply division.

haha, well they are nearly equivalent in terms of features (this one has the removable plug, the other is only folding). The other adapter performance wise is marginally better. Really they're both kind of bad. The slim version is measurable better in terms of power performance. That's really the only difference.

They make a normal style and the flat style with the plugs on the side (which is somewhat better performance wise).
When you say it's bad, it is all around power efficiency? I don't really care about efficiency as long as it is reliable and safe when I use it for traveling.
Yeah, I mean the non-flat version of this charger has issues. It is inefficient which means it gets hotter, it isn't made as well as previous apple products that have been torn down, so longevity becomes a concern, it's a cheap as chips power adapter with bad power negotiation and poor efficiency that costs more than twice as much as the competition and is worse than it's own rival power adapter. It should be safe at least.

There are a lot of fakes, buy from apple is one way.
It's a shame that Apple only produces one GaN charger, the Apple USB-C 140W GaN. Apple is very conservative in this regard. Other Apple chargers still use the old silicon technology.
Silicon technology is still good, out of date yes, but still good, even in that 140W adapter Apple didn't make the best use of the GaN technology. A lot of designers are still hesitant because, technically, wide bandgap semiconductor lack certain avalanche ratings (so under extreme conditions they might break, where as a silicon MOSFET is a little more stable and well characterized). When implemented correctly devices all have current sense, 5 other protection circuits and none operate anywhere near the edge so should never hit a run away condition, also temperature capability is higher with GaN and SiC technologies but on resistance does still rise with temperature so it is possible for bad things to happen but at that point I'd expect the silicon mosfet to go just as quickly. The IGBT still reigns in the motor drive market mostly because of its tolerance of abuse conditions and cost (I^2*R versus V*I also). It all comes down to choices, higher capacitances and certain topologies will need more power to operate but GaN requires much more care and time in design. Apple has done things one way for a long time, why change? I don't have any insight into apples process, but there must be a reason they are choosing to do things the way they do. The use of GaN is common today, opinion, not so much because of the GaN but because of the integration of driver, controls, etc. in one chip. Smaller bill of materials, simpler construction, cheaper. Silicon mostly didn't achieve that level of integration.
@@AllThingsOnePlace I needed a compact USB-C adapter for charging the iPhone 13 Pro Max and at the same time a powerful USB-C adapter with support for Power Delivery-PD fast charging. Even when I had Xs Max, I bought an Xtorm USB-C 65W GaN adapter, when I upgraded from iPhone Xs Max to 13 Pro Max, this USB-C 65W GaN adapter can still charge iPhone at full speed. Yes, it is true that I also have an Apple USB-C 20W adapter. I mostly use the Xtorm USB-C 65W GaN adapter. This adapter will always be usable, even if I buy, for example, a 15 Pro Max in the future, the iPhone will charge at full speed, because it will have enough power to work. It makes no sense to buy an Apple USB-C 140W GaN charger for charging, as the iPhone is far from being able to use the huge potential of the Apple USB-C 140W GaN adapter. Maybe one day in the future the iPhone will have such fast charging that it will make sense to buy a 140W GaN charger.
Does 35w adapter hurt iphone 14 battery health??

I use 10 watt chargers on my phones iPhone XS Max is at 97% health after 5 years , I gave it to my sister and gave her my 10 watt charger. When I charge it I charge it to 100 % not 80% like those nick and pick fools . My iPhone 13 is at 99% battery health I switched back to a 10 watt charger because it dropped 1% in 3 months , since I had the 10 watt it stayed at 99% since 2021 .
@@boomboombaby9140 Yeah, I use 18 watt charging with an also 5 year old iPhone, still into the 90's percentile battery health, apple regulates charging correctly and does a good job maintaining long battery life. They may not report it accurately though. In reality at 5 years old, your battery is at ~90% and apple is misreporting the health too high, unless you never use the device and all that time is all standby, you charge once a week kind of thing, which at that point why have a phone... Anyway, yeah, batteries degrade, they will not last forever. There is usually a steep decline into not charging once they really start to go bad.

The other dual apple 35 was better. There are a few other two port options that are a lot less expensive. I just looked at the mcdodo 40w two port today as a short. It would be good for watch and phone charging.

@@mohamdy8950 mmm, I haven't looked at that specific one. Anything I have seen from Belkin has been of pretty high quality though so I can't say you'd be doing something wrong. It won't have the best power performance, this is inherent because it is a 65W adapter but that is okay. Make sure the laptop works with USB C Power Delivery Protocol for charging and operating.
I hate the geometry of their chargers too, seems like it’s made to be more IMPRACTICAL rather than practical.
It isn't the worst design... Anker and the donut. OR all the tube shaped adapters (mostly 65W) with the USB coming out the end.

I know, there may be expectation which made me a little more negative on this one. The expectation that apple tries harder but that isn't true. Apple tries equally as much as everyone else and the result in this case was a lower end product with a lot of apple tax.
Actually. All non apple adapters could charge iPhone 14 at 20w. Only the 20w apple adaptor can charge at 20w. Maybe that’s why. Testing with your equipment is one thing. Actually charger is another thing. Pls test the charge wattage when charging iPhone 14.

I’m so lucky i didn’t buy this as i was looking for a dual/multiple Type C adapter to charge my iPhone, iPad & Watch at the same time. The reason i didn’t go for this Adapter because of the price is too expensive for Dual 35W Adapter. I can get a better W with more slots at affordable price.

I think it is a mismatch in design, mostly around capacitor choice. Too much is a bad thing, too little is a bad thing. I think they went with a cheaper capacitor so it looks like they oversized by a lot.

Yeah, this versus a gas-station $1 job, this all day long. This does check the minimum boxes of a product, it is just not a good performance adapter... the one thing it is made to do it's bad at.

hahaha, I guess there was a reason they didn't make much of an announcement of this one. It is almost an afterthought adapter. It should be good but it isn't. I think this product exists for one reason (business): $60 for 35W oh its only $39 for the 30W I'll buy that one...
